  1. We sent a dog off to a new home on Tuesday. It left hernia free and has apparently arrived with 3, one the size of an orange and a half and nearly hanging on the ground . Is this remotely possible? I didn't think it was possible and am waiting for my vet to speak to their vet BUT someone I trust advises that the vet has confirmed that there are 3 hernias.
  2. What the hell???? Quick come and take my dogs - they play with my cats all the time and sometimes the cats like it and sometimes they don't. Seriously - this is going over the top and is completely beyond a joke.
  3. Hey is Shmoo going???? I keep forgetting it is in Sydney and heaps of my Sydney friends will be there. So excited!!!
  4. That is so sad. And that is something that sets you & others apart Jacky. Sadly I've seen too many cases of breeders not wanting to take their dogs back. I'll be honest, I don't think it is a coincidence that the majority of registered dogs I have come through have breeders who don't care about (ETA by this I mean that they don't put as much thought into homes as they should either) - one of them even told me to "F&^% off". I expect no more from a registered breeder than what I provide as a rescuer. I'm here for help & assistance with a dog I've rehomed. If the new home can't keep it I will find it a place in foster care, re-assess it and rehome it. ETA - I have 4 registered dogs and all of them come from breeders who will take their dogs back. My daughter also has a registered dog whose breeder will take him back. I wouldn't buy from a breeder who wouldn't take the dog back.
  5. Woohoo Sniper was Challenge Dog. I saw him as he got into the trailer yesterday and he looked fabulous.
  6. Wow huge result in the Fauves!!!! I've not seen this pup yet but he is a repeat mating of Marie's litter and he beat his parents, Marie's siblings AND the newest import . I'm thinking I need to see this pup
  7. Dexter loves him  My favourite is the pic of him right up near Dexter's face. The ones of him playing with Georgie are great too.
  8. And yet they will raid someone's home and remove their dogs simply because they are debarked - the whole time the vet is examining them he confirms that they are in excellent condition. RSPCA are a joke.
  9. Not leave them in the front yard even when supervised [we're not sure whether or not they were fully contained (were her dogs totally enclosed?) - as the reporting differs] because even when they're supervised, "dogs will be dogs" and the smaller dog will be the victim. I'm with others - why the hell shouldn't MY dogs be in MY yard regardless. If Senator Kroger's dogs were in her yard, fence or not, and the neighbour's dog (which lets face it, was off-lead AND off its property) entered the yard it did so at its owner's risk. The owners of the small dog are at fault because their dog was off their property and out of their care when it walked into someone else's yard. Regardless of the size of your dog if it is off your property, off lead, and is injured it is YOUR fault. I just don't see how you can't see that side. If my dogs are in my front yard and I have insufficient control of them and they leave my yard to attack another dog then I am at fault - no questions asked. I think you're so entrenched in being right you're not actually looking at this remotely logically. You didn't answer my earlier question but do you really think someone's dogs are to blame if they attack another dog that enters their yard? If you don't then Senator Kroger has done nothing wrong.
  10. Sadly I can't go. I have my brother's 40th on that weekend in Sydney. A real shame as I would have loved to enter - Tallangatta is a gorgeous town.
  11. That is so completely true, particularly the highlighted part. Mum to Emma - I'd love to know what part of this you disagree with? Why do you think the senator is to blame for her dogs attacking a dog that came into their yard? If she was walking down the street with her dogs off lead I could see why you would blame her but I don't understand your feelings at all given what has been reported.
  12. A fellow DOLer's daughter was savaged by a Shih Tzu at 4 years of age - it tore through her lip and left it gaping plus damage to her chin. Five years later the scars are still visible. My dogs can easily be unsupervised in my front yard because it is fully fenced. A dog digging into my front yard and greeting my dogs is no different to one doing it in my backyard. I think that Mum to Emma is making an assumption that the Senator's dogs were in an unfenced frontyard without any evidence to that effect.
  13. Thanks for posting it Arawyn - it was a good read! Agree completely. I was reading it and thinking how different it was to Australia in terms of bucks etc and then I read this part and smiled
  14. Purely on the question of nature -v- nurture I used to believe that nurture played a 50/50 role but I know believe that it plays a much smaller role. Through the rescue we've raised a number of litters that have been whelped in care. The mothers have all had spectacular temperaments and the pups have been raised in my home, indoors until old enough to be outdoors. They have had loads of handling, I've followed the rule of 7 etc etc etc. We have had one litter where I've personally pts 2 pups at 7 months of age with severe dog aggression and strong prey drive towards children. I know that one other has had dog to dog issues that are managed and another that has had loads of training but still has issues and will never play happily with dogs she didn't grow up with (behaviouralist assessment). Three others that I see regularly have beautiful natures and no temperament issues whatsoever. I can never swear to it of course but I'm sure that Dad must have had temperament issues. Of the four pups that went on to have temperament problems, in hindsight, all of them were always the most timid despite lots of socialisation and handling.
  15. Oh she was beautiful. So sad to hear the news.
  16. Yeah I saw that. I know that her breeder is aware of her and I believe other PBGV people are referring over to the rescue group. She sounds like a character
  17. Morsha68 on here has Japanese Spitz. She has no puppies atm but may be able to give you some valuable information.
  18. Sorry Ceilidh . Thanks for that - will empty my PM box. I will take some pics of him when I'm up there later today.
  19. How did you get started in showing? Thanks to Rebanne who pointed the breed out to me at a local show I fell in love with Fauves. Neil was very open to a newbie showing one of the pups and the rest is history. What was your first dog/breed? Basset Fauve De Bretagne. My first was Marie and I can't imagine loving a Fauve more than I love her. She's my girl. What is your favourite memory? (Doesn't need to be a win but just a significant moment, maybe the moment you knew you were hooked?) The first time we won a class in group was great. Another great moment was when the Judge corrected the steward on the name of our breed and after the show told me how close we came to getting Runner-Up in Group and how lovely my dog was - a huge thing from someone who has seen them overseas! Wodonga Show in 2008 when there were about 6 Fauves entered at one time. It was a great day with loads of showies watching on the edge of the ring as we all ran around - makes me smile just thinking about it! Who do you thank from your early days? First one of course is Neil who let me purchase my first bitch completely in my own name. There have been a number of DOLers who have been really helpful - Rebanne for pointing them out, Tibbiemax & Morsha for coming to shows with me, SBT123 for helpful tips over the years including picking Daphne out of the litter AND choosing her name, Fifi for always been excited about every little thing that I do, Alicia from Taejaan for answering all my stupid questions every week and just for being my friend and my husband for letting me do this . I'm sure I've forgotten heaps of people who have been a huge part in me enjoying the beginning of my showing experience and I apologise if you are one of them!! So many DOLers have contributed to my enjoyment as well as lots of local showies who have nothing to do with DOL. Who really helps/helped you out and you wouldn't be where you are without them? See above!
  20. I would love a solution to this as Daphne gets carsick on the smallest of journeys. Because she gets carsick she now hates the car. She has spent loads of her life travelling and is either crated on a backseat, in the rear of a station-wagon or in a harness on a backseat.
  21. My preference would be to ultrasound first but if for some reason that was not possible I would put the bitch under to check. How else can you rehome the dog as desexed? God could you imagine the uproar on DOL if someone came on here and put the situation in the reverse? IE I adopted a dog from a rescue group and they said because she had a scar she was probably desexed but she has come into season now. Lordy the knives would be out.
  22. Yes he will learn that some adults where never taught manners. People like that make me sick and I would never excuse their behaviour as "people will be people".
  23. When Grover was so sick his temperature was 41 degrees and it makes them just so sick. Poor old bugger - I hope he gets better.
  24. Just heard that Markus, a Basset Fauve De Bretagne pup from the last litter, was Minor Puppy in Group with his young handler Lachlan! :) Markus is a repeat mating of Jim & Chrissy who are also Marie's parents.
