  1. I can just see him sitting there, sweat pouring down his face, finger quivering, screaming 'NO NO NO PLEASE, SOMEONE ELSE POST NO NO NO' There goes my coffee splurk onto the screen & keyboard !!!! And I imagine Troy in his minds eye is picturing us old crazies full of celebratory alcohol.......dog forbid !!! fifi Well he had to sit next to this crazy full of celebratory alchohol last year . I want you to come Fifi!!!! Please come!!!
  2. I will confess to feeling the same way about the hairspray . I have a breed where very little is done and the most that is done is done by me. My breeder does nothing other than brush them and occasionally strip out their ears. I use a foam shampoo to clean their coat without softening it and brush up the fur on their legs but that really is it with my breed which may be why I feel this way more. what about that other stuff you use on their coats Trisven or have you stopped using it The stuff you were brushing in, like a mousse? I use a mousse that cleans their coat - is that what you mean? It is used as a bath so that the coat doesn't go soft. I was using some gel on their legs but found it made no difference so I just brush it up now.
  3. The vet's surgery has advised today that she is doing well, happy and walking well, eating, drinking & toileting as normal. The vet will be back in the office tomorrow at which point he will make a decision as to the ownership of the dog - he is being pushed from both sides, poor bugger. I have great sympathy for the vet who is being very good but none at all for the evil cow who took the dog.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this - trimming nails is done/should be done by every dog owner and is vastly different to gluing ears into position. I understand now why it is done but have to say I'm still not sure that I think it is different than sticking an extra tooth in Grover's mouth. I will continue to think on it and ask people though.
  5. Will try the chicken wire pegged - that should fix it. Its really interesting that they've completely left one garden bed alone. We have had rain too and I know that they dig more after rain. We've started doing some targetting and stuff with them - will talk with Cosmolo when they're up at the end of the month about the scenting and basic tracking. Have to be honest I have no idea how to do it but I'd love to. They're being used in France for truffles and I can see why
  6. But I don't think that they're digging to dig but to chase stuff in the soil if that makes sense? They haven't dug for at least 2-3 months until 2 weeks ago and now they're on a mission.....
  7. The Fauves go for a minimum of 60 min walk every day. I do some training with them (not a lot but we train). We've redone all the back garden and they hadn't been digging but for the last 2 weeks they've been digging like crazy. I really think that they're chasing something in the soil as they have their noses deep in the soil. They haven't dug like this for months and are digging in 3 garden beds but completely ignoring one other. I've seen a couple of crickets around - would it be something like that hatching in the soil? What the hell, short of keeping them inside a lot or standing out there, can I do? Also - it is very, very easy at the moment to catch them digging - what do I do? I give a verbal correction but what else is appropriate in this situation?
  8. I'm not going to criticise what I don't understand Stitch . For those who do tape - do you tape every pup, half, 1 in 4 etc?
  9. Yeah it was Imy and it was her sister who was putting the eggs under the chicken. Imy is an artist which is how she managed such a great job. I miss Imy heaps and wish she was still a regular DOLer - not sure why she left but she is one I miss.
  10. As someone whose breed doesn't need ear-gluing it is something I find really interesting. I'm NOT trying to shit-stir here - just to understand something I don't understand so please take it in the spirit it is meant - a quest for knowledge. I don't doubt that because it is not an issue for my breed I find it almost akin to cheating. I figure as it is so widely done it isn't but how is it different to other things that are frowned upon like fake testicles, or dental work etc? If the dog has correct ear set won't the ears just go right? Why don't they? And if they don't why is it so important in the standard when it is often only obtained by taping the ear? I don't understand why a standard would call for a style of ear that is often only obtained by taping OR should fewer examples be shown, only those whose ears do it naturally? A personal example - Grover's bite is fine BUT he is missing a tooth which means he can't be shown, particularly under FCI judges. How is taping an ear to make it sit right any different to giving him a false tooth (if that is even possible)?
  11. Do you have friends........?????? But I thought you were on DOL like the rest of us cause you didn't have a life..... ;) :D  Oi bitch!!! I had been reading dog rescue websites for years and had been wanting to rescue a couple of dogs for a long time when I moved to Albury. My OH and I found a lost dog and linked up with the local RSPCA to rehome him desexed etc. The local RSPCA shut down and I joined forces with a local lady who had been working hard for years with enormous passion but not much rescue knowledge. I took what I'd learnt on other places and we worked together to try to change things just a little. Then....... I rescued my first pregnant dog. I needed help and badly!!! I'm not quite sure how but through Google I found Cordelia. She suggested I come here and that was it - I was hooked. Cordelia was a great influence on me in my early days - hard to believe I've been here so long now and that I'm still rescuing. DOL is generally a great friend though there are times when I think a DOLiday wouldn't do me any harm . I've made some great friends here on DOL and discovered showing dogs which I love so much. I hope that later this year I will breed my first litter so thanks to DOL not only have I become a better rescuer but I hope eventually to be both a rescue and breeder member of the MDBA. If you had considered coming to the awards night can I highly recommend it. It was just so much fun last year!
  12. I'm coming! Can't wait. I had such a great time last year and I'm really looking forward to it this year. Hoping that some of my Sydney friends come along who couldn't make it to the Canberra awards.
  13. Erny you're completely right. This poor little dog is at the mercy of the vet deciding who owns her - if he decides in our favour she comes home to live out her days with her devastated foster carer and if he decides in the nutters favour this delightful little older dog will be put to sleep. The person has been begged to send the dog back to us but refuses.
  14. That person is someone from the breed specific rescue - she has been taken in completely by the person who was taking the dog. She knows the vet that was being used and didn't anticipate that the woman would make everything up, particularly the part about the broken leg. The joys of nutters hey? Can't wait until we know that the dog is coming back but we're not going to know for sure until Tuesday.
  15. If we had done that puggy puggy we would have had no chance of retrieving the dog as the payment of money overrides what is on the microchip. Thankfully this woman paid money over the phone to our vet and that money hasn't yet been given to us. Legally this means the dog is still ours. It sadly is not going to be resolved until Tuesday but the breed specific rescue people are trying to help as well.
  16. Our vet rang the other vet first thing yesterday morning to discuss the supposed health issues that the dog had (which initially started as 3 hernias but finished up as 3 hernias, one fractured leg, blindness and deafness ). The vet confirmed that the dog DID not have the hernias or the fractured leg. He advised my vet that the dog had been brought into be put to sleep and our vet insisted that not happen and got on to me. Just pure luck to be honest.
  17. All the things that were described are untrue. The woman is a liar. The dog is at her vet awaiting euthanasia (who has confirmed that the dog is in the condition it was when it left us) and we are involved in a battle as regards ownership so that the poor dog can be returned to her foster carer. We are devastated and will be warning all rescue groups about this person when our dog has been returned to us. She arrived on Wednesday and on Friday was at the vets to be pts.
  18. Woohoo - bit of cheering in your gazebo then Morsha???? What are you doing this weekend? Want to catch up?
  19. Very long story that I will let everyone know about once I've had a chance to speak with the (very good) breed specific rescue involved but the dog is coming back to us.
  20. I spoke with my vet this morning too. She saw the dog on Monday and is adamant that this could not have happened in 24 hours. She also said that what they are describing as a hernia in front of the leg is impossible as there is nothing to herniate. She is ringing the vet this morning to discuss it and we are going to attempt to get the dog back to us. Heartbreaking for us and our foster carer who has spent so much time with this dog as she was a special case.
  21. Not umbilical. The woman is on the phone and has described them as this: One is on her right hand side underneath her back leg, the size of an orange, the other is next to it. Another is on her left hand side in front of her front leg.
  22. One is at the site of her desexing surgery that took place 2-3 weeks ago. I'm waiting to hear where the other 2 are. I'm concerned that the one at the site of her surgery indicates something connected to that surgery but it is hard to say without knowing where the other 2 are.
  23. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever does it? I thought hernias appeared over time but not over 24 hours? Hernias, as I understand them, are holes in muscle which allows other "stuff" to come through (at least that is how I understood McKenzie's umbilical hernia). It first showed about 10 days after she was born. Can them come up that quickly????
