  1. How is he going? This lovely boy was very, very lucky to get to rescue and it all came down to the hard work of Belgrael and Sheilaheel. The people who surrendered him were from Rand if that helps at all. He was surrendered for wandering off the property.
  2. yep will be there on Thursday 1st, there are at least 10 greyhounds entered! Hope they all show up Wow Rebanne - you must be so looking forward to it! I know how much you've missed having competition and I hope that you have lots of greyhounds to run around the ring with. Are you taking some photos?
  3. That is great news. I bet that brought a bloody big smile to your face
  4. And if someone was forcing their human children to live in similar conditions the situation would be just as socially unacceptable. There is such limited information provided here about this matter but some people can still jump to immediate conclusions. To have a considered opinion you need to actually consider facts, and all of them. They are not all presented here by a long stretch. For someone to keep animals for their own reasons when that keeping amounts to cruelty is selfish and wrong, no matter what the emotional attachment to them is. If someone wants animals so badly that they are prepared to compromise those animals' health to the point of them dying there is a major issue at stake, and it's not with the prosecuting authority or with the courts, it's with the owner. But here is the thing. If it was human kids they would be returned to her with all the help under the sun. Because is animals they are removed from her care forever and she has to pay for the privilege of them doing so. :D If the arsepca really cared they would help the woman care for her animals. Agreed. Was there ever a problem with this woman's animals when she lived in her 1.5million property? If the only problem has arisen since she lost everything financially then I would have thought assistance rather than prosecution would have been the best solution. If the animals were always kept in poor condition with the difference now that they all live in a car then I agree with prosecution. The way the story reads, however, is that someone has fallen on tough financial times and tried desperately to hold on to her animals when all else is gone. If that is the truth then the RSPCA should be ashamed.
  5. Hi - just a little bit of confusion here as it was actually John Brunnenmeyer and Andrea Merkle from Albury Dog Rescue who won the award - known as "Andrea&John" on DOL. OMG Sway made a mistake why don't you PM her and I am sure it will be fixed. I think this was when my phone stopped sending texts and I made a quick call. Albury Dog Rescue would have stood out through the quick whispers. Sorry guys, my fault. Its no-one's "fault" as such - just a bit of confusion which was easy with two ADR foster carer's nominated.
  6. Hi - just a little bit of confusion here as it was actually John Brunnenmeyer and Andrea Merkle from Albury Dog Rescue who won the award - known as "Andrea&John" on DOL. Great night and a big contratulations to all the winners. Chloe looked beautiful as did Anna AKA Powerlegs. I was ecstatic for Steph from Shar Pei Rescue - a much deserved win and such a shame she wasn't able to be there wearing her sash. Amazing result for Margaret too who is a lovely lady - to win two years in a row really tells you a lot.
  7. We have nothing but would you like me to see if my Vet knows of anyone?
  8. Well you'd better get rid of the internet because MOST puppy farms sell on-line as much if not more than they do to petshops. Did you read how Petstock do it? They are not in a shopping centre - they are a shop that you would only go to if you were wanting to go to Petstock or buy carpet. They dogs can't leave for their new home that day. The people who are interested in the dog contact us in the same way that they would if they saw the dog on the internet. We screen them in the same way. We do yard checks like normal and the dog is normally adopted 3-4 days after they first see it.
  9. Yeah tell her my stats on rescued pregnant dogs - c-sections for 6/13 (or similar and its Friday night and I'm not going through records :D )
  10. Please be more specific and say that this is why SOME rescue groups don't like SOME breeders. There are enough problems with perceived rescuer -v- breeder ethics without statements like this. As a rescuer (and hopeful one day breeder) I would much prefer that breeders supported rescue than the other way around. If they are attacked in ways such as this then there goes the help. Breeders & rescue should be able to work together very successfully - lets face it there aren't many people out there who love dogs as much as rescuers & breeders do. Again I will disagree with you. We rescue dogs from Wodonga Pound which is in Victoria and a requirement is that all dogs be desexed before rehoming. We have had 2 bitches desexed VERY VERY late in their pregnancies recently and each of them has been quite unwell after this much larger surgery and very down. Years ago I desexed another bitch late in her pregnancy and she took two weeks to be back to her pre-desexing self.
  11. Any new pup I get will be from a registered breeder and probably from a breeder listed on DOL - though it may be one bred by me OR imported and only time will tell on that front. I won't discount falling madly in love with a special senior in rescue and keeping it - I've only had one foster failure in 6 years of rescue and that was dear old Grandma.
  12. My understanding is the potential home stills goes through the same screening process as if they were adopting from the shelter. Completely. It is done very successfully here through Petstock. We place dogs in suitable pens on weekends for the hours that the business is open (the dog/pup is dropped off at opening and picked up at closing) and any enquiries about the dogs are referred to us. We then do the normal screening process we would do for someone who saw the dog on the website. I don't think that it encourages impulse purchasing anymore than petrescue and the like do (ie not much at all ) ETA - whilst the dog is in store it is toileted and fed as required. The staff at the stores here love having the dogs in store.
  13. We have one entire male (though likely to be desexed within the next 12 months) and two entire females. Under normal circumstances they sleep at opposite ends of the house so that they don't "sing" whilst we're out. There is also a large size difference between male & females so they're never run together anyway as Grover (the deerhound) has absolutely no concept of his size and the Fauves get sick of him jumping on their heads. When the girls are in season he literally never has any contact with them - when he is out, they are in, when he is in, they are out. When we had General here we boarded him when the girls were in season as he went ballistic.
  14. I'm pretty sure that I've worked it out - its the stupid Portugese Millipedes which is why they're leaving one garden bed alone. The millipedes love heavily mulched areas and are out in force after rain at this time of year. They're absolutely EVERYWHERE in Albury at the moment and their smell would really attract the Fauves.
  15. Change of plans but nothing will be happening now for a week. On the very best of legal advice .
  16. Also meant to say, this is certainly not just true of new folk. The new person at least has the advantage that with the right intervention by the right people, they'll get a clue. Once kennel blindness sets in I think the problem is much harder to budge. I must admit that the worst tanties I've seen ringside and following a show have been from experienced (showing for more than 10 years) exhibitors. Interestingly it always seems to be the same people having the tanty so I've found it easy to take their tanties with a grain of salt. That has been what has made it all so enjoyable for me. We all started within the same 12 month period and we get on well. We sit together, we help each out in the ring and we cheer like nobodies business when one of us wins . I'm not a good handler but I keep trying to improve it. I started in a rare breed which makes it harder (though in some ways it makes it easier ). I've chosen to believe that the dogs who win do so because they were the best dog on the day. If I choose to believe all the stuff I hear when people have a tanty then there would be absolutely no bloody point at all in me showing dogs.
  17. The money was paid to our vet not us so that my legal advice says that is not payment. The paperwork is also still in our name - no paperwork was sent with the dog as if the dog is swapped from one trailer to another the paperwork often doesn't get handed over. We've found it safer to post once the dog arrives. We still haven't heard anything. The breed rescue is trying to get the dog back to us also.
  18. He is currently awaiting information from the Vet Board on what he should do.... Still no word.
  19. So it is only done to a dog that has correct ears to start with then? That may be part of my misunderstanding. Is it something that only happens with dogs who have ears that bend at the ends, ie Irish Terriers etc or is it dogs who have ears that stick straight up as well, like a GSD?
  20. I would still love you without teefies..... Tell Danny you have to both come!!! I'll even post him a spotted hanky! Woohoo Rozzie!!!! We finally get to meet.
  21. I will confess to feeling the same way about the hairspray . I have a breed where very little is done and the most that is done is done by me. My breeder does nothing other than brush them and occasionally strip out their ears. I use a foam shampoo to clean their coat without softening it and brush up the fur on their legs but that really is it with my breed which may be why I feel this way more. what about that other stuff you use on their coats Trisven or have you stopped using it The stuff you were brushing in, like a mousse? I use a mousse that cleans their coat - is that what you mean? It is used as a bath so that the coat doesn't go soft. I was using some gel on their legs but found it made no difference so I just brush it up now. mousse/gel I'm a total novice to hair stuff I was talking to some breeders overseas and they prefer a more natural look with the Fauves too rather than the quite groomed look of the PBGVs so I'm going to follow their lead. Can't hurt hey?
