New Proposed Dangerous Dog Laws Vic
Trisven13 replied to Andrea&John's topic in General Dog Discussion
I will be attending the meeting with A&J. Erny - do you want to give me a buzz or I will ring you and run through with me some of the things we really need to address. I will need to read through the proposed changes better but I would love some pointers on the things that are of the highest priority. -
New Proposed Dangerous Dog Laws Vic
Trisven13 replied to Andrea&John's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well Andrea&John have been very busy and very proactive - I hope other's follow their lead. . A meeting next week with the local member is planned so I hear. Well done guys, particularly when you don't own a breed likely to be impacted by these changes. -
One Of My Worst Nightmares Has Happened.
Trisven13 replied to baifra's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh God I know how you feel. I was looking after Tibbiemax's dogs for her whilst she was away for a weekend - I had afternoon shift and her Dad had morning shift. I went over, fed them, hung out with them etc and went home. Tibbiemax got home the next day and her much-loved beautiful girl passed away in her arms. God I felt bad - what had I missed, I could have taken her to the vets and she could have survived Logically you can know that you did everything normal and expected but it was still on your watch. Hugs to you. -
Just out of interest SBT what dilute is a chocolate Staffordshire? There was a girl who used to consistently end up in Albury Pound until she was finally pts. I've never seen one before - can you get them in chocolate?

I actually think it is a good idea. I get people ringing up on behalf of someone else regularly with the dog rescue dogs - if I like what the friend has to say and they like what I have to say then the person actually interested in the dog will contact me. I don't know if it is because I expect tyre kickers in rescue that it doesn't bother me as much, but it really doesn't. To me it is no different than me getting someone who knows about cars to help me find a good car - I don't know anything, don't know what to ask or look for so it makes sense to get someone who does to help me. It also means that novice/naive people are less likely to get caught out by less than scrupilous breeders.

Happy Birthday Message To A Wonderful Woman
Trisven13 replied to ~Anne~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Can't keep this sort of thing a secret..... Happy birthday and I hope that you family spoil you a little on your day. You deserve it. -
Morsha68 on here is in Victoria and has Japanese Spitz. I know jack about the breed - I only know that I have heard many people comment on how beautiful her dogs are. I do, however, know Morsha and know that she is someone I would buy a dog from.

From my CAMP (Companion Animal Management Plan) meeting with Albury Council 2 months ago I didn't think you needed an order from the Rangers. Present at that meeting was Arthur Fraunfelder, vet and President of Albury RSPCA, the head ranger and the head of compliance for Albury City Council. I would recommend ringing Arthur and asking what is required to do the procedure because at that meeting he stated he was still doing the procedure, intimated that he thought the cruelty charges being faced in Victoria were ridiculous (though I don't doubt he would deny that if actually asked ) and talked about what was required. I'm 99% sure that he said it was just a stat dec because the rangers said that it was handy to know that they could refer people to Arthur. My vet told me he was the only vet on the border who would do the procedure. He owns and works in Hume Animal Hospital and Melrose Animal Hospital. He is normally in Hume Animal Hospital.

God that sounds drastic Ashanali. Sounds a little like Rebanne described Piper's injuries. Piper is her lovely greyhound boy who degloved himself - he caught himself on the handle of the clothesline and literally peeled off his skin on his body . I've seen the good photos and they were horrific. She may have some good tips on healing as I know it took many months for him to recover and he has a lot of scarring. Poor Kayo - it must have been very frightening for everyone involved.

Excellent Newfsie. Maybe if you contact Steve about signing up as a carer for Pacers and PM your contact details we will be able to get on to you if it is needed. We're all very hopeful that these dogs will be back with their owner sooner rather than later.

Sadly e-collars are illegal in NSW but otherwise I would highly recommend them. We lived with a deaf dog from my late teens to my early 30's and she was no different to any other dog except you had to step over her when you opened the door because she didn't hear you . We didn't let her off-lead but we didn't let any dog off lead. We have had a number of deaf dogs through and all of them, as KKDD said, have found fabulous high quality homes who sought them out because of their deafness. We have a gorgeous little guy at the moment called Merrick who is about 6-8 months old and a pure red ACD. He is just divine and I'm surprised he has taken as long to rehome as he has (we've had since he was 8 weeks old). He knows quite a few hand signals and did really well at the Underdog Training thingys here. I just love him - he is like a big smooshy teddy bear!

Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy
Trisven13 replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
a pup that may not be of show quality is hardly faulty, it could be as something as minor as a mis mark, a bit too much white for example. Something that has no bearing on the pups ability to live a long and normal life with it's new family. Exactly! Any Fauve that I breed that has any kind of mismarking or similar restricting it from being shown will be put on limited register. I have thought long and hard about rehoming desexed and I think that anything that I place in a pet home on limited register will be desexed before it leaves me. The last thing I want to see out there is a Fauve X. I *think* that I will place the balance on main register given the scarcity of Fauves in Australia - I don't want to desex all pups before rehoming only to have some disaster down the track and lose the lines completely. My daughter's cavalier was born on main register only because he was a stud fee pup. The breeder thought he wouldn't turn out so pet homed him - turns out she (by her own admission) got it wrong. He will most likely now be shown in shows around Mildura if there are any neuter classes. If I was buying purely for pet I would expect to buy on limited register. -
Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
Trisven13 replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
This may sound really stupid but its really starting to hit home that it really is Jed who is injured as I'm noticing her not being here.... So stupid but I'm finding myself reading threads where that voice of reason is missing. Keep fighting Jed, we need you here. -
Congrats Rebanne & Miller. I couldn't believe how big he has grown from the pup we first met at Ovens Valley last year when I saw him 2 weeks ago. You've had great success from your first litter and I hope you are able to continue to make the mark on greyhounds in this country that I know you want to. Fabulous news.

That would be great babydol. Apparently the dogs can stay where they are until Tuesday when we will be heading over to pick them. Peta is in Wodonga too so if you want to give me a buzz later today (numbers on the Albury Dog Rescue website) we can organise it then. Trish

Campbell is turning 7 in June and will be able to start handling the Fauves with me then. Not sure if he is going to be all that interested - I suspect it will be McKenzie who really enjoys it but they'll both get the opportunity to have a go. I'm a very long way from being a good handler so I'm going to get someone else to give them some training but I am really curious about how others have dealt with it. Have your kids shown your breed? Have you got them their "own" dog to show? What are the benefits either way? The Fauves are a great dog with kids BUT they're very heavy to lift on to the table. Do Judges mind if someone helps the junior handlers to get them on to the table or should they only be showing dogs they can completely handle on their own?

Earliest Age To Introduce Solid Food To A Litter Of Puppies
Trisven13 replied to Baileys mum's topic in Breeders Community
Now that is probably very significant Tris, the pre birth condition of the mother. Nature allows for them to fatten up then produce milk and feed the pups. A debilitated mother would have starved the pups inutero and would have low supply because they would be so ravenous post birth. That has always been my view. The bitch whose pups started on solids at 2 weeks was emaciated and full of worms - she actually had to have a c-section as her condition was too poor for her to be able to whelp naturally. She definitely didn't have the condition - and seemed to HATE being a mother. With the greyhound litter we had culled half the litter at birth because the mother had severe birthing complications and wasn't expected to survive so I think Mum had supplies for double the pups she ended up with. As 8 pups is a really large litter for an Aussie I'm wondering if BM's bitch's milk is not enough now they're getting older. I know that she was in excellent condition pre-whelp and is being fed high quality food and she will create more milk the more they feed but I can't help thinking if they're trying to eat her food it is because they instinctually need it. Does that make any sense? -
Earliest Age To Introduce Solid Food To A Litter Of Puppies
Trisven13 replied to Baileys mum's topic in Breeders Community
With the rescue litters I've always based it on how the pups are going. I've found that most litters are around 3-3.5 weeks BUT I had one litter where the Mum was very much out of condition and her pups were into her food from 2 weeks. I quite simply don't think she had enough milk for all of the pups given her horrific condition, despite how much she was being fed. They very happily moved onto solids. Another litter of greyhounds weren't interested much at all until nearly 5 weeks -
I will get together some girly stuff - some clothes but also some toys.

Thank you for updating us Lesley. This must have been a horrific few days for you and I hope you're taking a little time for yourself. Hugs -
No worries - will see what, if anything, we have that might be helpful. Poor buggers - imagine teenagers without all the things they deem so essential for life . Do you know if the 8 & 4 year old are boys or girls?

How old are the kids Steve? Maybe we can send something over for them at the same time we pick up the dogs?

Mdba Pacers Non Believer Converted!
Trisven13 replied to Wazzat Xolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is so important. I know the man who was made a quadriplegic a few weeks ago whose dog is being cared for by one of our carers is incredibly appreciative. His friends have been to visit him and taken him some pics of his dog asleep on the floor in his foster home and it reduced his worry so much. God forbid we ever need Pacers but it is wonderful to know that it is there if we ever do. It is vital that we do everything within our power to help. -
No worries - there was a house burned out in Culcairn but I think it was the evening of Jed's fire rather than last night. This person has also whelped a couple of litters before so has the knowledge if they can't find anything else before then.
