Wagga/southern Region Hound Club Shows 25-27 June
Trisven13 replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
YEah I knew it was the big weekend but as we're moving the weekend after things are just too hectic here to do a full 3 day show - shitty timing but it will be worth it in the long run. I was so focused on making sure I was entered the show with Editha Newton judging that I completely forgot about the hound show and by the time I realised it was too late. Eh - my fault but at least I'm entered for the super important one. I remember last year when you were the steward - I loved that show though it was probably as much about having 3 days without kids as anything else . Campbell turns 7 tomorrow so he will be able to run one of the Fauves for run-off if we need to - he is very excited!!! Suppose I better buy him something nice to wear too -

Wow - I'm so pleased that you're well enough that they're happy to release you BUT it would be hard to be released before you're feeling ready. Will you at least be able to spend have some visits with your dogs now? I hope so and I hope that they help to cheer you up. -

Southern Region Country Classic Show
Trisven13 replied to Mandalay's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm entered Saturday only as we move the next weekend but can't wait!!! There should be loads of Fauves there as we have a Fauve specialist judge. I'm nearly peeing myself with excitement!!! I have to go buy new trousers though as nothing fits me - either that or you'll all get a good look at my knickers as I run around the ring!!! OMG reminds me how excited I am. I have been waiting for this show all year. -
Agree completely. You'd think so wouldn't you. Not so many for country exhibitors unless they want to travel a couple of hours each weekend. This is one of those things about dog showing that gets me. So many people whinge about the Judge only judging faces OR say that someone has only won because they're Secretary etc. If that is really the case what the hell are we doing showing? Unless we are a face or on a committee we're all screwed. I choose to believe that it is not that way. If I was proved wrong and it was shown that it happens in the majority of shows I would give up showing as a waste of time and simply concentrate on improving my breed.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Wow - so that is you? A down-to-earth practical woman on the TV just as we see on DOL which just felt right. One of the few occasions when what I imagined was what I saw. And, stupidly - you look a lot younger than I thought you were with the years of experience that shine through in your posts. -
I bought Sketchers for showing and loved them so much I wore them every day of the week last Winter . Since I've lost weight my last pair are too big (go figure my feet even lost weight ) so I will need a new pair.

I know that someone will come along and post what I want to say. What I saw now will be clumsy and, well, just wrong. The loss of your beloved pets has always made me sad but to read it from you here tonight just breaks my heart. You have lived our worst nightmare and no matter how much I wish it otherwise, I can't make it better. I can just offer my heartfelt sympathy and hope that time helps to heal the grief you must be feeling. -

Woohoo Jed. -
Front page of the Border Mail here in Albury today of a number of cases. What I've heard is that most are from Wodonga, not Albury, but there does appear to be a bit more of it on the Border ATM. I'm assuming it is because of the rain.

What Does It Mean To Love A Dog?
Trisven13 replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Firstly - I think that sometimes the kindest thing you can do for some dogs is to rehome them. I've told this story many times before but will cut it down for those who haven't read it before. Eleven and a half years ago I felt really sorry for a Miniature Pinscher X JRT that was in a pet shop for weeks. He had been purchased but they returned him because they lived in a unit. So enter stupid me who knew absolutely nothing about Min Pin's but was looking for a companion for my JRT. For the princely sum of $75.00 I purchased this little dog (around 15 weeks old) who had spent 5 plus weeks living in a crate in the corner of the pet shop. For 8 years I loved Tigger, trained Tigger and tried really hard to put up with his behaviours that drove me insane. He was NOT suited to a home with children, not because he didn't like kids (because he loved them), but the parents who visited him sent him into fits of stress. He was a nervous nightmare who was so smart but couldn't stay as that meant you walked away from him. He shook, he barked, he nipped strangers visiting the property if I wasn't around. Quite simply, for someone with young kids and constant visitors both he and I were living a nightmare. He also had a terrible habit (born from poor socialisation obviously) of nipping the back legs of dogs he was frightened of. One day he took that too far with my greyhound Bart who gave him a lovely open-mouthed correction but connected with the edge of his eye and pushed his eye out of the socket. Taking this little dog to the vet in a serious state of shock with his eye sitting on his muzzle I realised that I had caused it. I had kept him in an environment in which he was uncomfortable - sure I could get rid of Bart who was threatening his safety due to his size, but that wasn't going to fix his problems with visitors. I rehomed Tigger to a home where he is adored, where he goes to training (and is almost learning to stay ) and where, most importantly, he is happy. I see him often and he is always happy to see me but he NEVER EVER wants to come home with me. I am crying just typing this as it was the hardest decision I've ever made but it was the right one. Sometimes the kindest thing someone can do for their dog is to find it a new home. I think we have to be so careful sometimes because many, many times a dog is better off being surrendered to a pound by a useless owner than staying alive in their backyard with no human contact. Dogs have no fear of euthanasia, they have no concept of it (and sadly I have seen many dogs pts in a pound environment) whereas they do understand neglect. I'd much rather, personally, see a dog pts than living a life of misery in a backyard. Sure if a dog is leaving one of us to go to the pound then that is not a good thing but very few of these dogs leave a good home for the pound. -
Yes when people ask me what breed my dogs are and look at me blankly I'll have to remember to say "its okay to have not heard of them, there are only 24 in Australia". To think when I first started I used to say "there are only 7 in Australia"
-
Oh I love that bitch!!! I've been told by a Judge (and fellow breeder) that this girl's structure is almost perfect but she has bucketloads of coat. She will have been very, very heavily stripped out in that video from what I'm told of her coat. She has a lovely cobby body doesn't she? Her proportions just look gorgeous to me. I also laugh at how relaxed showing is over there - I could really enjoy that . I heard today that there are four more Fauves in Australia now with a new litter born 3 weeks ago.
-
But that is not the point. This is the first time I've commented but I've read SO MANY posts by you ripping into the owners of big dogs for not keeping small dogs safe, well at least that is how it reads. I HATE aggressive dogs, I can't personally see why anyone would want to own an aggressive dog regardless of its size. I don't see any pleasure in owning a dog that can't be trusted around people or dogs but the size of that dog doesn't come into the equation. If your posts about aggressive dogs concentrated on the actual fact of the aggression I wouldn't have picked up on it but it is always about the SIZE of the dog. We need to be addressing the fact of aggressive dogs not the size of those dogs. In my experience, rescuing dogs in Albury/Wodonga for over 5 years, I've seen aggressive dogs in all shapes and sizes. Its their aggression that means I reject them for rehoming, not their size. ETA - my JRT broke through a fence many years ago before I knew about responsible dog ownership to attack someone's dog. Again I stress - its not the size of the dog but the aggression it displays that we should be addressing.
-
Forget it being big macho dogs. I know you have a "thing" about them but its dangerous dogs of ALL sizes who are the problem. You should see my friend's daughter's face after her misadventure with a Maltese X - scars she'll carry for the rest of her life.

Interesting Things That Happen In Dog Parks
Trisven13 replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its interesting isn't it? Anyone who has met my Fauves would know that they're very easy-going and great with other dogs. They very rarely growl at each other let alone anyone else. One day, when Daphne was around 6 months old, they and some pups were in the front yard eating chicken carcasses. A pushy little pup came up to Daphne's bone to take it off her, and of course Daphne didn't do anything. Marie came flying from a few metres away, told the pup off in no uncertain terms and stood there for a bit until she was sure Daphne had her chicken carcass. I've never seen her do it since but it was so incredibly protective that I was gobsmacked. -
That is my thought. The more experienced person assesses whether the breeder is any good or not. The breeder then speaks to the person who wants to adopt the dog to assess whether the buyer is any good or not. I wouldn't expect a breeder to sell a pup to someone without assessing that person obviously.
