Please don't take this as a criticism BUT reading about how some of the pups are spending most of their day away from Mum I'm wondering about the fact that we all say that they can't be rehomed until 8 weeks, primarily because they need to learn about being a dog from Mum - bite inhibition etc. Well that was always how I understood it. Is it more that they learn that from their littermates? Sorry - been really sick for a few days and my thinking isn't working very well

People struggle to tell my Fauves apart but its really obvious to me and my family.

I spoke with Chris on the weekend and she was telling me about the first time that she took Banjo to see his Dad. Apparently Banjo had been very, very quiet at her house and not overly interested in much. She took him in to see his Dad who called him and Banjo suddenly turned into a very, very animated dog. He leapt all over his owner and then looked at him as if to say "Okay Dad, you're here, I've found you, lets go home". Apparently from that visit he has been a different dog who is again enthusiastic about everything in this world. Banjo's owner had apparently said to someone only the week before his accident that there were two things he was proud of in his life - one was his house and the other was Banjo. It would have been an absolute tragedy if at such a bad point in his life he'd lost the only family he has. Chris is an amazing woman - everything she and her OH do is done above and beyond the call of duty. She makes the world a wonderful place.

There were quite a few cases in Wodonga last month . Its been a much wetter year this year and I'd heard that it was always worse after rain - I wonder if that is contributing?

Sorry - yes loads of pics and will post them once I've fully moved in. It was great fun and a real eye-opener for lots of people to see so many Fauves in the ring. The Judge was very complimentary.

Thanks for your input. I've read some more on it from links posted and I think its most likely the way he was born but I will get a vet to examine him if his temperament is otherwise good. He is so young that I just can't see how maturity will do anything but cause him pain.

There is a dog currently in Albury Pound who has come from a definitely neglectful home, I would say probably cruel home. There are photos of him in the rescue forum and I have attached a link. He appears to have quite a twisted rear end and strange tail position and I seem to remember hearing that in some breeds (maybe Bulldogs who have a short curly tail?) the gene that causes the short/twisted tail can cause a spinal abnormality. If that is the case does it look like what this young dog has? Link to rescue forum

Hi everyone! Had a great day (didn't win ) but had a blast and it was great to hear about my dogs from an expert. Challenge Dog went to Xkaliba Nicholas Froment (sp?) who is owned by Master Lachlan Lang from Melbourne - there was much cheering and tears at that win. Challenge Bitch went to Nevedith Iz Top Ace, Chrissy, who is Marie's mum - I must say the minute I saw her I knew she was going to win as she looked the very best I've ever seen her. A real credit to Neil & Susan for getting her into tip-top shape for this big show. Whilst of course Challenge Bitch was my dream for the day I was still very happy with their performance. Daphne was run off for Intermediate Bitch against her sister but was pipped at the post by Carla who was runner-up for Challenge Bitch. Marie was Oz Bred Bitch and was beaten for Oz Bred of breed by her brother because, as the Judge said, she wouldn't hold her tail up, silly girl . The Judge spoke with all exhibitors after judging and was very, very complimentary about the Fauves here in Australia. She also talked to us about the really important things for us to look for and, thankfully, it was all the things we're aiming for. Still on a high, I had such a great time and Fifi - you will be very proud - no nerves at all, my girls and I just had fun. It was bloody cold all day and I'm only just warming up now I'm home in the heating in my slippers. ETA - as I had Sarkozy and not Froment

IF anyone is in the Wagga area this weekend and interested in seeing a very large number of the Fauves currently in Australia they should head down to the Southern Regions show on Saturday. There will still be Fauves there Friday & Sunday but Saturday is the BIG show.

Mine love other Fauves and go ballistic to see them. Marie, who is quite a snob for a Fauve, also goes into paroxysms of love to see Neil, the breeder,l who she lived with until she was 4 months old. Marie also loves Dachshunds and as Neil also shows Daccy's that, to me, has always made sense. They both and particularly Daphne, think that every Deerhound they see is Grover. Daphne nearly turns herself inside out to say hello to them when we are at a show with Deeries. They like all breeds but really love the breeds they've each grown up with. I would love to see what Daphne thought of Swedish Valhunds as she spent the first 9 weeks of her life with some but they're, sadly, not a breed we see a lot of.

It was very nice to get my entry returned from the Southern REgions show with a little hand-written note on the back of the envelope saying "Thank you for supporting our show". Though of course that has nothing to do with "Things exhibitors should know".

Definitely entered. I've been waiting for this show for 6 months. We actually haven't done any shows for 6 months because we've been getting ready for this big move, though we have done judges' training days. Neil said that he thinks that all the Fauves currently shown will be there except for the one in Tasmania. Can you imagine? I just can't imagine that many Fauves in the ring at one time, I won't know what to do

No its all good - I entered the right show. Just rang Neil to confirm. Phew - God I was feeling sick and had tears in my eyes through worry. Win, lose or draw that weekend to just have so many other Fauves, to meet the ones I haven't yet seen and to have a breed expert look at my dogs. I'm just buzzing with the excitement.

with an English judge for Fauves on Sat! No she is doing the main show isn't she? Please don't tell me I entered the wrong show on Saturday as well as missing the other one. I will cry huge tears of disappointment.
