  1. Congrats - and as an aside go Krakka again!! Kind of related to Fauves as he has grown up with them, lives with them and hates them
  2. Whilst I haven't done Bairnsdale I can agree with you wholeheartedly on the others. I also really like the Corowa/Deni weekend that is held at the Equestrian Centre in Thurgoona - and any other show that is held there. Lovely big grounds for set-up, large rings with walkways, clean toilets, easy parking and good food. I tend to like a lot of the smaller country shows that may not be as easy to park or set-up around (Ovens Valley is one I can think of that is harder for parking etc) but they always make up for it with lovely company and a very friendly atmosphere. Holbrook Show is another one that is very nice - and only 10 minutes from home . I also really, really like to be able to see all the rings easily - no point being at a show if you can't watch what is going on.
  3. That sounds like what greyhounds have had through GAP Victoria but I didn't know it applied in NSW. Is there anyone who can confirm this?
  4. Hey Tibbiemax - you got pics of your girls?
  5. Marie comes home on Saturday and then I have to do my darnedest to not second guess, study her belly etc . We all want this litter so much but if it doesn't happen then we will just have to wait until next time.
  6. That is my experience too. One of the members of ADR had a pup come down with parvo and she opted to treat it - it was less than $1,000.00 and the pup spent about 5-6 days at the vet. The major treatment was IV fluids. Every dog I've known of that has been treated for parvo has survived - bearing in mind that when I was at the helm of ADR our general plan of attack was to not treat parvo due to the after care required as well as the cost. If my own dog had parvo I would treat it and expect that it would get quite sick but survive.
  7. I won't be there but my dog will. Really disappointed to miss this weekend of shows as I just love them but sadly have to go to Sydney for the BIL's 40th birthday
  8. it is exciting isn't it, even if you get beat I LOVE shows where there are other Fauves. I LOVE having all the people on the side of the ring watching because there are so many of us for once. I LOVE being able to see the other Fauves in Australia, get my hands on them etc.
  9. As someone whose dogs were both titled on almost exclusively 6 point challenges that is a way of looking at it that I haven't heard before. I like it . For me I pretty much only consider a show to be a great show when I've won a Class in Group because then I HAVE beaten other dogs. It really isn't as much fun being the only one of your breed day in and day out - some of my favourite showing days have been days when I've been beaten but there have been multiple Fauves in the ring.
  10. I agree with this wholeheartedly and hope that one day this will happen. My frustration in this whole event was the different way it was treated by the media which I believe was due only to the dog's breed.
  11. Photos to come - just waiting on some that have been taken to be sent to Katherine - hint hint BBJ ;) . I have seen many photos of him obviously but nothing that I yet have permission to post OR that Katherine has received in a downloadable form from the photographer. His importation has been a long time coming but he has been well worth the wait. Marie comes home next weekend. :D Sorry to not ring you Fifi - I thought I'd seen you in "the Show Ring" around the same time and I didn't want to ring you to tell you when you would read it here. ETA - Apparently, technically, it is a Best in Competition win not a BIS being a Member's Comp Show. We don't have them here on the Border, to be honest, so apologies for getting the technical term wrong. Regardless it is the BIGGEST win for a Fauve here in Australia so far but I'm sure he'll be seen in more BIS line-ups. He is, without doubt, the nicest Fauve in Australia.
  12. Yeah she was pretty happy. I have no doubt that he is going to go on to many more big wins and be the first big winning Fauve in Australia. She has done a fabulous job of bringing a beautiful example of the breed into the country. Here's hoping that he produces some great puppies too!!!
  13. You need to meet some of the X breed terriers that went through Albury Dog Rescue then as they all had spectacular temperaments. The Staffy X Maltese pups, in particular, were beyond reproach.
  14. Albury Dog Rescue rehomed a litter of Maltese/Shih Tzu X Staffy pups and they were adorable. They were like a really stocky scruffy terrier - I bet that many more of the larger scruffy terriers are similar mixes than are given credit for. Some local idiot is also breeding Maltese X ACD and calling them Blue Teasers . Albury Dog Rescue have rehomed a stack of them AND their subsequent litters. There is another local idiot breeding Norwegian Elkhounds & Beagles that are sold at the local Pets Paradise. Very, very cute dogs BUT a number of ended up in the pound.
  15. Sverdrups Yvon "Hagen" imported from Denmark, won Best in Show today at Morwell-Taralgon Members Comp Show!!! Woohoo - he is the first Fauve to win a Best in Show and whilst this was a Members Comp Show I have no doubt he will go on to bigger and better things. He is only 14 months old and a stunning dog!!! Best of all he is the father of Marie's "hopeful" puppies. Very, very excited!!!
  16. I'll be there visiting on Saturday to pick up my Marie for, hopefully, 50 days of spoiling before puppies. Very excited about picking her up but I'm also excited about the yummy food that is always on offer. :D
  17. Firstly you don't know the reason the dog snapped and secondly even if you did, it could never explain the myriad of reasons there are other dog attacks That's not what I'm saying. It's the bigger picture. If we have every dog involved in an attack like this PTS without a behaviourial assessment, what will we learn? How can we prevent other dogs attacks without examining why the dog behaved in that way in the first place? I agree with you Huski but I can't help but be frustrated that this dog is likely to get a second chance because of its breed and that same behavioural assessment is not considered as necessary by media etc when it is a breed considered by the general public as more likely to bite. In my years in rescue I've seen many breeds of dogs who were potentially dangerous - there are a number who have really stuck out over the years and they were a true variety of breeds - a rottweiler, a boxer, a beagle, a chihuahua mix, a labrador and a cocker spaniel - only one of those is a breed the general public would automatically condemn as dangerous and admittedly it was the worst one but it was closely followed by the beagle. I just wish that the kindly words I saw spoken about this dog and the desire for understanding of its behaviour happened with EVERY report of a dog bite. And no I don't own a Golden Retriever - to be honest I'm not really a gundog person, particularly Goldies and Labs Too many of them down this way and not many nice ones.
  18. I don't normally jump on the bandwagon with these threads but I have to say that all the reporting I've personally seen on this story has been based on the "Wow a golden retriever bit four people, there must be a good reason for it" but I seriously doubt that the same would happen if the dog had been a GSD, a Dobermann, a Rottweiler, an Amstaff, a Mastiff or some other large dog with a more dangerous reputation. The media reports I've seen have all been slanted towards there being a good reason for it happening which is the first time that I've ever seen that in a dog bite story. Call me a cynic but I don't believe the fact that the dog is a golden retriever is unrelated to the way it is being reported.
  19. No more ties, she's stopped flagging and has settled right down so lets hope that is because it worked
  20. I have a very similar photo of Marie...... :D :D
  21. He is really lucky he is so cute - just a complete crack-up of a dog!!! But then I have a fondness for orangey coloured scruffy things
  22. Marie is being leased to Katherine for our hopeful litter as she has spent a lot of money importing the dog and she really wanted the first litter in her prefix. Doesn't bother me in the slightest - we each get a puppy, we just have to pray for a good one of each.
  23. Is that where the boots are eaten? If so he should do really well..... :)
  24. Congratulations murmurstaffs- i hope everything goes well for you!! ;) Trish did you get another mating? I haven't heard yet but Katherine told me she'd give me a call in a couple of days so I'm not expecting to hear anything more until tomorrow. For now though I'm pleased with one as it is way better than none
  25. WooooooooooooooooooooooooooHoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ETA. Then I read your next post. ;) Then the next ;) That girl was defiantly ready on Sunday. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) Yes it has been a roller-coaster couple of days ;)
