Can Anyone Point Me To How Much Barking
Trisven13 replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well I've been here now for 2 1/2 days and her dogs barely make a sound. My sister said that on the afternoon that she received the phone call her husband had been playing in the pool with their kids. My niece, God love her , has a very, very, very highpitched squealy voice when she is excited. Her husband said that he hadn't heard the dogs barking when he was in the pool and they actually think she was complaining about Tamsyn thinking it was a dog . Tamsyn's voice really cuts through you so I wouldn't be surprised. I will be writing a letter for my sister when I leave because, unless they're barking when she is out which is not what this woman is complaining about, I think she has confused my niece with a dog Poor Tamsyn, at 7 she is a little young to be really called a dog -
Can only think of the lady's real name, not her DOL name, but she has a greyhound named Pickles!! I LOVE it and would really love to use it one day for a Fauve. I've also thought of Parsley for a dog I like anything that is a little left of centre and if that means food or old-fashioned human names, or bogan names or whatever, I'm happy.

Well done to BittyMooPeeb with Magic winning BOB Well I think that is how I read it It was so great to catch up with you again at Tumbarumba and see your gorgeous "real" dogs.

Oh God I can imagine!! Can't wait to see what colours you get and how many that little girl is carrying as her belly looks enormous.

Oooh how excitement!!! So hopefully you, I & Tibbiemax could all be competing in puppy sweepstakes together? and won't that be fun Actually I was just remembering today doing sweepstakes with Marie - remember how she used to just lay down and refuse to walk???? OMG!!!

What's Wrong About Giving Dogs Human Names?
Trisven13 replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I LOVE human names for dogs. We've got Mac - came with it, short for Macarthur Bart - came with it Marie - came with it (pronounced as in Marie-Clair the magazine) Grover - completely suits Big Stupid and I wish his registered name was "Prefix 'Tis I Grover" Daphne - hysterical name and my favourite name for ALL of my dogs - suggested by Ready Set Go Ellie-Mae - well she is a bloodhound so it was kind of obvious though she gets called "Ells Bells" as much as anything else. Hopefully we'll have a male Fauve to add to our family soon and I've been tossing up all sorts of names but its most likely to be a human name. I like Dennis (though worry that I'll create a "Dennis the Menace". We've also considered, if Marie is pregnant, that we'll go with a theme of the Danish Royal Family as they have a Danish father and Australian mother - the stud dog is Danish. If we do go with that theme it would leave me with Frederick, Christian & Vincent to choose from. Sadly I've exhausted a lot of my favourite dog names naming rescue dogs -
weather has been near perfect Yeah, yeah rub it in!!!

Thanks Poocow - I saw on Facebook that it was Taejaan Supernatural "Nate"!! Woohoo boy!

I just loved Wil and am so pleased that I got to spend a bit of time with her in her last 12 months. She could be a noisy bugger when the mood took her but she was a special girl. I know your home (and your beds) must be very empty without her.

Morsha makes the BEST cakes!!! In fact I've never eaten anything that Morsha has made that wasn't yummy! Very jealous! Congrats on the BIG Sway - anyone know which Sibe was BIG? Weather up here in Sydney is wet and revolting - should have stayed home and come to the show

How is Nima Tibbiemax? I've been wondering about her all day.

OMG - I've got goosebumps reading that!!! Its actually more obvious in the photo than I had realised.

What Makes A Show/s Popular With You?

Judges who don't give every dog/breed a decent look won't win any accolades from me. Making group placements before every dog is in and stacked really irritates me. Maybe that is my problem because that happens on a regular basis with Fauves - even the really good ones . Basset Fauve De Bretagne features pretty early in the group listings ;) but I have had numerous occasions where class in group was awarded before I'd taken more than a few steps into the ring . So, yes, I agree that a good judge is one who appears to know your breed and actually takes the time to look at them. I suppose I'm just getting a little sick of hearing exhibitors constantly telling me that the Judge didn't know what they were talking about because their dog got dumped. . Its a $10 opinion, sometimes you'll agree with it, sometimes you won't and its ridiculously childish to complain about it constantly. Though I will admit to being a little vocal (in an amused way) when a Judge told me "I've only seen the Petits of these"... - Argh, they don't come in Petit . I always thought it was gobsmacking that I received any points that weekend as Marie is a crap PBGV -
Can Anyone Point Me To How Much Barking

My sister is dropping in her letters to the Council and her barking diary. She is also going to mention that the woman said that she is in and out of delirium because IMO that points to the fact that she doesn't always know what is going on. -
What To Do When Council Or Police
Trisven13 replied to RottnBullies's topic in General Dog Discussion
We had the same thing happen in Albury. A guy who lived in the feral housing commission behind us had two small dogs and one large mixed breed dog. The two smalls dug into my yard and attacked one of our dogs - rangers didn't care. The big one jumped the fence and bailed Steve up, it bailed up an older woman on a scooter, bailed up an intellectually disabled boy behind our yard (so bad I thought I was going to have drag the kid over my fence) and bailed up numerous other people. He was impounded the time he jumped into our yard but was released to the owner without a problem. It took until the dog was wandering the streets trailing 20 metres of chain before the rangers finally impounded the dog and he was put to sleep - the rangers had the nerve to say to me they'd been trying to get the dog for months - PLEASE!!! -
My sister has recently had a barking complaint about her dogs from one neighbour - first contact was to the ranger and subsequent contact has been made directly to my sister through a phone call on Sunday. The dogs sleep indoors at night but are outside during the day. Their yard is small (think Bangor in Sydney) and borders on 3 other houses. The neighbour's house is the house directly behind them. The neighbour rang on Sunday and asked that the dogs be kept quiet - my sister said that when the phone call was made the dogs weren't making a sound. The neighbour said that she was very ill, in and out of delirium and the dogs were causing her stress. I recommended my sister keep a barking diary as she didn't believe they barked a lot AND that she communicate with the neighbour that she would be investigating ways to reduce the barking, including fencing off the section of yard that borders her yard (which she has done). Anyway - she rang today to say that she has supporting letters from two other neighbours that her dogs are very behaved and don't bark and her barking diary shows that her dogs have barked the most today - 8 separate barks over the course of the day. Surely that is reasonable barking? By separate barks she means 1 "woof woof" and nothing more. She wanted to know if that would be considered too much barking and I said that I doubted it. She is very worried about going away for holidays this weekend with her family and her dogs being outside alone but also doesn't like the idea of them being locked up whilst she is away. She has a dog minder who visits every day to care for the dogs & cats - that person has also provided a reference for the dogs. I will be staying at her house whilst she is away so I will be interested to see how much (or how little) noise her dogs make. I'd love to be able to tell her what an acceptable level of barking was.

I can't help but be amused by everyone's comments about Judges - surely a "good" judge in most people's eyes is one who has put their dog up but that would mean your competitors think the Judges are crap . There has been nothing more disheartening than having a ring to have someone tell me that the Judge was useless and knew nothing, simply because THEIR dog didn't win. I'm constantly told I'm ridiculously naive (and sadly by people who are very experienced showies OR Judges) but surely if the judging is as corrupt as people tell us there is no point in most of us showing at all. -
Here are some pics of my girl taken at 3 weeks since mating - they're crap and they don't really show anything BUT in the last couple of days we've definitely noticed that she has a "line" of boobies when she is standing that is new, not that they show at all in these pictures. Whatever happens in 10 days when we have our ultrasound it will have been fun dreaming of what could be and if I didn't take photos in case she wasn't pregnant I would miss all the excitement of our first pregnancy - RIGHT?????? Come on newbies, help me out here :) Marie - and hence why my husband DOESN'T show her Excuse her dirty belly - she'd been playing in the mud :D She and Daphne can now run together BUT they're sleeping apart and every time I put them together Marie still hackles (but is very excited) and Daphne thinks she smells very interesting. Who knows if it is a good sign or not but I won't lie, I'm hoping it is
-
Just pick 'em up on the day. If I'd known about my dramas earlier I would have seen if you could show Daphne but its way too awkward to organise now.
-
There hasn't been too much rain but it has been wet - wouldn't hurt to bring some gumboots in case.
-
I got my numbers yesterday but sadly Daphne won't be showing as Bilbo Baggins is not able to come up after all. If anyone is interested in showing a Fauve and can pick her up from boarding kennels in Albury they're welcome to but looks like its not our weekend. Steve has just taken all the dogs off for boarding with the exception of Marie who will be looked after by a local friend so she can stay warm and comfy in her normal situation. Wish I could cancel this weekend but sadly Steve won't be in it
-
No but Daphne is entered. We're leaving for Sydney tomorrow for my BIL's 40th birthday party and Bilbo Baggins & BBJ will be staying at my house and showing Daphne for me. Really sad I'm not going to get to do this show as it is one of my all-time favourites.
