Old Dog Moaning/crying At Times
Trisven13 replied to Trisven13's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No, no aspirin. I spoke with the vet today and she said that because it is so new in the midst of other new things happening in the house to keep an eye on him for a few days/week. If he does it again we will take him straight in for the day and she will give him a full assessment. She knows him and thinks that it may be as simple as his sleeping arrangements having changed - he doesn't have both girls touching him. She asked me more questions and I realised that both times he had been lying at one end of the giant crate and Daphne at the other where he is normally lying on or under Marie. Today he is fine and he settled down last night not long after I posted so we will keep an eye on him. Otherwise he looks like he will keep going for the next 10 years -
That is actually our plan - to turn a crate into a coffee table or two. For us the crates are essential when the kids come home from school so that they don't accidentally let the dogs outside and because Marie eats the cat crunchies

First I will say that I WILL be taking him to the vet, particularly after tonight as I'm worried that it is something internal (read cancer) causing him a problem but I was wondering also if dogs can do this when they have dementia. Mac is a JRT who is 12 in February. He was born with corneal dystrophy and has been gradually losing his sight since the day he was born - he is now pretty much completely blind. Over the last week now on two separate occasions he has been in his crate and has just quietly cried/moaned - tonight it has been for about 2 hours. He normally shares his crate (a giant breed crate) with my two Fauves but Marie is a bit niggly with Daphne now that she is pregnant so I'm not leaving them together in confined spaces and have moved her to her own crate. We've felt him all over and can't find anything that appears to bother him when we touch it. He is storm phobic and this sounds a little like he does when a storm is very close BUT the BOM says nothing is nearby, nor was it last time. He has lost a little weight recently but nothing out of the ordinary. Over the last 3/4 years he will vomit water after drinking too much but haven't noticed any increase in that. Over the last 6-12 months he has coughed up "hair balls" kinda noise but again nothing that has seemed out of the ordinary for a little old dog. Not quite sure either what the vet will be able to do as he doesn't do it consistently....

I can't wait until they're born as Fauve puppies are born with stripes!!! Seriously they look like little ginger kittens for the first couple of days until the stripes fade. How awesome!

I don't blame you. I was soooo sure that the vet would tell me it was a phantom and I think my vet was sure it was going to be too. As soon as she touched her though she said that she felt pregnant and that if she didn't have a full bladder she was sure she was pregnant - then sure enough ultrasound showed the babies. My vet was as happy as I was and Marie couldn't understand why I kept hugging her
-
I should add that my siblings and my parents were so impressed with how much our dogs loved their crates that they have each purchased crates for their own dogs
-
People comment on ours all the time - I simply say that they're just a kennel with a door. They normally spend 5 minutes in my house and notice how much our dogs LOVE their crates or watch them come tearing inside from their dog run to the comfort o ftheir crates. I simply wish that they were a little more decorative

We're definitely  Vet could see 2, possibly 3. Very happy here in Fauve land. :D

Thanks Leema - PM sent.

A group of 3 of us are going to be importing a Fauve puppy that will arrive in Australia later this month (very exciting!). Anyway I have been asked to draft up a contract for the ownership of the pup and, whilst I'm waiting to hear back from the others about what they think should be included, I'm interest to know what others think we need to include. Some of the things I've thought of just off the top of my head are: * Veterinary fees * Show entries * Breeding - are the litters jointly planned and shared OR does each owner have a litter themselves. If you go that way what, if anything, is done should something go wrong with the first litter and she needs to be desexed * She will be living primarily with the girl in Melbourne who shows most frequently but do we need to decide about what happens when she retires from showing? Thanks in advance

Yeah that would be really annoying.

I'd be very disappointed.

Awesome Bilbo Baggins!!

Sorry to hog but what do you guys think? This photo was taken last time we tried when she wasn't pregnant - this was 4 weeks. This photo taken today at what would be 5 weeks from the fresh AI.
-
A breeder friend had a look at her for me last night and she says that if she is not pregnant she is having one hell of a phantom but she thinks that she is up the duff. Going to ring the vet today and organise another ultrasound. Given that we had a natural tie on 6 October (with a prog test that was too low) and then two fresh AIs on 9 & 10 October I suppose the ultrasound could have been booked too early.
-
She has also lost hair around her nipples which has NEVER happened before. Going to have a friend look at her for me today but if there are no puppies still she is definitely phantoming.
-
Had another look at my bitch today and I'm not convinced that we've missed her. The vet said last week that if there was only one or two they could have been hidden up high where she couldn't see them and suggested we come back for a free ultrasound next weekend so I've decided today to do it. When she lays on her back I can feel a bit of boobage, her belly feels firmer than Daphne's and her nipples have changed colour (redder) and got bigger. Who knows - it could be a phantom and she is messing with my head but I'm going to go with the free ultrasound next weekend and check.

Question About French Bulldog Pricing
Trisven13 replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very true. I paid $1,000 for my first main registered Fauve and she was from the first litter born in Australia. If her breeder tried to recoup costs of importing her parents he would have needed to charge more than $3,000 per pup. There is starting to be a market for Fauves with the latest litter selling quickly to fabulous homes so I expect that their price will rise but there is no point charging lots for them if there isn't people wanting to buy one. -
Yes we will - for now I have to concentrate on our new import who arrives later this month.

This is why I love dog parks. So much goes on in them that is below the notice of most people, but it's really interesting when you start watching. Kivi has left me picking my jaw up off the ground several times because he handles tense social situations in quite complex ways with such success sometimes. I learn a lot from him. Do you ever find it stressful? I know I do, seeing all this underlying talk going on between the dogs and the owners are oblivious. My partners German Shepherd Ricky was for example, becoming extremely stressed by another GSD who was being very rude and pushy, it was like this other dog was trying to push ricky into a confrontation.(Putting his head over his shoulder, growling, getting right into his body space). I could see in the way Rickys face was tense, ears back, hackles going up, tail curling, lip curling a little that it was a matter of moment before he snapped at the dog out of most likely fear. I intervened, blocking the other dog from Ricky with my body and then moving Rickys attention to his frisbee and getting him away from the other dog. This all happened in a matter of moments of course. My partner had no clue, and the owner of the other GSD told me off because I should "Let them sort themselves out" Yes I find it incredibly stressful but not because of my dogs. Its always other people's dogs interacting with other people's dogs that cause me the most stress - my dogs are normally either hanging out with me or far removed from the dogs who are behaving oddly. I will never forget going to a dog rescue get together at the newest off-lead park. I'm sure Rebanne will remember the GAP Christmas Party we were both at when no-one was supervising the number of greyhounds in the off-lead park. Just before it got a bit narky Rebanne said "Oh my there are too many dogs in there, ? (can't remember her name) is going to be mad that people are ignoring her". Sure enough, minutes (or less) later there was a dispute - thankfully all dogs were muzzled as was required and no-one was hurt - though a few were frightened. I felt the same way at the dog rescue get together - I could SEE that it was going to get ugly, I could SEE which dogs were going to cause it but everyone told me I was imagining it and then it happened. Again thankfully no-one was hurt but it was STRESSFUL. I feel the same whenever I'm somewhere and too many dogs are off-lead without manners - so many dogs are rude and offensive but their owners just don't see it. As a result my dogs are ONLY off lead with dogs I know. ;)

I know nothing about puppy strangles but it looks like classic demodex to me and, IME, is more common in pups who have been under stress.

So sorry - though from a really selfish point of view I'm pleased its not just me....

Act Hound Club 3 December Twilight Show
Trisven13 replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oooh that could be fun...... Will think on it. -
Yep had the same thing here about 6 months ago when we rehomed a 9-12 month old BC mix to a family with young children and an older female BC mix. Snickers was the most amazing dog, very clever and very good at learning lessons from other dogs - I knew that he was perfect for this family, he sat at the feet of the kids for a pat, walked beautifully on lead for them etc etc but I also knew that their older BC would have to put him in his place a few times until he learned where he was supposed to be. The wonderful owners that they were they were very worried about HER and so we all stood around in my muddy dog run (it had been raining for a week ) for over an hour and watched how when left to their own devices he pulled up before he got to her, his body language was incredibly respectful and by the end of it she was quite happy to talk to him. The last photo I saw had them curled up together on the lounge :D

You sound like you are in dog showing for the right reasons and you put the breed before your personal success in the ring. There are many people (including my breed) that would NEVER sell you something decent just incase you beat them in the ring with it!!!! And if you as a new person dare beat them you are given the cold shoulder!! I have seen many new exhibitors discouraged by these actions. You are right we all need to help and encourage new people into our breeds.
