I couldn't look at my cat when he killed 6 day-old chickens. I'm not as fond of him as I was and I don't trust him at all. I despise the GSD who visits next door and killed one of my chooks. Its even easier to hate foxes.

While I agree this is an awful photo of a very nice bitch I fail to see any clipping. My bitch has that line of hair down her neck and believe me she is not clipped or stripped to make it. I think that a lot of the "strangeness" that people are seeing in the greyhound is simply the difference between show & race lines. I didn't think she looked odd in the picture??? it's not a pic I would put up with pride No of course not BUT IMO you could see that it was the angle of the picture that was the problem NOT the dog if that makes sense?

Thankfully mine don't. One of my Fauves managed to get out of the house one day when I was out. I came home to find her in the chook run with the young bantams - all alive and simply looking confused.

When you see what they do I don't see how you can look at it any other way. If they had taken all of the chooks then I would have been gutted but recognised that they needed to eat. When they leave them behind in pieces or still alive and suffering you just want to kill the little F*%ers. ETA - I also wish the GSD who visits next door never visited as he has killed one of my chooks AND I have a completely different view of my Cornish Rex since he killed 6 baby chickens. I get that animals kill to eat (and for pleasure - endorphine release) BUT I can't stand it when they kill something I love.

I've read all of this thread - I hate foxes with a passion and have made that obvious - BUT I have also listened to what Kirty (specifically) has had to say and I have to be honest I can see, to a degree, what she is talking about. Personally I would hate to see foxes ever owned as pets and I cheer when I see them dead on the side of the road but I have many friends who feel the same way about snakes and I really like snakes and have owned them. I don't know where I stand to be honest - I support the right people owning them in a safe and contained environment I suppose and yet I still really, really hate the idea of it because I think that they're totally foul, repulsive little killers. Having lived in suburbia for 41 years of my life living in suburbia (both Sydney & rural suburbia) and then 3 years living rurally I think it is truly fair to say that your viewpoint on foxes really changes when you see what they do. They are vicious killers - they left half of my beautiful named chooks in my yard and others dragged under fences - we found pieces of them for days afterwards. I don't own a gun but if I ever saw another on my property I would want nothing more than to kill it. Logically I understand what Kirty says but emotionally (and it is a visceral emotion) the whole idea just makes me very, very angry. ETA I hope that some of the fox lovers and/or supporters can see why they cause such extreme reactions or can at least understand that they too might feel those when greeted by the things some of us have seen. I hate wild dogs with just as much passion.

Oh Silvawillow I'm so sorry!! Our sadness has at least been tempered by distance. I think my children would have been devastated to have met our babies and to then lose them. Hugs

Yep! Never had this view of foxes until I lived rurally and saw the carnage they leave behind. Yes humans brought them here and they were bloody idiots to do it but simply because humans created the problem doesn't mean I have to nice feelings towards them. I have the same view of the GSD that visits my neighbours and killed one of my chooks on Christmas Day (anger at the humans who own it but also pissed off at the dog).

I can see that they're attractive but having lost 21 of 22 chickens in one night to foxes I hate the bastards. They're welcome to come down here and get as many of the feral little bastards as they like as long as they keep them a long bloody way from me. I'd hazard a guess that most people who have lived rurally would feel exactly the same.

Yep mine are exactly the same - I work from home and have actually taken photos every hour on the hour one day to prove our little they moved  . I have one who regularly chooses to sleep in the crate rather than on the lounge

So sorry Tony - I know how very special this boy was.

Will PM his number

He is awesome

Another positive note - checked my phone messages last night on arriving home and there was one from Wayne advising that he had finished dog training and if I needed help at Toll he would come over and help me. Seriously - on his day off and for no money.... You honestly can't buy that service. He is the only person I will use for importing and exporting again.

We will be there too Angelsun

Just realised that I haven't entered these shows but have booked my accomodation!! Need to get my arse in gear!

Yep, such a good guy - when Ace was expected to fly in on the Friday (said flight organised by people in NZ, not even through Wayne), he offered to come to the airport to help guide us through pick-up as it can be confusing going to the different places. There was NOTHING in it for him at all, he wasn't getting paid, he was simply being helpful.

Wayrod has also been fabulous for me with bringing in my new import from Sweden via NZ. Couldn't recommend him highly enough.

Oh Monteba I'm so sorry Must have been the date as our pups too were born on 4th Feb with only 1 remaining.

yes I have one, I find it very good to hold and handle. Thought it might have been a bit awkward but it isn't. oooh can we have a test of this on some Fauvey claws next time we catch up? I want to buy one because Fauves have nails that grow SOOOOOO fast and if it works well I'm going to buy one. Don't want to invest without seeing how to use it and how it works if that makes sense.

What weekend is the show?

How Well Do You Know Your Dog's Pedigree?
Trisven13 replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can't find anything like this for Fauves . Might talk to some of my European friends about trying to set something up like this. I've got a record of the dogs here in Australia but it doesn't go back very far. Even with my new import boy, whilst I've heard of many of the dogs in his pedigree, I've struggled to find good photos of many of them, plus he has many hunt dogs in his pedigree who don't have prefixes etc. -
I have a breed that has a distinctive odour - I wash bedding daily (I use vet bed so it washes & dries easily), I vacuum and sweep at least once a day, often more, I mop once a week and I have automatic deodorising sprays that help. My vacuum is a bagless one as I found that when using a better quality vacuum with bags the smell stuck in the vacuum more. I have no doubt that my house still smells like a dog house to a degree but we try to limit it as much as possible.

Oh adorable!! Our remaining baby boy is doing very well by all reports. Very hard to be so far away!
