  1. Gorgeous pups Sandgrubber - here is a picture of a couple of mine from the first litter as they enjoyed our beautiful Spring weather on the weekend. They're eating 3 meals a day and just fabulous fun! Marie's litter is now 2 weeks old and after a bit of a traumatic start where we lost 2 pups in the early days, they are now doing fabulously and are just positively enormous by comparison to Anna's litter at the same age - the milkbar's a bit better for Marie's litter I think
  2. I agree with this - the whole point of a breed ID is so that numpties will recognise the dog as that. When running the rescue we had a litter come in who were German Spitz x with something shorthaired (only know this because of Mum). The pups were all labrador coloured so we IDed them as Labrador X Terrier and told the owners what they actually were. Having spent many years dealing with dogs in pound IDs that don't match dogs don't help dogs.
  3. We had a litter of pups come through rescue many years ago - mother was an ACD with a stellar temperament. A large number of her pups were very timid and avoided contact. I was relatively naive and inexperienced at the time and we rehomed the litter - all the ones that had been very shy and avoided contact were put to sleep with major temperament issues before 12 months of age. They were dog and human aggressive. A number of the pups were delightful like their mother but sadly they were in the minority.
  4. Seriously Dogmad - you need to stop being so biased towards bull breeds. You despise dogs being off-leash and charging you and your dogs. Now, okay, you may not have been immediately aware from the article that the JRT was off-leash and the other dog was leashed but now that you know surely it is the time to acknowledge that you were wrong. Why on earth is it okay for ANY off-leash dog to rush at ANY on-lead dog? In this situation it sounds like the 42 year old woman had far less control of her small dog than the 80 year old woman did of hers.
  5. I agree that Pointers are under appreciated. They are actually the only gunbreed I would own and are on my "one day" list.
  6. I have Basset Fauve De Bretagne and I'm told that they are a lot like beagles and they sure seem to be very much like the ones I know. They are VERY, VERY scent driven and if you're going to live on acreage with one you will need VERY, VERY good fences. They are ridiculously intelligent but not always so obedient which leads people to consider them difficult - its working out what makes them tick!
  7. I haven't tested mine but I expect that they would be the same!
  8. A real life teddy-bear - this is Red from Anna's litter. Sadly we lost two of Marie's pups, two boys, but the remaining 5 are doing great and gaining well.
  9. I would love a new good quality trolley as mine was a cheapie and it is packing it in.
  10. Yes it is a lot of Fauves but there are some very happy puppy people who have been waiting for these litters :D not to mention me!!!
  11. Now the fun and games start..... another litter of 7, 3 girls and 4 boys.
  12. Sadly the agreed location has been the vet's surgery - she had two pups naturally (the first after an oxytocin shot at the vets at around 2pm today) but all her fussing about earlier has worn her out and she is currently at the vet having a c-section. I'm home sorting out all other dogs and getting some food ready for a long night. The first two pups were a boy & girl.
  13. She is very restless and doesn't like any of the "Trish approved" whelping spots
  14. Yeah they can be noisy little turds at night. And of course today Marie has decided that it is time for her to have her litter but she wants to have hers on my lounge.... argh...
  15. Was it a Fauve?? LOL Just remembered that we had to supply neutral photos for a survey earlier and think it might have been for this one  . I had a Cavalier and must confess that my answers were heavily biased towards my daughter's cavalier who lives with us presently and drives me insane
  16. LOL sadly no they end up looking like Fauves, though hopefully a fair number of these will look like my new boy, their father, who IMHO is stunning!
  17. Thought I'd share a photo of my little "Gift" litter - they're just so adorable and we're having a great time with them. They're now 10 days old.
  18. So sorry mollipop - there is something about finding them still warm but so obviously gone.
  19. Fauves have front dew claws and they should be left - they should never have rear dew claws. Interestingly, from a breed standard point of view, the FCI standard currently says that the presence of dew claws is a disqualifying fault. It is currently in the process of amendment as it is purely a translation issue and the French club has confirmed that it is only intended to refer to rear dew claws. The front dew claws have a different name over there (wolf claws I think ) and so when the standard was translated into English it didn't translate what was actually intended. Obviously it is a bit of process to amend it though
  20. She is about a week off and growing ever larger  . Fingers crossed she will free-whelp this time as she did last time.
  21. It was only EVER about the local area Jed so what doesn't cut the mustard????
  22. Wow that sounds like it has been a tough start Brintey. I've had a little girl who lost a bit of weight early on and has been slower than the others to gain but she has remained strong and active and today had a good gain, almost on a par with some of the others.
  23. Yet again proof IMO that the FB campaigns are just hoaxes scaring the crap out of people. I think people are getting quite a quick out of terrifying people. http://www.bordermail.com.au/story/1701297/ties-and-lies-no-truth-to-tales-of-dog-napping/?cs=53
