  1. I'm not a huge fan of black hawk as the quality dropped about a year or two ago, I also wouldn't feed the hills to any animal. Personal bias aside, the hills food does seem very legume heavy for its protein. This wouldn't be my ideal candidate for a dry food but it's not as horrid as their other foods. Meals for Mutts and Ivory Coat are two other super premium brands that have a poultry flavour that might be worth a look in. Something else to keep in mind is while a lot of us here do advocate for a high quality kibble, the food your dog's do best on, is the best food. Price does not always factor into that equation, sometimes they do better on a supermarket brand like VIP grainfree or sometimes it'll be the $120/8kg food..
  2. Just wanted to give a quick update as Dozer's now been back on the MfM for a bit over a week now. His coat is gleaming in the sun, his poos are so much smaller than when he was on VIP and he'll do anything for an extra piece of kibble. His teeth are looking very nice as well.
  3. I'm so suprised dozer has any fur left with the amount I've brushed off him in the past 48 hours! Get an amstaff they said, easy care coat, they said... The dog noodle shapes he twists himself into while getting brushed are hilarious, but his coat looks amazing now he's dropped most of his winter coat!
  4. Oh that's good to hear on the free shipping and afterpay! And the coats of everyone's dog. I had noticed her skins been a bit flaky lately, but I don't know if it's from the stay loyal/black hawk combo or something else. Maybe the MfM will shake that up and make her just a little bit softer! House.com.au's distribution centre is in Melbourne as well, it took about a week for the order to get to me, which isn't terrible when it had to go through Sunshine West distribution centre.
  5. We use the fish gluten free one for Dozer and have just passed a zip lock baggie on to the in-laws fussy little scruffer who liked it yesterday but time will tell if she continues eating it. Dozer loves the stuff and his coat always looks great on it! We've started ordering MfM through House.com.au they have the treats as well and free shipping for over $100 and regularly have sales. I also love that I can use afterpay for the orders through them as well, but that's a whole other topic ;)
  6. Pk, congrats on task 13, you two are going so well, and graduating into the next class of nosework! How exciting!
  7. Dozer's been pretty much the same with his reactivity and noise sensitivity. I had the home phone plugged in (for once) and some random number called, and Dozer started crying when it rang the poor boy had no idea what it was and wasn't impressed with the volume. The boofa also got a bath yesterday and got a good brush down with his new Zoomgroom, he was so relaxed that he couldn't stand up anymore and plonked himself down on my knee. Such a cutie sometimes! He's also now super soft and snuggly. If he didn't hate bath time so much I'd wash him every month for how soft he is! I've also been doing some place training with him to stay out of the kitchen while I'm cooking and he now lays down at the border of the kitchen and lounge room and watches me cooking, safely out of the way even when there's cheese, bananas or peanut butter in the kitchen Those are his favourite (safe)foods too! I'm quite proud of him for that as it only took a couple of days to convince him that he gets the good stuff when he's in his spot and he won't even walk through the kitchen to get to his spot, going around through the hall as an added bonus! Eta: giving dozer another brush this morning, and when I stopped he reached across with his paw and tapped my leg, which I took as a "hey, don't stop!"
  8. We live near the factory for VIP pet food, and have notice in the last couple of months that it's been rebranded to Real Pet food as well..
  9. My local woolies still had Applaws, but I managed to have a quick peak at the Farmers Market kibble, and I wasn't terribly impressed by the content, listing whole grains (from memory) about the third or fourth ingredient. Poor Mr TC was so confused, as Dozer can't have grains, beef, lamb or chicken based kibble (bloody blue dogs) and he couldn't understand why I wanted to have a look at the ingredients.
  10. Are Bull Terriers included in this 'Pit Bull' umbrella term and do they then also get caught up in some of this terrible BSL? Yes, definitely. My friend has a mini bull terrier who has been called a pit bull and it seems to be a common experience from what I read online from other bully owners. I hear a lot of stories about people being more afraid of bull terriers than they are of staffy type dogs. That said, I love them all! Staffordshire Bull Terriers, a well bred amstaff and mini and standard bull terriers, they're all great!
  11. Oh, he's beautiful Perse!! I can imagine him being a fantastic heater in winter, you'd just need a king size bed
  12. The lurcher we used to have, Lucy loved training and was so receptive to learning new things. Training her was a joy for both of us. Dozer, our amstaff couldn't really give a damn about training. Sure he learns new things every now and again, (currently training him to stay the hell out of the kitchen while I'm cooking) but he's really just there for the treats and makes his "what's in it for me" additude well known.
  13. Dozer and I both love a good snuggle on a rainy day. And we're both blanket hogs... I was chilling in bed this afternoon and Dozer started headbutting me until I lifted up the blanket for him
  14. Good news for Theo! I love Qld Police Facebook page.... they have a wicked sense of humour. :) Like this bit they added...a poster was talking about the officer: Jen Davenport: Eye candy wish they all looked like him. Queensland Police Service: No need to wish Jen, most black Labradors do look like him. Oh great result for Theo! I do enjoy the Queensland Police media team's sense of humour, this time is no exception!
  15. I'm dreaming of a few dogs in my future; Brittany (will probably be my next dog) Greyhound Aussie Shepherd Staffordshire Bull Terrier (a small, well bred bitch) Rottweiler Whippet Saluki Hubby's wishlist; Bull terrier (mini or standard) Italian greyhound I'd also love another lurcher like our old dog Lucy, who was a grey X bullbreed. Eta: adding German Pinschers to my list. They're gorgeous!
  16. Dozer is always restrained for new visitors, kids or tradies.. He's a big dog who doesn't know his own strength and looks quite scary. Added to that is he likes to "talk" to people and that alone can be quite scary if you don't know how to interpret his barks. He's pretty friendly though, but in the past if we're not home he has let meter readers into the yard of one of our old houses (a neighbor told us about that, I was surprised!), but if we're home he barks and carries on like the most ferocious terror until the person is invited into the house and then he just wants cuddles. We're pretty lucky in that we have a fully fenced patio area where we can lock dozer in the yard or confined to the patio. It does come in handy for tradies and the like.
  17. Dozer doesn't get water in his crate, he has pretty much free access to water all day. In summer if it's really hot I'll set up a water station inside on the tiles for night time, but for the most part he doesn't drink much at all after his dinner and doesn't need a pee after 6pm and holds on until the morning without complaint.
  18. I've heard of Apple cider vinegar being used for treating yeast infections, but never fleas.. I'd normally say, "If it's working for you that's great." But the name mercola rang some bells for some reason, and from quick look it seems like the website has been known to publish some subject matter of dubious validity. I'd personally be very concerned about the 1:1 ratio of ACV to water causing unnecessary discomfort for my pup.
  19. Dozer (amstaff) regularly gets mistaken for a Mastiff.. He's got a dark mask so I can understand that part, but he's less than half the size of a Mastiff...
  20. I'm so sorry Boronia, Mr TC also sends his condolences.
  21. Gabapentin makes me eat everything in sight apparently that's a normal reaction!
  22. How is Malcolm doing on his gabapentin PK? I just took my morning dose of it and it reminded me to ask :Rolf: I think Malcolm and I started it around the same time.
  23. We have a gulper, but the best advice we had was to do away with the food bowl if you're feeding kibble. We either use a Kong wobbler with a tennis ball inside to slow down the rate the food falls out or I throw his food all over the yard and make him work for it!
  24. We've had: Seraph (cat) Dozer, aka Dozey (amstaff) Lucy aka, loulou and little lou (bull Arab originally named Spyder as per her microchip) I'm also fond of: Retcon Dempsy Corvo Ollie
