Do you have your adoption agreements / and or websites available in different languages ? I was thinking today as sometimes people who don"t speak fluent english often bring someone to help ...These days just about everything is available in something other than english all I remember at school was french and german :D

I just heard a story from a lady who said she adopted a rescue small dog however later (2 weeks later) after a routine vet visit the vet said the dog had major hip/leg problems .She was really gilling me about a dog I have in my care and everything I knew about him --But explained why and how she was really upset at what had happened with the other dog .the dogs knees were slipping in and out other stuff I can"t remember (she returned the dog ) so she said this time she really wanted to ask alot of questions before going ahead with an adoption enquiry --Fair enough I didn"t mind :) The lady said she wasn"t informed of any medical conditions when adopting the dog .Yet when she contacted the rescue and gave them the vet report the rescue said they had infact informed her . I know Im only hearing this story from one side but I then thought it could happen to anyone and go both ways .Im assuming the adoption contract is a legal doc and anything written in it therefore by signing it both parties agree etc (Im only the carer all forms legal stuff etc is done by rescuer) so ifs its a standard contract not based on individual dogs then would that mean a case of he said she said and the outcome either common sense or dare I say a full blown little guy misses out situation (I edited it as a reread made it sound funny the first dog wasn"t from me but another group )

trying to exert authority be bigger stronger and more like a bully ? Im not sure how to explain it in dog terms just that she has changed she isn"t aggressive but could be if she wanted too I don"t want to give you the wrong idea and portray her as a monster but Its like now after all these years she has gotten a big dose of self confidence and understands that she is a big girl and doesn"t need to be a push over --- She hasn"t killed anything has no issues with cats the ducks or the rabbits but I guess its a personal thing because we know her so well we noticed the changes ..even though they just seem to be a personality thing I thought maybe she just needed someone to be there with her that was matched to her like how it was before because of her size when she plays with the other dogs a slight bump could hurt them and when she"s all happy and boucey they get uppity and snap at her then they don"t want to play anymore is it possible she is craving a play mate more suitable to her ?

We own an ex pound dog abuse case age unknown she is grey in the muzzel and we"ve had her for a few years.She has always been dog social but people wary .She plays with our little dogs but they sleep inside she sleeps outside on the back deck. Very horse like long legs loves to run yet will roll over and play gently with small dogs BUT since she lost her best friend she is alpha dog and to be blunt has become rather bitchie . She loves to play with dogs her own size when we are out but due to her fear of people she is always on the lookout ...And being a tall long legged dog when she runs all goofy like people take her the wrong way ... I don"t want her to be the top dog of the house (even though We are ) I don"t want to own another big dog since losing my dog Im still hurting would you suggest maybe fostering large adult dogs or taking her to get professional help? This started slowly a few weeks ago but we noticed and want to nip it in the butt before she goes too far ....... We used to foster adult large dogs a few years back but at that stage having owned 2 dogs 40kgs plus we thought it best not to over do it

yes I did this the first time she asked about a dog I met her dog and the couple they were always worried about this and that but to be polite I did what I would for anyone .They are themselves an older couple and Ive explained the workings of rescue ....They are nice people just have their beliefs on why and how . Im always polite to people and factual and till now she has been understanding the last dog she enquired about decided against because I couldn"t give her a 100% that HER dog would be happy so she said she would stick to one dog thanked me for answering her questions so honesty I thought I wouldn"t hear from her again... I think after the last line I won"t bother about giving her so much of my time and tell her as before the application is the same :) ---------

I have in my care a wonderful 9 year old dog (poodle) he is wonderful calm laid back dog social yet still very playful. He is available for adoption and Ive done his photos a video etc . He is in good health teeth done .. Anyway I recieved an e-mail . she writes ...he is very old dog but the main problem is (their dogs name ), he is my baby and would hate to upset him, is there any interest in him from anyone? thanks (name removed for privacy) is he a passive dog like my ( name removed ) was? can you please tell me if he is a passive calm dog the poodle? really is there anyone else interested in him? what will happen to him if no one wants him? if we take him we should not be paying anything as he is a big responsibility. OK I admit I was seeing red I happen to also see where people are coming from when they see the adoption fee of an older dog but its the wording that saw me piping hot this person has been a follower of the rescue for a while and often called to ask about a certain dog Ive always been polite answered her questions .Hubby says don"t even respond just delete it but I was wondering do you respond with justifing why there is an adoption fee ? send a polite email saying thankyou for your interest but ???? or simply hit delete

Ive never owned a pure bred .Not that I haven"t wanted to deciding which one was too hard finding where to go 20 years back wasn"t as easy to find as now. I say 20 years back because thats when we started looking since then others have come into our lives . Every now and then we go to the dog beach there seems to be more pure breds there than I see simply walking (with owners) in the street. Lately Ive seen a large number of poodles. Do you find dog breeds come and go with the times? I recall in the 80"s seeing more Rotties .Now I see more x breeds in the street more pure breds at off leash areas . Im sure lifestyle has alot to do with it also so I was wondering what breeds are seen more often in certain areas ? Have you ever thought about it or taken notice of the dog breeds around you ? Im minding a schnauzer at the moment a dog breed Ive always liked but never really see around my area

Ive even offered they adopt ME! some home checks make me go home and want to re- arrange everything .Ive picked up some landscaping ideas alnog the way :D I guess it goes both ways for would be adopters come to my house too. I have nothing to be ashamed of but Im sure not everyone would think my place is the ritz either but the grass is always mowed my gardens look like they should my fences are all colourbond but there are dog toys around teenagers coming and going and of course at any time my neighbours could be out looking or the couple across the road arguing again -- During the course of communcation before adoption we run through the what will happen should everything go to plan so there are no suprises and if people don"t like it they have the right to refuse (I mean that in a nice way)

mine isn"t so much my dogs but me :D for some reason I put people off I own 5 dogs plus foster so we just hang in a place all to ourselves .Im sorry this is happening and I really don"t have any answers .One of our pound dogs a dane is super friendly with other dogs but afraid of people so to save her from becoming a total mess in public we have to choose our spots early morning later arvo work best limited amount of people . I really wish I had an answer But at least you get to enjoy love and play with your dog and I bet she loves that most :D

While the only sydney pound Ive ever been to is Blacktown my thoughts for writing this were based on my impressions from there .......... Martha and husband Stu decide they will adopt a little dog from the pound. After visting they choose a little scruffy .As they live alone now with kids grown up and Grandkids visit now and then they aren"t too worried and believe they will cross that bridge when they come to it. The Brady family also decide they want to adopt a family dog and are also at the pound. They decide on a med young x breed .But are concerned about issues as they have 3 kids Are there people who test the dogs available for adoption.? If so are they qualified to do so? I found when I was there (on more than one occ) the staff weren"t as knowledgeable about each dog and offered very common sense based advice .Not their fault I don"t blame them and think most of them do a great job. Now not everyone is aware of Rescue ( or limited knowledge ) (so based on the notion they don"t ) Where would someone concerned about a dog but eager to still adopt him go for help? Im sure most people would turn to the internet and maybe read up about what to look for BUT is there a contact list of real people who could help? or maybe work within the pound who have more to do with the dogs? I know there are volunteers who work more closely with the dogs but I don"t expect their personal details to be available . So if the pound staff don"t know does anyone wishing to adopt simply take the chance maybe bring someone with them to help or can they call ?????????? I realise this is a lot of questions and of course it would be based on dog by dog situation as to what someone may want to know but I can"t help but think this maybe a question alot of people have thought about . And in saying that they adopt from rescue so as not to worry about issues but does that mean more dogs miss out ? I know rescue can"t take them all and good ones are still left behind .... Over the years I have adopted straight from the pound and have had 3 awesome dogs but also a not so good one who looking back on what we went through shouldn"t have been for sale but we took the risk tried our best ( spent alot hired alot of help ) but in the end it wasn"t enough

Im sure this topic may have been done a thousand times. Talking with alot of dog owners over the years many of whom are around 40 .Its funny how there are so many people who owned a pittbull.I don"t mean a cross breed but an actual Pitty . Were there alot in Australia ? what happened to them all ? .I know they are still here and while Im guessing most are a x and those who know the law maybe keeping them under the radar . However I just thought it was interesting to come across such a variety of people who owned one and of all the breeds people mention pitbull comes up alot as their dog of the past they love to talk about and with such love for the dog . ***In case you are wondering why so many people talk freely with me ..Im a foster carer and meet greets and chatting with people is a big part .People often love talking about their pets and when they come to adopt alot of times they are reminded about their past dog by something they see another dog do so are happy and willing to share :)
