Early Desexing - Warning To Breeders
peibe replied to morgan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
OK, I apologise for my outburst against registered breeders, but I am meeting far to many through rescue work, that will not take a dog back they breed, or will not even help me rehome a dog they breed, it shits me This thread is about early desexing, and while I will keep saying I do not like it, I do it as I see no alternative And sorry to correct you Morgan but I have only ever had one dog back, and that was due to being lied too, and the only time I did not 100% trust my gut -

Jacq I love you, you managed to say exactly what I wanted to,cheers If Registered Breeders interviewed their new prospective owners as well as rescue there would be far less pups out there -
My own dogs have a fast day every 7-10 days, never the rescue dogs though

I am not questioning the morals of breeders on DOL, I have found there to be a difference But it appears to be a difference in the rescue to breeder point of view on early desexing I do not like it but cannot see a way around it financially or trusting someone to desex their pup later, especially since the pups can often go interstate No the topic was not about early desexing but about a breeder etc, it has gone off topic though -

I think sterilistaion would be a harder procedure for a vet to perform, most will not do it and will only desex, so there is no option It is hard enough trying to inform some people who want to adopt a rescue dog why it is desexed so young, trying to then tell them a dog is sterilised would be a nightmare I do not like having to desex baby puppies but without a vet who will offer another option cheap what choice is there? Rescue cannot fund a $250 sterilisaton operation when desexing is available for $100 -

I did not think you did rescue then you would not be sitting on your high horse dictating on what you feel is right Rescue do not have the resources or finances to do what you propose, we pick up the discarded dogs that their breeders (and a hell of alot of BYB purebreeds recently) now where did these dogs come from? Registered Breeder who did not desex or sterilise, but sold for profit Are you going to donate the money needed to fund this sterilisation campaign that you feel is so necessary? Who will, as rescue is now we have no choice but to desex I wish all breeders felt the same -
Sounds like you need a new vet Lamanna Desexing should not be as hard as you described Goodluck

Skipy do you rescue????funny how no one is answering the question, or are you and the other that are against early desexing also x breed haters?? Yes the idiot who let his bitch have a litter is responsible, but it is far easier to desex the dogs than educate the fools -

Sorry cannot agree with you on that one There is a big difference between BSL and early desexing, please note though I am totally against BSL and do what I can for the dogs affected BSL is not the topic of discussion, it has nothing to do with early desexing and I am sorry but not all people who let their bitch have a litter is a drop kick, some are yes. But alot that call up have accidental matings, and when you inform them of the numbers of dogs PTS every year they are horrified and guilty. They get the bitch desexed straight away Desexing is the only way that I can see a way of making a difference. -
So sorry Ibite Run free of pain now Sox

Give my condolense the Olga, I am sorry RIP Maggie, may you run free

:p ;) Yep, rescue is going to pay for sterilisation, then get someone to adopt the dog to then have to pay for desexing when it could of been done in the first place ;) Come and live on the rescues side of the fence, walking past the rows and rows of puppies and dogs and knowing that you have no room for any of them Believe what you like but the only way to stop the over populaiton of dogs in AUS is early desexing, simple -

Morgan do you rescue? I just had my 5 month old pup desexed, he is acting like it never happened When my 3 year old bitch got desexed she was sick for a week The younger they are the quicker they bounce back. In the rescue work I do I have only ever had a problem with older bitches being desexed, never young ones Thanks for the laugh Jacq, I agree -

So sorry to hear Raf is worse Goodluck at the vet and I hope you get to the bottom of this Have you spoken to Raf's breeder? There might be something hereditary or some advise they can give, or they could just be a shoulder to cry on Let me know if there is anything I can do to help -

I cannot believe this I wish all registered breeder would desex their pet quality pups before rehoming. Once again she did the right thing The bitch cannot be used to breed from, no unwanted Akita or Akita x in pounds for rescue to try and rehome Sad for the pup but she is one of thousands that do not have problems -

I can understand where you are coming from, and I realise just how bad this is for the puppy But if all puppies where desexed before rehoming it would stop alot of dogs being PTS I do not like desexing puppies that young, 16 weeks to me is the youngest a pup should be done and there is no way I would buy a 8 week old desexed pup. Just my preference This case is an exception though, far more successes I think -

I think the breeder was being responsible and I wish more would follow in her footsteps I just think that maybe the vet should of been more experienced Poor puppy though, is there anything they can do to help her? -
Otto was desexed yesterday, he is 5 months He came home alittle wobbly and got a good licking from Jewel (my Shar Pei girl) who is his mother hen and had been crying for him all day He curled up in front of the heater for an hour, ate dinner and then started to play zoomies and wanted to go for a walk at 7.00. You would not know he got desexed that day The younger and healthier they are when they get desexed the easier, and faster they recover. Females are normally more sore than the males, obviously different operation She will be fine

I cannot feed my Shar Pei girl rice, it makes her fat, gives her extremely bad gas and slightly runny poops Grass often comes through my 2 whole they do not break it down What about giving him the Turkey plain, no rice? Never used potatoes so cannot say. When Zephyr went on his elimination diet the vet told me to feed him chicken and rice for 1 month, nothing else and then try other foods as it can take a month to clear their insides out Glad the elevating his food bowl worked, thats great 13 months is a bad time for male pei, my boys problem intensified at that age, is Raf desexed? Zeph was and it made no difference. Coat sounds fine Little by little you are getting somewhere I had a rescue pup that had constant runny poops, yogurt cleared it up?? -

How old is Raf? The last shed if it went for a long time would be his puppy coat falling out to be replaced by his adult coat Pei normally only shed twice a year, but is is a good shed lol If the shed was even no patches missing I would say it is normal Still not sure about the grass, could be eating because he is sick or eating and it makes him sick, hard one -

Do you feed him on the ground or elevated on a stool? My girls eyes water if she is feed on the ground, but if I put her bowl up so she does not bend over her eyes are fine Lamb is fatty and always makes her eyes run, lamb makes my boys poos gross Have you thought that maybe it is grass? and not food at all? I had a Shar Pei Sasha about 8 months ago and she had to be kept on cement because when she ate grass she vomited and got the runs This must be so hard trying to work out what is wrong with him Are the pads of his feet red? Actually between the pads? This will give you an indication of grass allergy. ETA forgot to add, Pei graze like cows and eat far more grass than any dog I have ever meet. If he had a sore tummy, he would of eaten the grass to make himself sick, most dogs do this. The poo could be because his tummy was sore before he ate the grass ???does that make sense?? -
RIP pretty boy and all the others who through human neglect got their wings this week, may you all run free together
