Drewe - Olly's Box

Great idea! We could possibly offer a "premium" box and a cheaper alternative. We've got a lot coming up in the new year, as we received a lot of great suggestions from people who stopped by our stall at the Sydney Dog Lovers Show, so this will be another on our list of things to do :) Thanks for the suggestion! Issue with these cheaper toys is that they will more than likely come from China and will probably contain toxic materials i.e. bisphenol-A (BPA) and phtalates and vinyl/PVC. This is not to say more expensive dog toys will not contain toxic materials, but more chance the cheaper ones will. I try to buy dog toys that are made from non toxic materials, but manufacturers do not make it easy to ascertain what type of materials are used in the manufacture of their dog toys. Normally the ones that are made from non toxic materials state this as a point of difference/selling point and I will always pay more for non toxic toys as having Labradors who love their toys and constantly carry them around in their mouths, I try to wherever possible seek out non toxic toys for my Labs and normally purchase these overseas. Maybe offer a "non toxic toy" box/parcel :) Also as I do virtually all my doggie shopping online and have done for quite a few years now, I prefer to know the postage costs and have them separated out from the cost of the items, so it doesn't cause confusion as to cost of product and therefore avoids the issue of people feeling they are being ripped off (when that is not the intention) as the "invisible postage cost" is being included in the total cost. Non-toxic toys are becoming more accessible nowadays, thankfully. We've supplied plenty of all natural rubber toys in the past :) We're not one for cheap and nasty toys, unless customers want a 'cheaper' option, but we'd opt for safer toys over cheaper toys any day, and we'd try and educate people as to why at the same time. Some of our previous goodies (inc. non-toxic rubber toys) can be found in our store, if you're on the hunt for something new. We advertise postage costs in our store, it's just a little hard to do so for our box service as it depends on the customer's location; we could state a postage range if need be. I was going to suggest you get an account with Fastways...but I see you are not happy with them. We use them to transport the Black Hawk Dog Food & have never had a problem. It certainly is a cheaper option to Australia Post. :) The east coast services seem okay, so far. We've had problems with deliveries from Brisbane to Perth - four parcels lost just last week.

Hi All, As mentioned by another user above, the products do retail for over $45. As we're not a large-volume buyer, we don't always receive savings from suppliers, although they do what they can and love seeing their products being sent to pups around the country. We only use Australia Post, and they charge a premium. We tried cheaper delivery options, such as Fastway, however seemed to misplace dog goodies (perhaps the courier drivers own dogs?). Constructive feedback is great, and we've certainly taken everything mentioned above not only to heart, but onboard. The two of us (yup, we're a very small company), or three if you include Olly, try hard to find unusual and exciting toys; we've used a lot of Tuffy toys in the past, and they've been loved by rough dogs. We also focus on sustainable products and support many small Australian businesses. FYI, a portion of every purchase is donated to our partner rescues; Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, SA Dog Rescue, Desperate for Love Dog Pound Rescue Inc. & Desperate for Love Dog Pound Rescue Inc :) Cheers, Drewe

Hi Alyson, As per my email, I'm very sorry to read of your disappointment. Christmas stock is always very expensive and hard to come by. The value in the box is more than $45, considering delivery and other supplies that go in to the box. I can honestly say that we do not have an exorbitant mark up on anything we sell, we're an honest small business who do this purely for our love of dogs; we just want to help make dogs and their parents happy and healthy. We take customer feedback to heart, and will most definitely take note of your feedback. I'm pleased to say that the feedback we've received to date has been positive, therefore we've continued doing what we've been doing; that said, it looks like there's some room for improvement with our Christmas offering. Toys that last 5 minutes sure are a waste of time/money. We've tested a lot of toys with Olly as he has grown up and it can be a hit/miss at times - there are some really great manufacturers and toys out there though. It does pay to stay away from the cheaper toys.

Hi silentchild, Each box is slightly different, and we really do work with customers to match their dogs likes/dislikes, size and personality. We have customers with rough dogs who love 'death-shaking' their toys, for these customers we have, in the past, sourced tough toys from companies such as Aussie Dog, Gummi Pet, and Kyjen. Several customers have little dogs ("lap dogs" if you will) and have indicated they like soft and chewy toys, for these dogs we have provided toys from JW Pet (as they are chewy and taste/smell great!!) as well as toys from Hamish McBeth and Haute Diggity Dog. Treats wise, we're working with several small dog-bakeries - macaroons, unique flavoured cookies, carob bars, etc. I like your idea of a CleanRun box, LOL! Drewe

Hi! Well said, and I totally agree. I wouldn't want to be paying 5 times the price for anything, or more for items that I can buy at Woolies/Coles. We've actually changed our product offering since our website was created, and really do need to update our photos; I'll be taking care of this ASAP :) Drewe

Good morning, We've also heard reports of poor quality / inexpensive toys being included in some subscription services. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and knowing what dogs and their owners want; we put a lot of time and effort in to source only quality and unique toys and treats.
