Got A Nasty Scare Last Night
Aleksandra 157 replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
So glad Josie is OK.,just watch she doesn't start singing.(bad joke).Often if lulu has tummy problems after eating Jesses food I put her over my shoulder like a baby and rub her back, seems to work.Benefit of her being so tiny....Jesses another story! :) -

Advice Needed - Incident With My Labrador
Aleksandra 157 replied to Georgina Ebony's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have never and would never take my dogs to a dog park.I feel very sorry for Georgina,a terrible situation for you....I can relate to how you must feel.I have a reactive collie, large male and a very small Japanese Spitz. The collie I have had since 8weeks,he's never been in any bad situations, just does not like people or dogs outside of our family!I have now accepted the fact he can never go off lead in a public situation.I am fortunate we have a large property, and he gets so much exercise. My little girl Lulu is very friendly but one shake from a large dog could kill her...crazy to take the chance!I very much agree with all of HWs comments, and think sometimes we persevere with activities that can be dangerous to other dogs, or children ,when there are many things we can do besides dog parks etc.Even using a trainer, which I thoroughly recommend,as responsible dog owners we all need to remember many things can trigger a dog to act out of character ,with tragic results! -
Best Mate Attacks After Jesse Is Neutered
Aleksandra 157 replied to Aleksandra 157's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you so much for your reply! I also am thinking now something happened to Teddy before we arrived,as he has not been himself since the incident.Excellent advice for the reintroduction thank you. :) -
Still Crazy After All These Years
Aleksandra 157 replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it is a beautiful tribute to Casper! He has a wonderful owner ! There will always be a very special place in my heart for my dogs that have already passed. At present I have two reasonably young dogs, but as they age they become even more special.I hope he will be with you for a long time yet :) :) -
Jesse (my 13month rough collie) was neutered 3weeks ago.His best mate ,Teddy,my sisters standard poodle and he are only 2weeks apart in age and have loved playing together since small puppies.Sunday we were all at a car show, big day for Jesse as he's still quite timid and there were a lot of people. He behaved really well,no reactivity,So pleased about that!We were all shocked when we met.Teddy (until tomorrow, unneutered )and he lunged, snarled and started to attack Jesse.Fortunately they were on short leads and no physical harm was done.Teddy was put in the car and remained head down and seemed to realize what he'd done.Jesse was puzzled and quiet ,still is.I would so appreciate any advice, comments,on whether this aggression will continue after Ted is neutered tomorrow, and what would be the best way to reintroduce them,so no long term affects spoil their friendship. Thanks so much

Just wanted to thank everybody on here for their help ,encouragement and support,as Jesse and I got through our first year together. At times I was a wreck,Jesse running the fences, pulling me over, terrifying visitors, however we came through!Obviously a work in progress, but he is so very much quieter, obedient and affectionate ,although he still doesn't like visitors. If he doesn't settle I just put him outside around the back of the house.where he has a large pen.Again, many thanks to all who helped me so much, and I hope you have a wonderful festive season! :)

Just wanted to comment on the photos above, what fantastic training!!Amazing Kirislin, just shows what can be done with time ,love and patience! :)

Changed my opinion, after your latest post. I think you should call the breeder asap, not in a few days as I suggested earlier! Like Persphone, agree all animals and birds are separated :)
-
I truly feel for you as it's so easy to make a decision without thinking of some of the negative consequences!Try not to rush into anything, but think it may be best to take a few days to think about what is best for you,the puppy, and your other pets.I'm sure the breeder would want you to contact her,she may be able to help you.Try not to panic, and good luck! :)

Our Miah Turned 1 Today! (27th Nov 2013)

Happy Birthday ,Miah,Gorgeous Girl -
In answer to Fluff1234,we keep these two separate when we are out because of the size, age and development difference .What is playing to Jesse could soon really hurt Lu.Our last two were always together,Samoyd and Keeshond ,as they were more the one age and size.I think the benefits of having two dogs(if your circumstances allow) outweigh the drawbacks. To me,litter mates are ideal if possible. :)

I have always had two dogs, and it has always worked beautifully.I always have one male, one female. As others have said a lot of time must be put in ,especially in the early months. At present I have a female Japanese Spitz,4yrs old and 10 inches tall.We also have a collie 11months old male.We were a little concerned about the size difference ,but it has worked out so well.Jesse was crate trained from 8weeks so Lulu could have peace when he was too boisterous ,and we never leave together if we are occasionally out.,always mindful play could get out of hand and Jesse could accidentally hurt Lu.I think with common sense,a lot of work and training it is beneficial to both dogs.Ours are always together, both have time and attention alone with us,Lulu sleeps in our room as she always has Jesse is not allowed in there. My previous two dogs were a Keeshond and a JSpitz( now passed on) and they were great mates...Good Luck :)

I didn't realize that,Paddleduck,as my.dogs have always eaten it in the past.I rang the vet after I read your post and I can take it back tomorrow for a refund! Thank you so much
-
Yes you are so right!Jesse Is doing a great job of training me!!!!In the last couple of days I have fed him only once daily and he's finished it.Tried him about 9am..again at 1pm but about 4 he started looking for it and finished the whole lot.I'm thinking now he may prefer only one feed.I have always fed my dogs twice daily as I feel it's better for them, but maybe I change.Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply.I will try to put a photo up.All of your dogs are so gorgeous! :)

Thank you Aliwake,I think you are right on both.No use buying it if he won't eat it!He is a rough collie. Can I ask what type of Royal Canin you use as labs and collies are around the same size and I think they would have similar nutritional needs, :)

About 6weeks ago Jesse had a bout of diarrhea and was off his food.Very unusual..I took him straight to my vet as he had been boarding for a few days. His weight was down a little which was probably fretting as he did not eat much while there.Vet suggested Eukanuba I D .Jesse hated it and would only eat optimum puppy, plus some canned as well.Back for a check up two weeks later weight unchanged.I should have said earlier all his organs etc seemed fine, really healthy.Anyway vet suggested I try Eukanuba performance brand. He hates this and won't touch it.,so were back on original diet as it's all he'll eat!As he's nearly a year old I would like him to be on a better diet.He is very active and the vet says he is better a bit lighter but I don't know why his eating patterns have changed so much .!from wolfing everything in sight to leaving food.Any ideas would be so appreciated.. :)

We have a lot of Bichons and oodles, and in larger dogs mainly staffies or x labs. Our rough collie and jap.spitz seem to be the only ones around :)
-
Very interesting replies. My keeshound was speyed when I got her at six months and Lulu my spitz I had done after her first season.Absolutely no problems with either dog,in this area.Jesse my 11month collie is to be neutered soon.I am hoping it will calm him down but have varying opinions from ...he'll be a different dog to ...it will make no difference to his behaviour. These from vet and professional trainer.Would really appreciate opinions on this.... :)

Just love all these photos! Very much like our place, dogs on one couch, husband and I on the other!!What happened to the Sat night out, either for a meal and movie or just going into the city .Now it's chips,TV, and on a good night chocolate. Not complaining as we are in our 60s and feel blessed to still be here ,both having had serious health issues.Hey,I never was a party girl and prefer the way it is now :)

great advice here thank you ,I will go ahead and buy one. :)
