Fred Lanting Usa - Brisbane Ekka 2014
Delaforce replied to Tarmons's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mr F Lanting (USA) judged GSD at the 1995 Adelaide Royal Show and we were lucky enough to be awarded Best Of Breed. He gave it to our first home bred bitch *Ch Delaforce Alvarado A Z (a breed surveyed class one bitch who was multi excellent graded ) (sorry for the brag) It was a thrill that day her second BOB at the Adelaide Royal (1993 & 1995). He watched them walk and then gait in the small ring that he had. He has written an article which has been placed in an old GSD Quaterly review. He often attends the seiger show in Germany so take a chance and give him a go. -
Hi Marlfoxx, The German Shepherd Dog Club of SA conduct show training classes on Wednesday nights starting at 7:30pm for puppies onwrds and also on Sunday mornings but not this Sunday as it is a long weekend. They concentrate more on the Specialist type of training which is pulling out on the end of the lead. As for All Breeds traing there is a person who advertises in the DogSA journal. All breeds ring are smaller and more control is needed. Hope this helps you out. The new finanical year for the GSDC of SA is just about to start so why not go down and have a look and a talk and someone down there may be able to help you out, if you like it join. There is a members competition coming up soon for you to look at if yo wish. Check out the web site you'll find it if you google German Shepherd Dog Club of SA. All the times for training are on the website. Hope this helps Cheers

Not actually answering all the questions but I am now on my second Grey. My first grey I got at 7 months of age from racing stock and as my husband and I were heavily involved in an obedience club she had no choice but to do obedience along with the border collie. Leah was never muzzled at obedience and slowly and surely we made it through the classes right up to trials standard. Sitting was slow as was the down position. Recall was at times unpredicable, most of the times she came straight in. Leah went in (back then) 3 preliminary trials and got the highest mark for on lead heel work, but obedience wasn't really her thing but being a couch potato was. She was the best pet, sadly l lost her at 11 yrs of age. (we were very trusting of Leah and there is a photo of her doing a drop stay on our web page with her border collie mate Ben AOC in the memories page.) Now we have a show greyhound very affectionate and at times rather stubbon. She is very playful at times but is always very close. www.delaforcekennels.com

Thankyou for that. Fidelis, you must be very very proud of your girl, CONGRATULATION and the best of luck in your future endeavours. My husband had a Border Collie that came from the farm and when we took him back for a visit straight out with the sheep he went and bought them all back to us. Pity there wasn't ANKC run herding trials back then. He did become and Australian Obedience Champion (made up of obedience and tracking - not separate disciplines then) Jesomil, No it wasn't other discplines (yard dogs etc) as when I checked out the link it was GSD related and a couple have HT and another a PT. Once again, thankyou all for your help

I have visited a web site and on its links page it advertisers another kennel as having "Herding Champions" Are there any "Herding champions" yet? For a relatively new discipline I didn't think any dogs would have reached that standard yet? Could someone please help thankyou

Funny Stories About Trialling Or Training.
Delaforce replied to Astro Boy 2's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This is a great thread. Well my OH use to trial a border collie that came off the farm. Ben was a bit of a boy, well he thought he was anyway. At one particular trial in Open, Ian threw the dumbell over the high jump at about this same time a competitor was walking past the top of the ring with her female GSD. On the command fetch, Ben took off with great enthusiam, over the jump past the dumbell, out of the ring, said "hi" to Inca the GSD the way all male dogs do nose under tail. At the direction of the judge Ian called Ben, he immediately turned around came back picking up the dumbell on the way, over the jump and a perfect sit in front. He then completed the finish and scored a bit fat 0. 2 weeks later Inca the GSD came into season! Then there was a utility trial, located in a semi rural area. The trials grounds were a large beautiful oval with no fence, across the road was a paddock with sheep (remember Ben is a farm bred BC) When we arived the sheep were directly opposite the Utility ring so heres hoping Ben is on after lunch & the sheep move. As the day wore on the sheep slowly moved down the paddock out of sight and everything looked good. Lunch break and still everything looks good, Bens time to go in the ring and yep you guessed it the sheep were back in sight. I decided to slowly move in a direction where I thought I might be needed. Ian is going through the exercises, seek back, speak on command, scent discrimination, then the send away and away he went, sheep in sight past the marker, out the ring and headed full bore to the sheep. To get to the sheep he had to cross a road where the speed limit was 80kph so that is why I had decided to move to a spot where I might be needed. As he had now left the ring I called him and he came to me hitting my legs in the process. Ian then called him and yeah back he went, on the command sit he sat and was directed over the jump which he did and yes another big fat 0. Unfortuanely our dear BEN is no longer with us but boy has he left us with some wonderful stories and the best laughs Ben went on to be an Australian Obedience Champion and back in those days is was made up of Obedience and Tracking titles -
Hi All, Just wondering what you all thought of the facilities for the Agility Nationals. I know there are a number of very tired GSD people who were down there for the 3 days. My husband still smells like a BBQ Were so pleased you all had a great time and the weather held out for you
