  1. A pet (being a dog without papers or only on limited register) can't be shown - if you want a dog to show then it MUST be on main register. I agree with Sandra - straight on to the relevant canine council. Oh yes, I know the difference on paper... but I guess I meant in the household. That would suck getting rid of your new baby just because you can't show them...?
  2. My partner and I have two pups... 6wks apart. They're currently 6.5mths and 5mths. I leave the house at 8am.... he leaves a bit earlier or later... he has his own trades business so is home for lunch or any time after 2pm depending I work. I get home at 6pm. They are exercised, fed well, taken to classes, sleep crated side by side, socialized and loved. They're a damn sight better well behaved than most toddlers we know! I seem to hate peoples generalisations more than what people think about us having two pups.
  3. Actually... Sansa is meant to have a soft toy from her litter. It's feral as anything and had the eyes removed and sewn shut. Wonder where it is? Smells of her mumma and siblings :)
  4. I would looooove to have the pups sleep on the bed all night... but at the moment Sansa is all legs and pushes me all over  plus they wake so early. AND theyre bed hogs! Infact Im about to make them go pee and they'll automatically go straight to their crates and wait
  5. You can have my pups papers if you like. Shes Mains registered and I dont plan to show or breed her. Shes a little red SBT though... might be a bit hard to convince the judges  Sorry... had to try a bit of humour. How does a show dog differ to a pet? Just curious.
  6. I was browsing Instagram yesterday and I saw a chick that I follow had a pic of her pups crate and in there was a bunch of soft toys... a couple hanging and no cover. Made me curious what people have in their crates. Just curious... theres no right or wrong reply. My two sleep side my side in covered crates. They're in a spare room. They have two comfy pillows each and their blankie. No toys. Only used for sleeping :)
  7. I was playing with the DLSR yesterday... trying to capture Sansa catching a treat... she might have been more successful if I could throw closer to her I had dozens of attempts... I got 1 successful shot of her catching... with her mouth closed!
  8. Besties sharing their rib bone yesterday - yes, this happened quite happily and then Saxon went to sleep... Im sure shes about to really put him in a head lock or something...
  9. Nah our mini schnauzer couldnt get to his stitches at all after being desexed.
  10. Thats a bit extreme isnt it? What if its not the OPs dog being the issue?
  11. Kong Cloud! It lasted 5 days till his SBT sister popped it! The big plastic collars were like a weapon!! We never realised how much he followed us about the house till he was butting us in the back of the calves with the silly thing!
  12. Oh this happens daily for us Daisy.Tea  The fur-kids just have a stupid amount of toys scattered about the back yard and only a limited amount inside. It's frustrating because inside Saxon just steal his little sisters toys. He hoards them in front and growls when she comes back to claim one. Typically we unfortunately (for her) take the toys off both for 10min or so then give them back. Some nights it works... Some nights it's a never ending cycle...
  13. It's the little sister SBT that's the Speed Eating Champion of our house. And she's quite happy to be led away after and sits quietly while he finishes. And he has never once tried to steal her meal food... Only bones/pigs ears He was desexed at 5mths I can see I'm now going to definitely change some ways I've been especially in rewarding, feeding and how OSoSwift corrects behaviors on the couch (and our bed)
  14. I know it won't stop your dogs distress (that I read in the other post) while driving... But I use these on the back seat of my car :) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/390620985006
  15. Is there any reason that you cannot totally separate them ..out of sight? You will find that this removes the stress from them both ..and they eat at their own pace happily ..then, once you pick up bowls and scraps .. they can be in a communal area again . personally , I think it is unfair to have competitive pups/dogs in sight of others while eating .... ;) Sure I can give that a go... Even though I dont see there to be any issues while they eat?
  16. Thanks Rebanne... see I thought my thinking made a little sense... there is method to my madness eh? :D I try the separation thing with pigs ears/bones... this just results in him sitting and stopping his bone/pigs ear and staring at her. Its pretty creepy how long he will sit there... With dinner though she is a gannet and inhales hers, so I am shaping her to take herself to go and sit in their area (other side of pet gate) till he is done. Up to 10min max is how long he gets his food. Queerly they are civil while eating breakfast and dinner
  17. Thanks heaps for all the (so far) great responses :D Dory your point by point answer was fantastic thanx He is 6 months - desexed Their trainer said to treat them as they would be treated in their pack. As dogs are in the end, pack animals Dominant pretty much exactly how minimax described her pug... takes her pigs ear/bone (even though he has one), takes toys, pulls her leash, lunges at her when she runs past, gets crabby at her when she tries to snuggle on him... he used to mount her A LOT but a lot of squirty bottle therapy has curbed that. They're still kept apart 50% of the day... separated by a pet gated 2.5m opening. We want to curb most dominant behaviours over the next 8 weeks so they can be outside in Summer :)
  18. Arvo :) We have two pups... 6wks apart. We love them loads and are generally not an issue. However our mini schnauzer is very dominant over his little SBT sister. We say he has little dog syndrome  infact he was dominant before she was on the scene. Do you treat an obviously alpha dog different? We try to greet him first verbally when we get Home We let him out of his crate first in the mornings We treat him first in "dual treat situations" And we put his bowl down first when feeding. Am I creating his alpha behaviour or helping it?
  19. Oh Odie! HAHA thats hilarious! :D
  20. At the very bottom of this link is one... http://www.pet-house.com.au/pets/wooden-kennels/brunswick-flat-roof-dog-house-range.html (I bought everything else BUT this as I have two small dogs) :D With my last large "barrel chested" dog, I just fed him on a cheap wooden stool I picked up from KMart
  21. Ill be interested in all replies to this... I currently have a 4.5mth old SBT bitch who is very submissive in play yet so so eager to meet people and dogs.
