How To Start A Fight At The Dog Park!
Lasareina replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
Glad your Ronin was ok! we had a similar thing happen at our park with a women throwing out pieces of sausage to the crowd of dogs in the park. There were probably about 8 dogs in the park including quite a few large breeds. I was flabbergasted that anyone could be so stupid. It was a pure miracle that a fight didn't break out there as well... the poor dog that actually belonged to the women was being alternately berated for "not sharing" and boasted about that it could 'handle itself' if there was an issue. We waited outside until that particular nut job had left! I was amazed that anyone could be that clueless... apparently she's not the only one! -
what a pretty boy! glad you got it sussed out. Brisbane is pretty damn cold at the moment! I have staffies with pretty thin coats, and my girl especially feels the cold. They sleep in the bed with us inside, and if we are away we block off the kitchen and pile blankets in there for them to burrow in. They also wear fleecy coats from about 6pm onwards. Luckily they haven't destroyed any blankets, although they are still definitely in the chewing age bracket. Beds on the other hand... lets just say i don't bother buying $80 city farmer ones anymore. the $5 jobs from kmart will have to do until they grow out of destructo mode :p

If you are feeding a good quality balanced diet why would you want to add anything to it ? I add in the multivitamin as peace of mind. Since we raw feed our own 'recipes', I want to make sure that we aren't accidentally missing anything. The last thing I would want would be to be unintentionally depriving the pups of some important mineral or vitamin through my attempts to feed a healthy, non processed diet.

So gorgeous! what a great camping trip ... our two have tried hopping in the kayak with us, but i guess that's not an option with Sumo! the boat is probably a better idea

not much experience in the breed, but I have pet sit one before. He was a lovely dog, but I was getting nearly a shopping bag's worth of hair from him when brushing him each day lol... that might make them think twice if they are not going to be all that dedicated to grooming etc.

For Dolers Who Run Their Own Small Business
Lasareina replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in General Dog Discussion
I find most of my leads come from my website. You can make a free one fairly easily on sites like wix or webs. When i first started the site i made sure to go to every pet related directory I could find and post a listing on there, with my website, so that I came up a lot higher in the google searches. I would love to do some training in SEO as i know I am not currently reaching my potential with google - using a professional SEO service is expensive! i also get a lot of leads from gumtree, which also directs to my website. Regarding GST / declaring tax- I recently spoke to an accountant about whether I should look at 'formalising' my business and start declaring tax etc. Most of my business is run on a cash basis so i haven't really looked at doing this until now when I am starting to get a bit busier. The accountant advised that with my current turnover, I could get away with just calling it a 'hobby' so i don't have to declare the income and pay extra tax. I don't know if this is borderline dodgy or not  but I'm happy to keep it simple so far! my pet sitting is just a sideline to my normal full time job so it's not really a lot of money that we are talking about. I would love to start selling pet products as well... mainly because i love to buy them and I'm always on the lookout for quality products which are also bargains :p I have some tags listed on my website which are the red dingo ones where they do the engraving and send direct to the customer. However I haven't really put any time into developing this side of it - there are a lot of other suppliers on the net selling the same thing. Unfortunately, I have very little I could spend on creating a quality inventory or I would love to get some of the wholesale products you can find on alibaba etc. The only thing I would worry about is quality of the products! If I was clever enough to be able to make my own products that would be cool... but i'm all thumbs and frustration when it comes to trying to sew etc haha I would love to one day be able to do pet sitting full time but i am a long way off yet! Good luck with your business English.Ivy :) -
there is a lure racing day on Sunday up here in Qld that I am thinking about going to... I had never really heard of it before so I would be a complete novice but I bet the pups would have a ball! I love the 3rd photo too... the focus on all the dogs faces is awesome! I'll try and take some photos if I go along on Sunday but I'm pretty sure my success rate would only be about 1% identifyable as a dog haha

I checked my bank and it looks like mine has gone up by 3 cents a few months ago, which seems consistent with when I would expect my renewal to be... phew! it's terrible that they can increase the cost so drastically for older pets and effectively hold people to ransom as they know they can't change insurers. You think they would show some kind of respect for customer loyalty, especially if you have had that particular animal insured from day one with that company

I'm getting worried about my insurance now ... Is anyone else with bow wow meow? I just blindly accept it coming off my card every month, it could have double without me even noticing :-/ ... Better go check my bank... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh this was great to stumble across ... Juno does this occasionally and it is very distressing. Luckily she only has very short episodes and seems unfazed once it is over, which has prevented full blown panic on my behalf lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

hmm I hadn't considered that ... I think that my boy Hunter has a grain allergy, and he doesn't react to it at all. I haven't had him tested or anything though, I am just basing that assumption on how his skin rashes cleared up once we put him on a grain free kibble. We have since moved to a BARF diet which keeps him trouble free also.

ooh that does look interesting Yonjuro. I am just about to get some K9 showstopper ... I have been tossing it up for ages not always go back to the VAN because it is cheaper lol... interested to see if it makes any difference. ETA I use the Natural Animals Omega Oils in the same brand... Seems like a good product, and i like that it balances the various different omegas as I am sure I would get it wrong if I tried to do it myself

Pocket Pits: The Latest X-breed Fad In The Us
Lasareina replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
[quote name='sandgrubber' timestamp='1395445123' post=' I hope Oz is able to avoid some equivalent sickness. Somehow I can't see a 'pocket staffie' catching on. I agree that it's not a great idea to be introducing a new "pocket Pitt" or mini staffy breed but I think there would actually be high demand amongst the general public. Heck, when I compare how much room little Juno takes up in bed compared to the humongous Hunter I could almost be swayed haha not to mention how much he weighs in comparison when he's sitting on my lap /kidney watching tv :p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Public Liability Insurance
Lasareina replied to JRT RESCUE's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
For my pet sitting business I use Premier Pets - www.premierpets.com.au At the time I was looking they were the only ones I could find that were suitable for me ... not sure about it covering fundraising events etc but if you talk to the brokers I think they just add in different clauses etc to cover different scenarios. -
O M G! Calendula Tea Rinse
Lasareina replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
the dog's have been pretty good since I bought my tea with no rashes etc popping up (typical, once i had found something that might help  ) so i haven't really had a need to use it. However, Hunter has developed little bumps on his head, which have spread over the course of a couple of days down his neck and onto his back. So now i get a chance to put it to good use! I have started using the sauce bottle idea mentioned a little while ago and it certainly seems to be the easiest way to apply it. :) I'm not sure what has caused this latest issue - diet and everything is the same and Hunter has been good since we changed over to raw. We thought it might have been sand fly bites as we were at the creek last weekend right before the bumps started to show up, but new bumps have come up since then so i don't think that's it. Must be something seasonal in the garden i think I will continue to rinse with the calendula and let you all know how I go :) -
Lost Staffordshire Terrier Puppy Makes It Home
Lasareina replied to Lasareina's topic in In The News
good to see that all those posts about missing pets I share on facebook might actually have some effect one day lol -
Link to story Lost Staffordshire Terrier puppy returned to Alice Springs after 700km South Australian outback adventure By Robert Herrick and staff A seven-month-old Staffordshire Terrier pup is back with her owners after an epic adventure deep into the South Australian outback. The puppy, named Malibue, went missing on February 4 from her owner's home in Alice Springs. Over the next 24 days, she somehow made her way 700km south, through Amoonguna and onto Amata, an Indigenous community in South Australia near the border. Owner Brenton Chambers believes she may have jumped into a stranger's car. He says a Facebook campaign - with dozens of people sharing Malibue's photo - made all the difference in bringing her home. In a stroke of luck, tradesmen travelling to the community spotted her and raised the alarm. "The workers were out at Amoonguna and spotted a dog that looked unusual, took a photo and sent me the pictures," Mr Chambers said. "The police did awesome work. My mum, Jackie, Belinda, everyone who contributed - it's just awesome work getting my little flea bag back." Mr Chambers says Malibue is a friendly animal who likes to get into cars. "She just goes with the flow - it's a good trait that she just bounces off things, shakes it off," he said. "But it's also a bad thing, just jumping in people's cars. I don't think she realises what she's done." Mr Chambers's mother Gaynor Chambers said her son was "devastated" to have lost his best friend but pleased to have her back. She thanked police in the Northern Territory and in South Australia in a post on Facebook. Thank you NT Police and SA Police for such a great result in her search and rescue. How cute is that photo, hope she gets her own little police hat. I did not think for one second the effect this little girl would have on our town when we purchased her, I thought she would just be a part of our lives not everyone else's. Well done, Malibue, if you wanted attention sweetheart you certainly got that! NT Police say they have never had such a huge response on social media to an investigation. They say the discovery of Malibue in South Australia highlights the effectiveness of cross-border relations between the forces.

Didi looks like a sweetheart :) What a beautiful girl ... she is looking more Great Daney as she gets older to me. I thought she must have had staffy in her when I saw the first few pics because her face looked quite similar to my Juno.
