I agree Staffyluv ... I have absolutely no qualms about my girl in the dog park, she is always the friendliest dog there. My boy is another story, and he stays outside with me. Don't think it is helpful or accurate to generalise an entire breed.

Thanks Melzawelza ... Very interesting article. I wonder if Juno will move more towards the dog tolerant spectrum as she gets older ... She's settled down quite a bit but still shows that puppy eagerness to have everybody love her so I wonder if this will continue as she gets older. I wish I had more expertise to help Hunter become more tolerant ... I feel sorry for him when Juno gets to run around with doggy friends and he has to stay with me outside the park. Luckily he is obsessed with chasing his ball, Frizbi etc so that keeps him happy while Juno is socializing. :)

I have two staffordshire terriers ... One is extremely good with other dogs - I would put her on the dog social end of the scale above. My male is the opposite ... He can't be let out in the dog park for instance. I think he mainly reacts out of anxiety instead of aggression, and put it down largely to how we socialised him as a puppy... I think we would go about it completely differently next time now that we have more experience. That being said ... Both Hunter and Juno were socialised in the same way and reacted completely differently. Hunter is dedicated to Juno and they get along perfectly 99% of the time. Sometimes Juno has to put her foot down when he gets overbearing, and this usually results in a bit of noise, and then Hunter slinking around with his tail between his legs avoiding her for half an hour before the go back to normal. I can see that if there was a big size difference this could be a more worrying situation, especially if the smaller dog decided he was going to be boss over a younger but bigger dog. Hunter gets along with maybe 3 other dogs he has met, mostly breeds like golden retrievers that he doesn't seem to find threatening. He also is fine with mums female dog. I think he would be fine with mums male dog as well except that Ninja does not like him and tries to bail him up every time we are there. In this one case Hunter acts super submissively rather than aggressively when anxious or threatened but we still need to closely supervise or seperate if old ninja is in a mood. Juno flops straight on her back and then will run around like a crazy dog with any dog she meets. Two completely different dogs, same breed and same upbringing ... Definitely comes down to individuals :) Oh and I would not trust either of them with a cat.

Thank you! I will give them a go :) I hope your poor girl is going to be ok ... no one has to wonder where their grey hairs come from when you have pets that's for sure!

Hi Little Gifts - sorry to raise an old topic, but I was wondering if you could let me know which vet you go to? I think you are in Beenleigh just up the road from me? Juno has a huge rash at the moment and I suspect it might be hives... not resonding to calendula tea or the cream we use that normally clears up any rashes in a day. We don't have any swelling like poor Stussy but the rash looks so uncomfortable and she is starting to scratch it raw. I'm just not convinced that my vet is going to be very thorough with skin issues. The last skin issue we took to them was the time Hunter had something which I though might be a ringworm mark he told me it was just from his harness rubbing... wasn't anywhere near where his harness sat, and he hadn't worn it recently anyway.

beauty and brains congratulations, he is obviously a very special boy <3 -
mine like apple, banana, and carrot ... and anything else that you make them think is a treat by making them sit and wait before they can have it  They also think ice cubes are the best treat ever... cheap dogs haha
-
opps that would have been a bit of a surprise LG! Kinda glad my two are knee height and lower now
-
mine do that as well, I like to think they are just trying to be helpful lol

what gorgeous dogs ... and clearly in their element as well! I'd say the diet is working well for them lol

Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?
Lasareina replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hunter flatly refuses Kidney and Liver the little bugger... I would have bet any amount of money that it would be Juno who would be the fussy one, but she just eats it straight up! -
Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?
Lasareina replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
haha it's so funny how they all have their own little personalities and foibles :) She sounds like she definitely knows her own mind  I think the veggie is more for trace vitamins etc and fibre ?? maybe?? To me the most important components are the meat, bones and offal which it sounds like she is accepting ok. The supplement will fill in the vitamin and minerals that she may miss from veges. Maybe the only other thing would be an omega oil? I am far from the most experienced raw feeder though, I'm sure someone will come along soon who knows what they are talking about a lot more than I do  -
Raw Feeding Meat And Bones Only?

we feed veges with ours but I know a lot of people believe that the veges aren't required so i think she would be fine, especially if you add in the health booster. We used the health booster for ages and it always reassured me that I was filling in any gaps in their nutrition that I was accidentally missing. I was happy with the health booster, we are just trying out the show stopper supplement at the moment, but I think we will end up going back to Van Health Booster. Does she eat egg? i found it a lot easier to mix in the veges + supplement when using a whole egg as a wetting/binding agent. Otherwise the pups would just eat around the veges  . The heath Booster is supposed to be mixed into damp food, so depending on how chunky your meat is (as opposed to a 'damp' mince to mix it in ifkwim) the egg might help with making sure there is enough moisture to mix the supplement into. -
no practical or useful comment here... just seconding the call for lots of photos when you get one :D both breeds are adorable
-
aww squeeee ... so cute!
-
awesome shot! your photos always make me smile :)

Looks pretty good to me... I like that it is grain free. My pups are fine with chicken so the chicken fat isn't a deal breaker for me. I raw feed but this looks like a good option if we need to leave dry food while we are on hoidays etc. The price looks ok? I can't remember what we were paying for premium dry food before

Happy birthday Didi! Is that your pool or is it a special doggie pool? I love how it has the sloping entry so it is easy for them to get in and out!
-
oh good I feel better now :p fencing of any kind seems to be an expensive proposition lol
-
Looks great Leec! Hopefully your staffies will enjoy their clam shell pool/sandpit and not chew it into a million pieces like my two did :-/ You have successfully made me feel very lazy slash incompetent for considering buying kit fence panels for a dog run re-purposed into a chicken coop  i think your fence building skills might far outstrip mine some how :)
-
Thanks Oso Swift and Riley James ... I will check out those suggestions :) it's funny how things get left to the last minute... we are supposed to be rehoming some chicks from the ag department of the high school so I guess when we are told they will be here in 2 days, something might get done haha
-
we are looking for a dog run to use as a chicke yard and to keep the dogs out instead of in lol... if your husband feels like welding us one at half the price and twice the quality let me know haha but if anyone has a recommendation of a kit one you can buy that would be cool too.. sigh :p
-
I'm sure other people think my two are spoilt - but they are part of my family and I love them, so i don't think I could take less good care of them without it hurting me I do find it quite amusing that their meals are all planned and weighed, no preservatives, added supplements etc etc while the human diets are less than ideal. I would never consider giving the pups the big mac that they are eyeing off so beseechingly... but think nothing of us humans eating it  priorities I guess :p

wow congratulations Neko, Arkey and Widget not surprised given how gorgeous they all are :) what does RUBOB mean? sorry, clueless newbie here haha

How To Make Them Enter The House Calmly?
Lasareina replied to cassie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
we have this problem too ... they will sit at the door and stay until they are released, but then it's crazy racing inside, a bit of jumping up and down for pats, and then racing into the lounge to sit in their spots. I can see what Nehkbet means about site not equaling calm... Hunter in particular is practically vibrating as he waits for the 'ok ' to release and come inside. It is like he can not physically contain the excitement of seeing his humans again. Hunter also vocalises any time he gets frustrated, including while walking and asking him to stay in heel when he wants to pull me to the park for example. This seems to feed back on itself and increase the pent up excitement until he explodes. I will give the leads a go as well - just hope I don't get dragged along on the zoomie by 2 hyped up staffies
