I have two in runs, two in the yard and two little ones indoors when OH and I are at work. The two in runs I'd keep inside when I went to work if I could. They stay in if I'm only going to be a couple of hours somewhere and sleep in over night but OH and I are doing alot of disagreeing regarding the dogs at the moment so I doubt them being inside while I am at work is an option. When we are home they are all in the yard or inside.

I didnt bother with desexing contracts simply because the general consensus is they will not hold up in court, not to mention I do not have the money to take people to court all the time. Having a desexing contract was no guarantee the new owner wouldnt breed anyway. I place my pet puppies on limited register but again that doesnt stop people from breeding just stops them from being registered. I go through the trading post, petlink, gumtree etc and see all the adds for puppies either crossbred or "parents have papers" "from champion bloodlines". My breed is attractive to feral rednecks, people who want to breed piggin dogs, my breed may one day succumb to BSL and I have decided the dogs I breed will not be any part of that. So the boys have vasectomies and the girls have tubal ligations (I am also happy to fully spay or neuter if the new owners want to, knowing all info). You can sell to the most wonderful people on earth but it only takes one thought or a suggestion from someone else (even vets suggest it!) that they should breed their dog, or they have a friend with a dog and theyd make cute puppies etc or they can no longer keep their dog and dont contact me but sell it on to someone else who then decides to go on and breed it. Not happening with my dogsd, my lines. I dont spend all the money and time and energy in the world breeding and raising pups only to have them go and contribute to the overpopulation of crossbred dogs out there, whilst lining the pockets of their owners. I understand there maybe genuine responsible people out there where this would not happen, but Im not going to take that chance because I honestly believe they are the minority and it would kill me to know one of my dogs was being used as a breeding machine. I also want to preserve the breed. I mainly place pups on limited register becasue they dont fit the ideal. There are no perfect dogs of any breed, but the more people breed with sub standard dogs the more the general public thinks that what they are supposed to look like, if that makes sense. For basic example I have bred a few dogs that have had no mask on their muzzle,I dont want people breeding from these, creating more dogs with no mask etc, so they are sterilised and on limit reg. SO they are the reasons I sterilise. I also sold a show puppy on main reg, a puppy I was going to keep to a newbie couple that signed a contract that they will show him to his title. They live 15minutes from KCC park. He was shown twice as a baby thats it. Because of that I will now never sell a show puppy to an inexperienced person. I will only consider people who have proven themselves in the ring. This is what happens, you trust people and they let you down, Im not going to go and continue trusting people to do the right thing by me, no matter how wonderful they sound.

Took this video of two of my dogs Chase and Kalais. Kalais just couldnt keep her tongue off him, even holding down his head so she can lick him. He obviously didnt mind all the attention though

http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/story/2012/02/16/loose-dog-mauls-lad/ BLAYDE Humphreys will no longer feel safe playing on the street after a neighbourhood dog tore into his right leg. The River Heads boy will be on crutches for six weeks after the savage attack by a german shepherd. Blayde, 11, spoke to the Chronicle from his bed at Hervey Bay Hospital yesterday, and said he no longer wants to ride his bike or walk his neighbour's dog, a job he regularly does to earn pocket money. He was walking the little dog on Tuesday afternoon when, he says, he was confronted by a group of three kids armed with sticks who began threatening him. The trio, who are known to the boy, were with an unleashed german shepherd. Blayde recalls the dog lunging and latching onto his heel for about 20 seconds. Its teeth ripped tendons and left a bleeding, gaping wound in need of stitches. His mum, Wendi Humphreys, wants to know what is being done about the dog that has left her son so injured and traumatised. She is calling for the animal to be impounded. "His leg's not good. It's a pretty big open wound," she said. "I was in shock. I didn't expect it to be as bad as it is. "I've already made a complaint (to council) about the dog. "It's always out roaming and the owners do nothing. I can't even get out to mow the lawn." Ms Humphreys admits her family has had issues with the dog's owners since they moved to River Heads Rd. "There were half-a-dozen people in the street screaming for someone to take this dog away. The kids went home and got a lead, but the parents didn't even come out," she said. Another neighbour, who didn't want her name published, described Blayde's wound as "ghastly". She said the german shepherd had a reputation for roaming freely and chasing residents. "This dog has attacked various other dogs after roaming into people's yards. I can't let my kids out on the street." Council says it is investigating the incident.

I'm sure it was mentioned they only had medium because that's what stopped me getting one, too small.

Dont get a bullmastiff if.... you are house proud and dont like to get dirty. Slobber will get on your clothes, your couch, your skin, your walls, your floor. If you want a dog that will respond in seconds to your command. They are very slow at doing what you want. And often have to be "made" to do it. if want a dog that will do repetitive obedience procedures. They get bored quickly, and dont do repitition well. Food is helpful, but even that gets boring. if you want a high drive dog. They are very laid back and will happily spen the day (and night) sleeping. if you dont have patience ;) If you cant handle stubborness. If you want a dog for a running partner. If you want a dog that you can let off lead. Bullmastiffs can be dog aggressive and our breed doesnt need any more nails in the BSL coffin if you want a dog that will always play nicely with other dogs. see above comment. if you want a dog that will "play fetch" etc. Whilst Im sure some will, none of mine have. The ones that tried it gave up after one or two gos. if you are not a confident, strong leader, that always enforces the rules and sets boundaries that are not to be broken. A bullmastiff will walk all over you, without you even realising it. if you want a dog you can take out on hot days. Bullmastiff dont do heat too well. if you cant handle judgemental people giving you evil glares , crossing the road when you come toward them or telling you how viscious your dogs are and one day they will just "snap" and attack you . Bullmastiffs get the baby killer looks all the time. if you cant handle redneck ferals approaching you for converstaion. Bullmastiffs unfortunately attract them by the truck load or should that be, piggin' ute load. if you cant handle 60kg of love, slobber and kisses on your lap.

I've been told Boxer X but I don't buy it  I thought I had seen you post in the past saying you had a bullmastiff cross. I can see boxer but I also see bullmastiff resemblance ;)

Does Maggie have bullmastiff in her? My bullmastiffs dont play with toys. They rarely play at all but when they do its with each other, lots of mouthing around the head and neck and as you say playing chicken with each other, very rough.

What Fruit And Veges Do Your Dogs Like
Kaffy Magee replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
The other night we had a BBQ and I offered a bit of lettuce to all the dogs. 3 took it but promptly spat it out but Kijana chewed hers up. She looked so funny, like she didn't really like it but was going to eat it anyway, lol. She had more after and ate it the same way too. Other than that my dogs also like banana, strawberries, apple sometimes carrot. Haven't tried alot of stuff. I've mixed stuff in their dinner that they ate but that's not the sama as giving it to them on it's own. ETA: Chase like to share a few grapes with me too. Ive heard they are "apparently" toxic but just a few isnt going to hurt a dog of his size. -
Can anyone tell me what other drugs can be used to treat incontinence in bitches other than stilboestrol? Can anyone share their experiences with treating a dog with incontinence, what worked what didn't. What tests did the vet do if any? I'm sure I've read change of diet can help sometimes, can anyone elaborate? Cheers :)

We wanted something with a low activity level. That was probably he main thing. Quiet, protective, laidback and stable temperament, as we had kids. I had it narrowed down to 3 breeds. Bullmastiff, Rodhesian Ridgeback and Newfoundland. Newfie was the first to be crossed off becasue my OH thought they were too big and too much hair. And I preferred the look of the bullmastiff over the ridgeback, the rest is history. Will never be without a bullmastiff (or 4). They literally are the perfect fit. Thats not to say I wont ever have other breeds, because I will, but Bullmastiffs are so perfectly suited to me its not funny.

Thank you so much for the info everyone! Dxenion, thank you so much, your post really helped I think I'll get it and buy another one aswell. Its solely for dog poo, so no worries about fussy worms, its poo or nothing, lol! I also wont be using the castings on anything of importance, probably just chuck it in the back corner where there are a few trees. To be honest I dont worm my dogs very often but will keep that in mind when I do. What about other medication? Heartworm, comfortis etc? I feed raw for two dogs and a combo of raw and dry for the other two. Cant wait to get some lil' wormies! Thanks agian! :D

OMG, I was about to start a thread about the exact same thing! My dogs have taken to pooing and peeing on our patio. Its driving me insane and it stinks. We hose it down as soon as we see it but thats not really fixing the issue. I was feeding them out there but then the girls would piss where their bowls were after they finished. So I feed them up on the grass now but they are still doing it on the patio. Is there something I can scrub the patio with that will deter them...Im pretty sure there isnt but thought I would ask anyway. The patio is where they all lay, its undercover, their beds are there and its "close" to us. The only thing I can do is lock them in a run all the time, which I dont want to have to do. I usually put two in the run while we are at work and two out and when we are home, all four are out. I said to my OH the other day about fencing off most of the patio and just leaving a little bit that they can still lie on undercover and be near us but that wont happen for a while yet. Any ideas for in the mean time?

There is a lady selling a worm farm (minus worms) on my local Facebook buy and sell and Ive been thinking about having a worm farm for the dog poo for some time. What I'd like to know is 4 bullmastiffs poos too much for one worm farm to handle? Does the worm farm smell if its being used for dog poo and what do I do with the "castings" and how often? And do they smell? Currently I put it in a bag and in the bin, but looking for a less stinky way of doing it. I dont want to stink my neighbours out though if the worm arm is going to stink. Can anyone help? Thanks :)

Wow! Haven't Prices Change In 10 Years!
Kaffy Magee replied to Roova's topic in General Dog Discussion
I paid $600 for my bullmastiff bitch in 2002. In 2005 they were around the $800- $1000 mark, in 2008 $1200-$1500 and now $2000 seems to be the going price. -
I will spay any bitch that is no longer to be bred from or shown. I'd probably keep the boys entire but would base my decision on the individual dog. I have a 4 year old bitch ( has had one litter) here now who I don't " plan" to breed again but I'm keeping her entire until i have bred her sister successfully. It would be just my luck to have her desexed and then something bad happen to her sister so I'm not risking it, since they are my only bitches.

I don't mind people asking price providing it's within a decent enquiry and not " have you got pups and how much". Having said that if I get a decent enquiry that hasn't enquired about price I send out an email covering everything including price. I don't want to waste my time on someone that's only going to turn around at the end and say oh I can't afford that much, it's just easier if every one knows price from the start.

Thanks for the lionk. Ive been looking for dog tags that are a bit different or custom made. This is great. Thank you :)

I moved from a non heartworm area in Vic to QLD a year ago. I started my dogs on heartguard. Was told by the vet to use for 6 months and then get a test done. I then changed over to valuheart, heaps cheaper (off ebay). I havent had the tests done. I started the heart wormer as soon as I moved here and since it is also a treatment aswell as preventative I didnt think it neccessary to do the tests as Im positive they didnt have it. I had 7 dogs when I moved up (6 now)Im not about to fork out for something that is not completely neccessary. Had I lived in QLD (or other heart worm area) for some time before starting heart worm meds, then I would have had the tests done. I know some people only treat in the warmer months or every 6-8 weeks but I treat monthly all year round :0)

Interested to hear the answer on this one. Plan to breed my girl later in 2012 with imported semen, so want to do everything I can to help make it successful and was thinking about this product as I remember reading about it on here. Can someone please tell me where I can get it from?
