For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
Kaffy Magee replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh wow, what a coincidence! I was just rereading this thread last night and wondering how it was all going with Lewis! I dont blame you for not being happy, I know I wouldn't be! my boy has had the implant in just over 10 months now. I'm wondering if it's starting to wear off as On the weekend he was eyeballing an Akita and dobe and puffing him self up as we walked past them. I had to keep pulling him along as he didn't want to take his eyes off them which is not like him. I also Wont be happy if it takes 2 years to wear off or if his testes don't return to normal size. God I hope thats not the case. When is rommi due in season again? -
Currently my dogs are on chicken frames, mince with Vets All Natural, sardines/egg. Occasional lamb, and chicken wings. Due to my increased busy life Im considering trying part Black Hawk and part raw (minus the VAN). Im trying to work out how long a bag of dry would last me. How many grams of dry do you think is suitable per day, keeping in mind they will also get raw daily aswell. I was thinking 300gms of dry and the rest raw (total meal weight anywhere from 800gms to 1200gms). I just want to be sure they are getting adequate nutrition. Can anyone please offer me some advice :)

Homeless People In The City With Dogs
Kaffy Magee replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
Does anyone recognise these two dogs? My husband is currently in Sydney and sent me this pic on my phone. He said there was a really rough looking guy hanging around in the distance keeping an eye on them and returning them to their mat when they got off. Im just wondering if they are always there with this sign or if they genuinely need vet care. My husband did say one looked sick, but really he wouldnt know. Makes me so sad. I couldnt live in the big cities, seeing the homeless, the drug/alcohol addicted and dogs like these Its so sad people live like this. -
I just realised this was an old thread right before replying but Ive decided to reply anyway. I as a breeder would answer those questions if they were sent to me. Its a hell of a lot better than an email that says "Do you have any puppies and how much?" We try to drum it in to peoples heads about buying from an ethical reg breeder and ask lots of questions, so Im happy to answer should I be asked. If it makes the puppy buyer more comfortable with the process then good, thats how it should be, imo. It shows they are doing their research, which is more than most do, and I appreciate that. It just looks like a scary list because its written infront of you but if you had a conversation with the breeder it would flow easier and maybe not appear so full on. Along with the questions though, I would like to hear a little about the buyers themselves. I love getting emails where the buyers have put thought into it and "introduced" themselves properly.

Thank you! I don't have any jewellery cleaner or an ultrasonic one so I might just go the warm soapy water and toothbrush. I didn't want to use that incase it wasnt good for them, but obviously is ok to use. Thanks again :)

Recommendation For Vets In Bairnsdale Vic Please
Kaffy Magee replied to bianca.a's topic in General Dog Discussion
There are only 2 vets in Bairnsdale. I used to go to main st vets. I can not give any advice regarding the other one as I've never been, but he is at Eastwood. At main st I only used grant kuseff or Jason Wong if grant was not available and I needed to see someone urgently. I lived in Bairnsdale all my life(30 years) until last year, they saw me quite often, lol. -
Sorry guys, I completely forgot I started this thread! I was not comfortable using it hence why I declined when offered some. I have bullmastiffs and so does my friend and a few others that I know use it, plus I had heard of heaps of people using. All their dogs are fine, but Im still a worrier when it comes to my dogs and I just wanted other peoples opinions/knowledge. I have 6 dogs and of course the cost of heartworming, flea trreatment, all wormer, food etc is expensive and I try to save money when I can but, no, I will not try and save money if it is detriment to my dogs health. Thanks Nekhbet, will check that site out now! Thank you to everyone who replied, I think I'll leave it for now. Im not comfortable using something that has not been recommended by a vet, so until that day comes I'll just stick to what Im, doing now. :)

I know of people using ivermetin liquid you get for sheep for their dogs. Its much more economical and Im considering using it. Does it treat intestinal worms aswell as heartworm? Can anyone offer me some info, does anyone here use it for their own dogs and Does anyone have the correct dosage amounts? I have a friend who has offered me some but Ive been a bit unsure if its all ok to use. I currently use valuheart for heartworm at the moment and that contains just ivermectin so it should be ok. Hope it does intestinal worms aswell.

How far north are you? I gave all my puppies vasectomies/ tubals in 2010 when I was still in Victoria. I moved to qld and need to arrange one for a boy I had run on but decided to rehome. The responses varied from all the vet clinics I rang, most wouldn't do it ( I'm on the Fraser coast) but there were a few who would and prices varied from 1000 to 400 down to 170. In Victoria I only paid 170 and the vet had told me it's not much different to neuter just more fiddlier, so I could not believe the $1000 quote, I think they wanted me to desex instead so were trying to put me off. so I went with the $170 option in bundaberg. The boy came out just fine. And the pups were like nothin had happened straight after I bought them home, it didn't knock them around like it does with the older ones plus the incisions are much smaller.

I have one with medibank and have just signed up one with pet plan. The one with medibank I kept with them because they will still pay hundred percent of the claim minus my excess if I renewed however if I wanted to join my girl up it would only be eighty percent coverage. So I signed her up to pet plan as they will still pay hundred percent of the bill minus excess.

Ive used lino and never had an issue with slipping, maybe it matters what sort of lino ? I dont know, I just used cheap stuff from the warehouse. Marine carpet and artificial grass is a good idea though, might keep that in mind for my next litter.

Thanks guys. After speaking to numerous other people, Phil seems to be the way to go. I have dealt with him before regarding a separate issue and was happy with him just thought Iw ould get thoughts on others. Thanks again :)

If You Were Choosing A Breed On Looks Alone...
Kaffy Magee replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bullmastiff Dobermann Afghan Alaskan malamute Boxer German shepherd Newfoundland Samoyed -
I used to be the same wanting so many breeds but over the years I have narrowed it down by picking breeds that I really like, that are similar and chosing which one I would rather out of them. Eg. I love malamutes, samoyeds and Keeshond but if it came down to deciding I would rather a malamute. So I will always have, show and breed bullmastiffs but I would like one dobermann(hopefully in the the next 12-24 months when we buy some land) and one alaskan malamute as show dogs/family pets. I would also like a smaller breed of dog to show and breed and here I am coming unstuck. My picks are Boston, chinese crested, basenji or pug. The Boston is probably the favourite at this stage. I also have a thing for german shepherds, toy poodles and kelpies however for some strange reason I have no desire to show them, maybe I'll adopt one of each in need of a home in the future when I am in a position to.

Have you thought about feeding raw. That tends to be cheaper than feeding dry. Chicken frames, mince, mixed with pureed veggies, some sardines or mackerel, egg and lamb necks/ off cuts etc when you can afford it. And can also add extras, vitamin c, brewers yeast, etc I worked out I pay about $50 a week( and I can't get my meat here as cheap as some places) to feed 4 bullmastiffs and 2 small dogs. So it would cost you heaps less to feed One big and one small dog especially if you can source your meat cheaper than I can. The other option if you don't have time for preparing it all, is buy some Vets All Natural complete mix and mix that with the mince 3-4 times a week.
