Ive just made my first claim with pet plan for my dogs lymphoma treatment. I waas told it would take 21-30 days to process. I got an email back from them to say there was history missing, I emailed them with my reply and also rang to make sure they got it, there was no history missing, my dog just hadnt needed to see a vet in the time frames they were saying were missing. I rang nearly every week to be told the same thing, its awaiting approval. I then rang last week, since it was now just over 30 days since I emailed my claim and was told it was now in accounts awaiting a cheque to be written and yes it had been approved. I was also told they were behind with claims but my follow up claims for further treatment shouldnt take as long because they have all the information and history in the system. Im thrilled it is being covered but my friends dog who is with another company was bitten by a snake on the 16th last month and had her money in the bank in 2 weeks. Im with Petplan because they offer 100% coverage but I really think they can improve the times it takes to process claims.

What Breed Do You Love To Watch In The Ring...
Kaffy Magee replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
Afghans, they are stunningly beautioful, breathtaking and just love the way they move. I'd own one in a heart beat if I knew anything about grooming coated dogs, lol. -
I have vasectomies and tubals done on my large breed pups before they go to new homes. Could not believe how quickly they recovered. When I picked them up from the vets it was like nothing had even been done. Vet said "keep them quiet" , yeah right  . And the incisions were tiny. As for showing, I rang Dogs QLD to enquire about showing a dog with a vasectomy (one I bred and the owner expressed interest in hvaing him shown) and it is completely allowable. He initially said no but I quoted the rules/regs on showing male dogs and it says nothing about vasectomies. He said he would ring me back. And he did and said that it was ok to show him (not that we did in the end anyway). So having said that I would assume a bitch who has had a tubal is allowed to be shown too.

On the weekend my boy Chase picked up two Aus Bred in groups, 1 Aus Bred in show and 1 Runner Up Best in group! He was BOB both days which gave him his final points for his title!! He had the Suprelorin implant put in last year (for medical reasons) so because of that and my work committments unfortunately I havent been showing much, so Im thrilled to have finally gained his title. I was feeling a little sad this weekend at the show as I only had my boy there, due to my girl undergoing cancer treatment, but he knew how to cheer me up! Im so proud of him, he has another good year or so of maturing to do but love how he is coming along so far. Thanks for letting me share!! :) http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=50197

I'm about to purchase my first bag of this. I notice a local pet stOre is now stocking it so I enquired about price. They are charging 102.50. So I rang another supplier about an hour away and I'm picking a bag up from this weekends dog show for $85. Great price, hope it works for my dogs!

Bison The Rottweiler And His Lymphoma Battle
Kaffy Magee replied to DerRottweiler's topic in Palliative Care Forum
Thank you for sharing your journey DR. IT gives me hope as Im about to embark on the same road with my girl Kalais. I hope Bison continues to be well and lives for a long while yet :) -
Thanks so much for your support. I have my girl booked in tomorrow for her ultrasound, blood work up and first bout of chemo. She is still happy and healthy, to look at her you wouldnt know she is not well. I am happier knowing we can buy her more time, 4-6 weeks is too soon, I cant deal with that, not when I may get atleast another 12 happy healthy months out of her. Nothing compares to losing her, her life is the most important thing here but there is an added sadness. I had planned to breed her this season, she is due in any day now. Obviously that wont be happening. I had planned this mating for years, it was a very special mating and I had Bullmastiff breeders worldwide interested in this litter. Im sad I will not have a son or daughter of hers, something I desperately wanted, she is such a beautiful bitch, I have had great success with her and she means the world to me. The whole situation is just shit. At a time when I am supposed to be excited about new life from my beautiful girl Im devestated that Im losing her and the dream I had, instead. She is only 4 and a half, Life is so cruel

Has Anyones Dog Had Cancer Treatment,
Kaffy Magee replied to Kaffy Magee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you all so much. Im still not %100 sure if we will treat with Chemo, Im just trying to look at all options. Im hoping the vets will agree for Pet Plan to pay them direct (as it states on the form that it can be done that way if the vet agrees and signs) as I cant afford to fork out that money to start with, thats why I have insurance! Ive been told the average life span for a dog undergoing chemo for lymphoma is 13 months. 20-25% will make it past 2 years. CareyJ thank you for your information. I was quoted $5000 - $6000 for 6 months chemo, Im at a loss why yours costs so much in just 2 weeks, did you pay in full upfront? Im pleased to hear they paid you claim and only in 10 days, Ive heard some people it has taken months to get reimbursed. Im sorry you lost your girl -
One of my dogs has just been diagnosed with Lymphoma. I have insurance with PetPlan for her and just rang to confirm they would cover treatment. She said they do but Im just wanting to hear other peoples experiences and if they have ever had any trouble in claiming for it and if there is anything else I should ask about before going ahead. Thank you
-
Thanks guys but I'm devastated to say it's been confirmed I will speak to the oncologist today and discuss options. Without treatment she has 4-6 weeks left, you would never know she is as happy and active as ever. I just can't believe it.

Thank you all for your kind words. I went in to the vet this morning. Its not looking good We will have the official results tomorrow. Im devestated and trying to hang on to the tiny bit of hope that its an infection.

My Bullmastiff girl is 4.5 years old presented today with all lymph nodes swollen big and hard. She has not shown any signs of being unwell and her temp is a normal 38. I did notice she had been peeing more today (I was at a dog show, so was easily noticeable)but put it down to her being due in season any day now. Bullmastiffs are very prone to cancer, her son from her first litter had to be put to sleep due to it at 16 months but he was the first of "mine" to present with it. SO Im very very worried right now. After doing some research I read that the peeing frequently can be a symptom too. All signs are pointing to it, Im freaking out. Its hard not to when the odds are stacked against you. I keep saying "dont get a head of yourself" "think positive" but I just cant, Im convinced already. I cant help but think if she had an infection there would be more signs, a higher temp, lethargy etc . Ill be off to the vets first thing tomorrow. Can everyone please send positive vibes for my girl, I really need them right now, I am so scared.

Thought I would post some photos and went looking for my last thread but apparently its too old to post in So heres a new one :) Chase is 2 years old now and just starting to fill out and Kalais is 4 and a half and we are currently waiting for her to come in to season as we have a very special breeding planned for her. One of Chase at 16 months (the rest are recent ones) And a couple of Kalais I took the other night. I didnt worry about back grounds or lighting (it was getting dark) because I was just messing around but the ones of Kalais look great, so Im annoyed now that I have dog blankets hanging in the back ground and slobber on her lips, lol.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Without Health Issues.
Kaffy Magee replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't read all of this thread but wanted to saythat when I was at the vets the other week, a vet nurse had just bought herself a little cav puppy. She was showing it off to a client and saying how cavs are so in bred you can't buy one that doesn't have health problems, so she has already worked out how much it's going to cost her down the track for heart mess etc . It's sad when people held in suc high regard are telling this tothe general public. I like this vet nurse , she is lovely and hopefully one day I'll be able to set her straight but unfortunately I had my hands full the day I heard her say it. I don't know too much about how common certain health issues are in cavs but Im pretty sure theres plenty of healthy ones out there being bred by reputable breeders. It's probably that there are more unhealthy ones being bred by not so reputable "breeders" and being one of the most popular breeds in the country I guess it's bound to have an effect. -
Kalais, about 8-10 weeks and at 3 years

Chase aged 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 months and 2 years (not in order) :)

When I mated my bitch back in 2010 we did a fresh AI because of the size difference between the two dogs. My bitch was about 45kg (middle of the range for a bitch of my breed) and the dog 75kg (oversized for a dog of my breed), so a 30kg difference. I couldnt see my bitch holding that weight for too long, so opted for the AI. One AI, 11 puppies (and no huge monsters like their dad, lol. But there was a few bigguns in my other litter by him.

Pauchel I had the same problem with my dobie boy. I spent so much money on coats. I then went and bought some pjs with the four legs in them. They lasted the longest, 5 days, before he worked out how to chew them off, lol. I gave up after that. I tried to have him inside in a crate but I couldnt as he would bark the place down, moving the crate across the room and eventually destroying my wire crate by bending it all out of shape. In the end I gave up and told him he would have to suffer. He wouldnt leave a blanket or bed in his kennel, it would get dragged out/chewed up, so in the end I stuffed it full of hay/straw and thats all he had. I felt bad because the nights would get into the minuses, but I tried everything (except a muzzle, why didnt I think of that?). I hope you can find a solution for the naughty bugger :)

Has anyone used the k9 Superfuel? Can the Superfuel and Showstopper be used together? Would the Superfuel really only be of benefit if the dog is a "Canine athlete" of sorts or can your average family pet/show dog that doesnt get alot of exercise gain benefit from it?
