Was doing a search for past topics and happen to come across this thread. Just so happens I was looking at Atuas website the otherday after seeing an add for an IMPRESSIVE 42.5KG 2 year old blue and white male. Available for stud duties to approved bitches only. Please contact for more details on this boy. Zeus is ONE IMPRESSIVE BOY. This dog never ceases to amaze me. He has the most outgoing nature, very loving and affectionate. He is a perfect obedience dog and gets along with all other dogs entire males included. He is a perfect dog for any breeding program as he has so much to offer. STUD FEE $250 Funny how she said she wasnt breeding her pet amstaff bitch yet had a litter in November from her and has pups on "that" site with the heading "make an offer". Next litter is due mid 2010. All I have to say to who ever she is getting her gordon setter from might want to do a bit more research.

With my first litter I was advised to take over, so I did. Bit of a fight to get them out from under her face but I wasnt taking any chances. She got them back straight away. Second litter was a c-section, but my next two planned for later this year I'll be doing the same.

When Choosing Between Two Breeds....
Kaffy Magee replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
When we were deciding on breeds the main focus was laid back/relaxed/not needing heaps of exercise and it came down to newfoundlands, ridgebacks or bullmastiffs. We dropped the newfies as OH thought they were too big and too hairy. We wanted a relaxed laid back breed. And we both preferred the look of the bullmastiff over the ridgies so thats what we have now and I would never go back, we definitely made the right choice with this breed. I now am looking for a small breed(showing/future breeding) to add to the clan. Pug and Boston Terrier are in the front as all the other breeds I like require grooming and I dont have the time for that at the moment such as Papillons, Griffons, Toy poodle, Chinese Crested PP. It wont be happening for a little while yet though, so plenty of time to decide. -
Do You Train Your Dogs Equally?
Kaffy Magee replied to Bubitty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nope. My dobe is much more fun to train. More enthusiasm, quicker to move, quicker to understand what I want, more reliable. My 2 young bullmastiff girls who have just turned 2 dont even know how to sit or stay or drop/lay down They can "stand", "wait", come when called(most of the time) and understand "ah ah" They walk on a loose lead, but dont heel as such. We get by just fine but its a bit embarrassing when people come visit and try and make my BMs sit and they wont. I guess it probably comes down to laziness on my part, but they are such a lazy breed, they dont go bouncing off the walls if they dont get the mental or physical stimulation that many breeds need, like dobes. So they tend to take a back seat to the dobes training. My older girl on the other hand I put more training into and she does all that and the sit, heel, drop and stay. Ive been thinking of going to obedience this year and tracking with one of my BM girls,Kalais, shes the one that is a pleaser and will do anything for food. We'll see how we go. I think she has great potential to get a few titles on her which would be great for the breed as you dont see it very often with the BMs. -

Ive soaked my 2 cool mats for the first time on Saturday, to take them to a dog show on Sunday. However I found them too heavy to be lugging around so left them at home on the dog bed. Yesterday I tried to get the dogs to hop on them but they wouldnt. Today one of my girls gave it a try. She first stood on it but wouldnt sit, so I just stood in front of her preventing her from walking off, eventually she sat, and leaned against my leg, so I then moved so she sort of fell over on her side, and that is where she stayed,LOL. I knew she would like it once she lay on it properly. Now just to get the others to realise the cool squishy thing is something to be enjoyed. I had a little lay on it and could have done with it in bed last night, it was so hot.

Anyone Used Alpha Keri Oil In Dogs Bath?
Kaffy Magee replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use this on a brown dobe I am temporarily showing. His previous handler used this and it was recommended to me. I use it in between shows and lather it on, leave it on for a while and then wash off. Im not game enough to try it just before a show as it does leave him a little greasy at first. However he is nicer to touch since Ive been using it. -
How Do You Leave Food Out For A Puppy
Kaffy Magee replied to Whipitgood's topic in Breeders Community
Personally I wouldnt leave a 10week old baby with my older dogs unsupervised, but I understand you dont want him on his own and lonely. Can you make up a pen for him so he can still see/be near the others. -
Hi tlc, I live in Bairnsdale, I might even know your family, small world and all. PM if you like! Yes Rocco, they all get on really well. Only occasionally and usually only when the 2 young girls are coming in to season they might have a little tiff but 99.9%of the time they absolutely love eachother. I couldnt deal with it if any didnt get along. Darcy the dobe, our newcomer, is just here temporarily while I title him(he is such a nice dog I could keep him, but keeping a male from my next litter, so cant) but he has slotted in perfectly and gets along with everyone which is great. And the little ones also get along with the bigguns, one big happy family ;)

Hi Kirislin, we were somewhere between nowa nowa and lake tyers, Im hopeless with direction. I just followed the others, lol. We actually took 6 dogs but Pepe isnt often in photos with the big ones as he stays out of the way. They were actually pretty good. My OH and I took separate cars, him with the boat, me with the dog trailer so they could sleep in there over night. I set up a temporary pen for them during the day, took some chicken wire and star pickets and then took them out a couple of times a day for a run and play. We were camping with friends who have a toddler and they are not doggy people so I was a bit stressed about that incase the dogs played up or annoyed them, but they were so good, even my OH said so and thats saying something Geckotree, thay did have great fun. They didnt get to play and run as much as I would like due to camping with the non doggy people but they still got out and wore themselves out in the water which was good

We not long got back from camping and I thought I would share some pics. Only 5 of my 6 feature in these photos, Pepe the papillon tends to stay out of the way as he would get trampled on in all the fun and games, so unfortunately didnt get too many of him. The most exciting thing for me was Kalais one of my bullmastiffs swam for the first time. They all go out as long as they can touch the bottom but this time Kalais decided to go that bit further and found she liked swimming. Not too many bullmastiffs actually swim, so Im proud of my girl. Anyways here are some pics KAlais, swimming! Kalais, Sniffy(jrt) and Darcy Sniffy, she just loves swimming and will go for hours if we let her. kalais, kijana, keisha Kalais playing with the waves after a boat went past, her mother does this too, tries to eat the waves, lol The big race back when I called them Kalais on the run from the others, she is always the one being chased but she loves it The big 4 just before an all in wrestle broke out, which I put a stop to much to their disgust And one of Darcy, just cos hes so handsome ;) Couldnt get one of him looking at the camera ;)

Hope you all have a merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year. Remind me not to do this again next year, what a nightmare trying to get that perfect shot. I still didnt get it but this was the best, minus the tinsel and baubles they tried to eat Hats didnt fit their fat heads so everytime they moved, hat fell off, I put it on, they look up to see what Im doing hat falls off and repeat over and over, oh what fun

How heavy is the mat once soaked?

I work in a boarding kennel and a lady brought in her 2 cavs and a huge pink donut bed. She told me she bought it off the net and it was only $90 blah blah blah. Anyway after she left I went and had a look at it, and it is the best quality donut bed I have ever seen. It is very firm, so its not going to squash down to nothing like all the others Ive had and it has removable covers for washing. I went and lay on it and honestly I could sleep on it, I was so comfortable. I am so impressed with the quality Im going to get one(or 2 or 3). Anyway I had a look at the tag and it had there website on it. Hers was Xtra Large but you can get a jumbo. www.cloudk9.com.au

I just wanted to say since I didnt mention it in my post and may have giving some the wrong impression. My dobe is excellent with my kids and other peoples kids. He can be calm and very gentle, very well behaved and is obedience trained, however being a young dog he is full of energy and when on the go,he is pretty full on. Just wanted to point that out incase anyone thought I wasnt capable of producing a well trained dog as what I wrote in my first post made it seem like he isnt good with kids.

Thanks guys! Im a little bit proud,LOL. Its good to have somewhere to show them off, everyone else I know doesnt get the obsession and therefore, not interested, lol.

Taking it to the land Keisha ready to take down Kalais Going in for the kill with the help of Kijana Kalais on the rim of the dam Kijana head shots
-
Our dam has been dry as a bone for 12 months now but we have had some rain over the past week and now have a large puddle, so I took the girls down to play in it yesterday before it dries out again. They had an absolute ball and so did I just watching. Nothing makes me happier than watching my dogs run and play together and I am still amazed after all these years of having bullmastiffs how fast these suckers can fly. No slow and dopey galloping when it comes to these girls, super fast, super agile and very powerful when they want to be. The Bullmastiff lifespan is 7-12 but if you get past 10 you are doing really well My "old" girl Keisha is now 7 and shows no signs of slowing down, she can still keep up with the best of them and not a grey hair on her muzzle, she gets more beautiful as the years go on. Kijana and Kalais Keisha and Kalais Keisha and Kijana The 3 girls together

So Czara what are you going to do if the dog is attacking you or your dog? Tell it to go away nicely? Have you ever had a dog attack you or your dog, they dont just stop because you ask when they are intent on causing damage.
-
Ive kicked a dog that was attacking my entire male dobe. It slipped its collar after we walked past it and came after my boy ready to kill. My boy did not retaliate at all but I sure as hell did and gave it a fair boot in the guts. It stopped enough to look at me like WTF and the owner grabbed it. The next day we had an off lead dog come up and start biting my boys legs, me screaming at it was enough to scare it off, I wont go into the verbal attack I then bestowed on the owner. The following day we came across an entire male viszla and jrt, no owner and they came after us. Thankfully I had my OH with me(i dont know what i could have done on my own) and my quick thinking diverted any attacks. I no longer walk my dogs because of these 3 incidences but would not hesitate to kick a dog again should one ever rush up to us like that again, I wouldnt be waiting to find out if its friendly or not.

My papillon does this. Always has. He'll grab a mouthful of food take it to the carpet and spit it all out then eat it one by one. Drives me nuts.

1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Owner 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? The Doberman had its beginnings in the city of Apolda, located in the state of Thuringia, Germany. Louis Dobermann was reputed to be a tax collector in this area, and was also responsible for keeping the strays in the local dog pound. Herr Dobermann carried money on his person, and wanted a dog for self protection. His ultimate aim was to possess a dog that was of average build, so that it could be intimidating to intruders or robbers. A dog with a short, smooth coat would be easy to care for, with a minimum of grooming. The dog would also have to have great stamina, be intelligent, and display alertness, and even aggression. So when he decided to use different breeds to develop this special guard dog, Herr Dobermann had a very specific end in mind. His choices were not slap hazard, he picked and chose the dogs very carefully. This is one of the reasons why the Doberman Pinscher is referred to as "a man-made dog". Unfortunately, he did not keep any written records. However, some very good conjectures can be drawn from the knowledge we have of the anatomy and temperament of the Doberman, and the knowledge of the type of dogs that were indigenous to that area and time. From HISTORY OF THE DOBERMAN PINSCHER by Malcolm Dupre 3. How common is it in Australia? Not as common as they used to be and now that its harder to get tails docked I feel numbers will dwindle further. 4. What is the average lifespan? I'd say 12-14 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Just going from my dogs personally, love pats and cuddles, very smart, very pushy, in your face and demanding, always pushing the boundaries. Both my boys arent/werent very good guard dogs, however they are/were still young, destructive and gogogo. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? Ive heard and seen older dobes that are quite the lounge lizard however I wouldnt say thats the norm. My boys were still youngsters and needed alot of exercise. I can not miss a day or I will pay for it. Im lucky I live on acreage so my dogs get to free run but should I live in town I would recommend 2 walks a day and hour each would be ideal, at the very least one walk at an hour. PLUS they need lots of mental exercise, not just physical. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? I would say NO. but then it depends on the lifestyle of the person and whether they have plenty of support from their breeder and understand the importnce of setting boundaries for a dobe. Give an inch, they'll take a mile. My first response would be no, though. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? NO! They crave human interaction and beiong on their own for long periods is just asking for trouble. 9. How much grooming is required? Not much. A bath when needed, nails done regularly. I never bush my dog but a rubber mit would probably be enjoyed. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Yes i think so. I cant let my dobe out when the kids are on their bikes or the kids out if my dobe is flying around the place. He doesnt look where he is going and will just barrell into anyone and anything once he gets going. He and also quite a few I know have a jumping up problem. Its probably more of a training issue however it hasnt been an easy to get him to stop doing it. He hasnt jumped on kids but will jump on adults, old or otherwise 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? Von Willebrands, Cardiomyopathy, Wobblers
