  1. I agree Ellz, I am also over the puppy enquiries. And also get the smae response as you when meeting people whilst on socialisation outings etc. Its the first thing people are interested in when I say I breed bullmastiffs and it pisses me right off. Slightly off topic, I had one girl at my work ask how much I sell them for( I live in a small country area, so here people get pups from papers and pet stores). I told her, and I now regret it, before the night ended it was all around the factory how much I sell my pups for and how I must make a fortune, yadda yadda. Then I spent the night trying to explain to every tom dick and harry why I charge what I do, how much money I spend to breed, that breeding isnt just chucking two dogs together. I dont like to put my phone number out there either as I dont have time to waste talking to people who just want to know price, email contact first, phone call later if they are still interested. I also like to be prepared with my list of questions in front of me and pen and paper for writing down details. I hate being caught off guard.
  2. When I get email enquiries, I send off an pre drafted email which contains all info plus price and say if they are interested in going further to let me know and we can organise to have a chat via phone. That way I dont waste my time going through everything with them only for them to baulk at the price and never get back to me. After getting me first email, the price doesnt bother them, they'll contact me to take it further. It takes so much time doing emails, phone calls sending photos etc to have people pull out after hearing the price, so I give it upfront even if they didnt ask for it. I remember talking to one person over the phone once and found myself justifying the price and kicking myself afterwards because I shouldnt have to and if I find myself in that position again, I'll be a lot more tougher and suggest they find another breeder if they dont like my price.

  4. HI CM, yep it sure did My OH got cold feet and pulled out But he is keen to still go. And just as I have been typing this we have had our offer on a house accepted in Howard(25min out of HB) and contract is being written up. Having said that we are buying it as an investment so there is no pressure to shift up right now. The plan is to do it up and re sell, whether we shift up while doing that or not is another question.
  5. Thanks for that info! I usually show at kcc park here in vic, which would have between 800-1200 entries., plus some smaller country shows on occasion. I'll check out ipswich area too, thanks for the heads up
  6. Just wondering, I know there are alot of small shows throughout QLD, what shows, aside from the ones at Durack are larger shows? I am once again considering(not definite) moving to SE QLD, looking anywhere from Brisbane up to Hervey Bay and just want to know roughly what size shows they have in the area, (from Bundaberg,HB, Maryborough, Maroochydore to Caboolture etc). I dont mind doing small shows however I prefer the bigger ones. Cheers
  7. When a breeder has done everything possible to ensure they have bred a healthy pup, I believe any health issues that arise in the puppy come down to bad luck. Having said that I would feel terrible for the puppy buyers and offer them the purchase price of the puppy back or replace the puppy(which Im sure wouldnt occur in most cases as they have grown attached). Where they get their puppy treated is up to them, but if you were going to pay for the surgery than it is only fair that you get to choose the vet.
  8. Thanks Miranda, as I expected. I have not since the dog since her was a little puppy so I cant comment on him now. He has good bloodlines, his sire is http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=8170 And his dam is from Bouvet Newfs. His owner told me she would show train him and have him groomed etc but she doesnt know anything about show training or grooming for shows so, I couldnt see that happening. I expected it would be a lot of work and I am simply not up for that, but I thought I would just double check first to confirm my thoughts. Thanks again.
  9. There is a lady who lives in my town who has a 14months old male newfie that she wants shown and asked if I knew anyone who would show him for her. I wouldnt mind doing it myself, however I know nothing about the preparation for a show newfie. He obviously has had no show training and if her other 2 newfs are anything to go by, probably not much obedience training either She would have to have him groomed, ready for the show, however I dont know exactly how much grooming that entails and whether she would be able to arrange it. She takes them to the groomer because she cant do them herself, due to shoulder injury, i think. Does a newfie require any scissoring to tidy up or can you wash, blowdry brush and its all done. If I was to take him on to show what tools and products would I neeed to touch him up before entering the ring? Does anything need to be applied/done to the coat between shows? Im not confident this will work out, as she has no idea about the grooming and show training and whilst I can show a dog, Ive only ever dealt with short coated breeds. If its going to be too much to take on, I wont be doing it as I have my own dogs to worry about. I just thought if it was a matter of him just needing to be bathed, blow dryed and brushed before a show (which the owner can arrange)and a few minor touch ups before entering the ring(that I can do), it could work. I have bathed and blowdried and brushed her other 2 newfs before(i no longer have the equipment to do so though) and unfortunately their coats were in pretty poor condition as they werent groomed regularly. I hear now though that they do go to the groomers often, so who knows. Any help suggestions would be much appreciated. I would like to have a go at handling another breed, but I dont want to bite of more than I can chew with this untrained 65kg hairy boofa.
  10. I never had a dog growing up. But my dream dog was a German Shepherd. I still love them however I dont think they are a suitable breed for me right now, if ever. Ive seen alot of highly strung, super enegetic, GSD's and to be honest that has put me off. I know there are probably certain lines outt here that are not like that and thats great but I have found my heart breed in the Bullmastiff, easygoing and super low energetic, lol.
  11. Well, we had our first show on the weekend only Kobe was entered as Chase was 4 days too young Kobe won his class of 3, his litter brother Doug came 2nd! Jill Karena took some beautiful photos of my boys, so It hought I would post an update pic or 2 of the boys.
  12. I have no idea about cameras. What I want to know is can someone like me who has no knowledge of the ins and outs of cameras, take beautiful photos like I see all the time. I dont want to do it professionally, Im sure I would have to study for that, but I want to take nice pictures of my dogs and my cameras dont cut it. I know there are different lenses for different types of shots, is it just a matter of switching lenses or do you have to mess around with settings etc. I know it comes down to lighting and position, background of the subject etc but I just want nice quality looking photos . I want to be able to point and shoot and be able to take photos quickly, as with dogs, they are moving all the time and my photos always turn out blurry. As I said I have no idea about cameras, I just want to be able to take nice photos, without having to know the ins and outs of the camera Im using. Is this too much too ask???
  13. Ive been thinking about getting a worm farm for my dogs waste, but Im not sure exactly how much poo you can put in it at a time and how long does it take to break down? I have had 20 bullmastiff puppies, and 3 adult bullmastiffs, so as you can imagine there was lots of poo! Ive been taking it out far into the paddocks and dumping it, but its a lot of hassle. I will have 5 buillmastiffs after the final pups find new homes and want to know if that is too much poo for one worm farm. I know it probably depends alot on what you feed to how much poo there is but just on average, is 5 lots of poo a day too much for one farm? Or if I went with a compost hole in the ground like in the link, how long does it take to break down or will the hole fill up too quickly? For one or two dogs it would be alright but what about 5? Any help appreciated.
  14. Im sooo excited! This is my first show back for months and it will be my babies first show!!! Cant wait!!!
  15. HI Nynka, I dont teach my dogs sit either, which of course when anyone else tells them to sit and they dont, they are "disobedient",lol. I simply forgot to tell her not to teach him that yet. But it doesnt really matter I suppose, he is primarily a pet for them so I guess its natural they want him to know sit. We'll work around it.
  16. Thank you so much! I have just forwarded those links on to her. The dragonfly lama site is easy to read and understand, much easier than I could explain it. S how lessons would be great. I thought they would be more expensive but $15 a lesson is very reasonable. Thanks again!
  17. Ive sold one my boys to a couple in Tooradin on the condition he is shown. They want to have a go themselves, but if they dont like it then I will arrange for someone else to handle him. The owners have never shown before and are having trouble teaching him to stack. She has said he sits drops and stays but she cant get him to stand, he keeps playing up. Ive tried explaining in an email what to do but its a bit hard if you dont have anyone there to show you. Does anyone have a really good video or easy to read explaination on how to do it, that I can send her. I live about 3 hours away so I cant help her physically. Puppy is an 11 week old Bullmastiff and has his first show on the 14th of August. Any help much appreciated.
  18. I have recently had 2 litters 4 days apart, resulting in 20 puppies. I know some have made comments to others about me being a puppy farmer! That really upsets me. I despise puppy farmers and bybs. I have had two litters previously 2005 and 2008, I show my dogs regularly(both parents are Champions), I health test the parents, I wake up every few hours during the night to put puppies on their mums to feed as they are never left alone unsupervised with them, I take time off work to raise them, I do not sell to just anyone and the pet puppies are sterilised, because I care about them and never want them to end up as breeding machines. I wont be breeding again for about 3 years. What part of that says puppy farmer? Sorry for my rant, not directed at anyone, just pisses me off. I had two litters at once, not 10! Both my girls came into season together as they usually do. And as I take time off to raise the puppies, it makes sense to only do it the once rather than twice in the year. I also wanted a larger selection of males, so by having 2 litters it increased my chances of nice boys. My girls are litter sisters and as I am not going to breed again for 3 years that would be too late for one girl to have a first litter. If I did them 6 months apart I would want to keep something from both litters and at the time of planning the matings I was not in a position to do that and I will not breed unless I can keep something. So my plan was to have the two and keep the best male overall. Turns out I got sucked in big time and kept 2 anyway, so much for my plan, lol. Is there any difference in have one litter now and one 6 moths later, really? You are still having 2 litters, just going through the hard work twice rather than once. I am not keeping a bitch this time simply becasue if I do, thats another bitch I have to breed in 3 years time, plus I would like a litter again from my current bitches, and for me its too much. Too much hard work, sleep deprivation, stress, worry and expense. Breeding is not something I want to do all the time. And for the record, I wont do two litters together again. It wouldnt be so bad if I had a small breed but 20 large breed puppies is one hell of a lot of work. How people do it all the time I dont know.
  19. Hmmmm, ok thanks for that everyone. I just wanted something I could wheel ringside(without the dog in it) to put a puppy/dog in for easy swapping, as I now have more than 2 dogs to show, plus its good to have a table to put stuff on. I have large wire crates and they are just too heavy to go shifting around all the time. Do you think if I didnt wheel it around with anything heavy in it, it might do the job I want? Its only because its got wheels and is easy to move that I want it. Probably not something I will use all the time....or maybe I will, I dont know. I just didnt want to spend a fortune on one thats all, maybe I should just use soft crates, but I dont like them as much for larger dogs. I know my friend had a cheaper one, not sure if its the same though, she has made a few minor modifications and its a fair bit ricketty but she loads hers up to the top with stuff too. She has had it for a while and Its still going, but defiinitely doesnt look excellent quality. anyway thank you all, gives me something to think about.
  20. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Dog-Show-Trolley-1-...=item53e29cfe9d http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PET-HEAVY-DUTY-DOG-...=item5193f9773c Im thinking about getting a trolley and just wondering if anyone has bought either of these? The second one has two doors which dont look very wide so I probably prefer the one in the first link I posted.
  21. How are you? I am looking for a male bullmastiff pure breed puppy. I looked at your website, but there is no phone number on there. Do you guys have contact number I phone you on to discuss purchasing a male pure breed. I want a male because they are more aggressive. I live in Adelaide and I am willing to drive to Victoria to pick up a male pure breed bullmastiff. Please let me know if you have a healthy good sized for its age and intelligent. If you do have a puppy 7-10 weeks old, male, healthy, then i let me know, then I can arrange to drive and pick it up. Also is it possible to buy the biggest male of the litter ? and I need a price range or rough estimate so I know how much money to bring with me. Thanks from ******* I wont be wasting my time with this one. My OH thinks its spam, but I dont think so as it mentions no contact number on my website, so obviously has looked at my site. And this is exactly why I dont have my number out there, to prevent having to deal with dickheads like this. Has anyone else recieved similar emails?
  22. And Introducing VALGERD STORM CHASER, "chase". Stacked shot taken at 9 weeks.
  23. Well and up date for me..... I didnt finish titling Darcy the Dobermann due to bringing my planned matings forward which meant time out of the ring. I handled him to a RUBIG win under s dobe specialist which was exciting for me, being my first big win, he then went to his forever home in SA, won multiple BIG/RUBIG awards and titled in just a few short weekends. I didnt start the obedience and tracking with Kalais as again we brought the matings forward, but it is definitely still on the to do list. I have had a litter from each of my girls and kept 2 boys, Kobe and Chase. I have a few others heading out in the show ring too, so I am very excited. So I introduce to you VALGERD BULLETPROOF, "kobe" taken at 7 weeks, he is now nearly 10 weeks and is all legs, lol, so no recent pics
