I had a dobe who refused to be kept warm. I wasted so much money on him buying beds and coats and pjs and blankets only to have him destroy them all. I did want him to sleep indoors in a crate but he would go mental everytime I put him to bed, bashing around in the crate to the point he bent it all up. He was crate trained and happily stayed in crates without so much of a peep at dog shows! Anyway I put him outside in a dog run with a kennel, he seemed happier, however it was freezing in winter, sometimes below zero and so I began wasting my money buying him all sorts of creature comforts, only to have them destroyed in an instant. (Mind you he would also happily leave a coat on at a dogs show). In the end I gave up, I put an opshop blanket in there which he promptly pulled out and dragged around and I put a piece of foam rubber matting on the floor of the kennel. It managed to stay in there, only becasue he couldnt fit it out the door though. But that was all he got from then on and he seemed perfectly fine. I felt bad, but I could not afford to waste anymore money on him.

I was going to post this! Yesterdays paper had an article about a Bullmastiff type dog come from the water and attacking another ladies dogs. She or someone else went on to put up posters around the beach it happened with a picture of a Bullmastiff on it saying to watch out for a dog like this as it will attack. Apparently others have come forward to say they have also had their dogs attacked. It makes me sick, I own and a breeder of Bullmastiffs and to go plastering my breed around the town like its a killer has me fuming. I feel sick and I am scared for my dogs and my breeds future ;)

This is my Chase, shown only in baby and once in minor. Its been nearly three months since his last show, but this weekend we are stepping out into puppy class and in a new state too! He is developing into everything I had hoped for and look forward to campaigning him throughout 2011

Sorry Ravensmyst I do not believe rule are open to interpretation. Rules are rules, they have them there for a reason, you either can or you cant. There is no grey area. Oh and as for those going on about showing a neutered dog in neuter classes, when I showed in Victoria very few shows actually had them.
-
Ravensmyst, its no good showing me topics regarding the showing of desexed dogs or chemically castrated dogs because we are talking about vasectomies and they are not the same as castrations or chemical castrations. As said before Castration affects the appearance and behaviour of the dog as does chemical castration, vasectomy does not, so can not be classed as the same. As I also said before, dog shows are conformation shows becasue they are judged on their conformation, not their ability to breed. In my rules and regulations book it states " Neuter: Any male or female dog that has been desexed either by castration or ovarian hysterectomy and is rendered infertile. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE VASECTOMIES (Neuters may compete in veteran class or optional neuter class 15,16,17,18- see rule 112)" Therefore a dog that has had a vasectomy can not compete in neuter classes as it is not considered a neuter. And for the record "Entire Male Dog means for the purpose of these rules a male dog which once having become 6 months of age, exhibits two apparently normal testicals fully descended in the scrotum" (a castrated or chemically castrated dog does not a dog with a vasectomy does) and "Non Entire: means a male dog which is either chryptorchid or monorchid" (a dog with a vasectomy is neither) So what it comes down to is it is perfectly acceptable to show a dog that has had a vasectomy and whether you or anyone else doesnt like it is a moot point because its not against the rules. Despite what it may seem Im really not that hung up on the issue, however I find it odd that people want to argue that it is wrong when clearly according to the rules it is not. Im not disagreeing about anything the rules are what they are, there is nothing to disagree about
-
Ravensmyst, who seriously frowns upon it? There are going to be people who dont like it but tough titties its not against the rules, like showing a desexed bitch is. DOgs being chemically castrated are a different kettle of fish imo. From what I have read the chemical causes the testes to shrink, therefor not being "apparently normal" anymore and also alters behaviour as they are no longer producing hormones, where as a dog that has a vasectomy is exactly the same in looks and behaviour as any other male that hasnt had a vasectomy. There are so many ordinary dogs out in the show ring or dogs that have health problems that are being bred from I hardly think dogs being shown with vasectomies is something for people to upset about. It doesnt make any sense to me why someone would frown on it, when it gives the dog no advantage and is not against the rules whatsoever. As for a naturally sterile dog I dont have a problem with them being shown either. So what, they can not produce, it should not matter, considering it is a conformation show and not a show to see who can produce the most puppies. MissMonaro nobody said anything about giving a dog a vasectomy becasue it was sterile, that would be kind of pointless. The dogs that are being shown that have had vasectomies or are naturally sterile are being judged on their conformation, people can see what is being produced by breeders, surely that is better than having nice conformationally sound dogs locked away in peoples back yards because they cant be shown. Not everyone wants to breed but would love to show. I have had a male dobe in the past and was forever paranoid he would get to one of my Bullmastiff bitches. I have never had any interest to breed dobes, I just love showing them. If I was ever in that position again, knowing what I know now, I would have him collected and give him a vasectomy. Meea, a dog that has had a vasectomy will still behave like a male that hasnt, they just cant sire a litter

Very sad When my chase was not well, my vets thought he would need a major operation to have part of his lung removed. We had to drive to a specialist in Melbourne asap and get it done that night (it was about 8pm when I ws told). He rang around all the specialist vets and they all wanted money upfront, which I understand however, where was I supposed to pull a few thousand from in the middle of the night? They didnt care, they just wanted it. I thought that was unfair. I was happy to pay money but I had no means of withdrawing that amount from the bank. Turns out we didnt need an op. I loved my vets too, I had an account there and they were very good with me. I always paid my account on time but now I have moved, I have to find a new vet and none of the vets here allow accounts :D . If only I could give them my vets number to give me a reference. I guess I can try that if there is ever an emergency, then again I also have pet insurance, so they might take that into account.

Chase is often Chazzy, Chazmo or Cheezel Kalais, usually gets Lay Lay or Kalalais Kijana gets Yani, Yana or bitch Keisha gets Keeshy, Keesh Kobe, who is going to his new home this weekend gets Kobo, Bobo, Wowo/s or Momo Pepe gets Peppernee, snippet, sneppernee And Sniffy gets Sniff, Sniffo, sniffno, sniffernee, snifferno and quite often I say Pippy and Sneffy rather than Pepe and Sniffy Its good to see Im not the only one that comes up with silly names for my dogs, lol.

Yes, that is right Flaves I also rang dogs QLD, after reading their rules and regulations and asked them and they said you can because a vasectomy is reversible. How is it cheating MM, it is not enhancing the dog in any way, not giving it any advantage at all? It cant be cheating if its not against the rules. ETA: I do not show a dog that has had a vsaectomy, however I dont have an issue with those that do, as it does not give them an advantage in any way. What about dogs that have their testes but are naturally sterile? Are they cheating too?
-
I was under the impression(and I think so are alot of people) you could not show a dog in normal classes that had had a vasectomy. But I found out yesterday you can. Did anyone else know this?

Thanks for that I have a question though; I have a dog that resides back in Victoria that is still in my name. I ha e her dogs Vic issued papers here with my old membership number on it. She needs to be transferred into the person that has her name. How will that work as I no longer have the membership number or address that is on her papers? I was going to ring dogs qld but since I cant until tomorrow thought I would put it on here ETA: thanks for the welcome Oakway

I moved from Vic to QLD. I transferred my prefix and and have become a member of Dogs QLD. I recieved my membership card etc in the mail yesterday. Since my dogs papers were issued in Vic, am I supposed to get new ones from Dogs QLD? If I do will the dogs have a different registration number or will it stay the same. They havent sent me any, do I have to transfer all my dogs over? On the membership form I filled out it asked for their reg numbers, so Im not sure if there is anything else I need to do. Hope someone can shed some light for me

I know of a breeder who had a pup in a litter with this. She was a gorgeous little thing, smaller than the others, couldnt move as well and had the head tilt happening. But she had the injections and made a full recovery. I know it would have been horrible to find her like that but dont lose hope.

Is A Blue Stafford Breeder Unethical?
Kaffy Magee replied to mr.mister's topic in General Dog Discussion
I saw an add in ouir local paper the other day for registered "blue staffies". Females were $2000 males $1750. They have a website, so I had a look today. They have had a litter in September, October and December and apparently even though they dont show and never have, the puppies they breed are all show quality. And all come with main papers. Makes me sick. -
And one more cos I think he's spunky ;)
-
Thanks guys, its such a bad age,I love them as babies and then as mature adults, just wish I could skip the in between, lol!. He'll be staying no matter what, I love this boy so much, and after nearly losing him late October we have formed a really really close bond. Here are a couple of pics of the boy, apart from the top line atm Im happy with the rest of him ;) Fingers crossed for all of you waiting for the change too

Just looking at some photos I took today of my 8 months old Bullmastiff pup. He has been bum high for a little while, maybe not as bad now but still has a bit of a dippy topline at the moment. Im fairly confident it will come good. Both parents have lovely toplines, as does his grandfather (double up) and both grandmothers and his topline was fine as a baby and as they say they should come back to what they were at 8 weeks. I know at this age pups can go through this stage but at what age would you expect a topline to start to firm up. Bad topline is one of my pet hates and when I look at this boy thats all I see, of course, lol. As I said Im pretty sure it will come good, just wondering when! I hate the growing stage

Caboolture Show - Entries Still Open
Kaffy Magee replied to MissMonaro's topic in General Dog Discussion
This will be my first show in QLD! We just shifted here 10 days ago and I've been dying to get back to the showring! I can't wait! What sort of numbers do you normally get at this show? -
Hervey Bay is in QLD Lollapalooza. I refuse to pay $1000 that is ridiculous especially when I know it can be done for less. I'm not sure what to do now. Maybe I should try and ring a few places further along the coast. I didn't want to have to go too far though. If anyone knows a vet that would do it for a decent price in qld please let me know. Cheers KM.
