  1. My Lab Henrietta had surgery for hock ocd when she was 6 months old. After she recovered from her surgery, Henrietta was probably good for a month then started to become progressively lame and uncomfortable. She developed very bad arthritis and it got to the stage where I often had to carry her to bed at night, she was always in pain(despite being on painkillers and anti inflamatories) and I wondered about her quality of life. A hock arthrodesis (fusion) was the only way to take away her pain, Henrietta had this procedure about 12 months after her first surgery (to remove the cartildge flap), its a salvage procedure and required 6 weeks in a cast. She did need further surgery to help with the fusion which required more time in a cast but now nearly 12 months since her last surgery she is like a new dog, so happy and pain free ! She can run, jump and play just like a normal Lab, something I never thought she would be able to do :D She does have a bit of a funny walk but is not in pain. Has your dog seen a specialist?
  2. I have had 2 Lab pups with puppy strangles and both of them has swollen lymph nodes everywhere.....neck, shoulders, belly and back legs. Does the puppy have pustules on its face/ears/belly?
  3. Just a couple of things......... This would be in relation to a pre existing condition eg..if the dog already has a cruciate problem in one leg, they will not pay for that condition in another leg. If you dog is insured before any problems have developed all legs will be covered. With PetPlan they have an option where the vet can be paid directly from the company athough the vet must approve of this. Is is pretty standard to expect to pay for treatment upfront. I provide vet histories with every claim and would not expect any claim to be paid without providing a history. I think with most companines the full policy period must be paid for even if the dog dies.
  4. I have Henrietta (a nearly 3year old lab)insured with PetPlan. Have never had any problems with any claims, my last claims were paid within a week. I have claimed probably around $18,000 since insuring Henrietta at 12 weeks of age. I pay $100 excess per year per condition and conditions are covered for life. Henrietta has multiple joint issues and all her pain meds and monthly cartrophen shots are covered. I would highly recomend PetPlan to anyone
  5. When I renewed my PetPlan policy it had gone up a massive( ) $1 for the year...can't complain about that! I have made several claims maybe around $16,000 in 2 years
  6. Hope you all had a good day.........decided I did not want to drive 100km and stand around in the rain. Took the dogs bush walking (in the rain) instead. Next time

  8. I know every time I say I will come something happens and I can't make it! But (at risk of jinxing myself) hopefully Henrietta and Teddy (Labs) will make it this time!!
  9. slightly ot .........but if your dog already has problems, wouldn't it be too late to take out insurance in the hope that the itching etc would be covered? I know when making a claim I have to write the date symptoms first appeared so if you don't already have insurance I doubt you would be covered.
  10. I have 10 of these trees in my garden, I have not ever seen my Labs eat the berries. Have never thought about them being poisonous!!!
  11. Henrietta, who is 2 is insured with Pet Plan and I have only good things to say about them! They have always been great to deal with and I have claimed probably around over $18,000 since insuring Henrietta at 12 weeks old. Putting money away in a piggy bank would have never prepared me for all of Henrietta's vet expenses and I will insure all my future pups
  12. James Bond, good to see another Lab will be there. Hopefully my girls, Henrietta and Teddy, will play with your boy! I probably will not bring anything for lunch, I do not really eat lunch and also I am trying to watch what I eat
  13. PetPlan..........I pay $100 excess per year for each condition. So for the last year out of the thousands I claimed for Henrietta's hock ocd I have only paid $100
  14. Everytime I plan to come something happens to Henrietta so hopefully I am not jinxing her! She is back in action after surgery on her hock and I cannot wait for her to have fun in the pool again! pip1981- Dakota and Tika dobesrock - Acheron & Odie Pointees - April and Shaun KJ- Teddy and Henrietta Yummies: pip1981- plates, cups, cutlery, condiments, marinated chicken wings, pasta salad and more... dobesrock- bread rolls and cheesecake (will definately bring it this time!) Pointees - Fairy bread, chocolate cake, and pigs ears KJ-not sure
  15. When you make a claim you will be asked if your dog has been seen by any other vets/clinics, so as you have seen more than one vet both would be contacted and asked to provide a full history.
  16. Henrietta had vaginitis when I insured her, this is listed as an exclusion (for life) on her insurance policy.
  17. Just a thought, a couple of years ago I had a pup with neosporosis When I took her for a consult with an internal medical specialist he said the symptoms very similar to that of distemper.
  18. GoldenRules.........Henrietta has ED and OCD of the hock. She had arthroscopic surgery on her elbows and after the initial surgery on her hock, to remove the ocd fragment, last year she had a tarsal arthrodesis (hock fusion) and had to have the surgery recently repeated after some small joint spaces returned to motion. So all her specialist visits/surgery, pain meds, xrays, scans, cartrophen injections etc are paid for Have also claimed for several smaller things including a tooth extraction. :D So as I have claimed around $18,000 and have just paid my 3rd premium of around $500 (so $1500 total) it is easy to see why I think pet insurance is worth it
  19. Bonnie Pup: what is the condition that is not being paid for? Henrietta, who is 2 is insured with Pet Plan and I have only good things to say about them! They have always been great to deal with and I have claimed probably around over $18,000 since insuring Henrietta at 12 weeks old. I will insure all my future pups :D
  20. Great photos, I alway love your pics
  21. "I have a good friend who's looking for a chocolate labrador and she wants me to help her find a good registered breeder. I have been in two minds in helping her and writing this, but I figured, there is no harm in asking this. Her situation: 1 - This dog will be an outside dog only (she won't consider crating the dog... her husband and her don't like dog smell) 2 - The dog is for their son for his 1st birthday (the baby is currently 4 months old) 3 - She is thinking of having another baby in about a year time 4 - The husband and her work full time. But she works 2 days at home though (but for how long, I don't know.. she may have to go back to the office full time in 2 months) 5 - I think (or have suggested) that she brings the puppy to her mum's place to play with the mum's dog while she looks after the baby but she isn't sure if her mum will be happy with this. 6 - Not sure about the exercise... although if her husband put in his effort on things, the pup will be walked everyday. 7 - they really really want a puppy I'm not sure if any breeder will sell her a pup in those situation. If so, is there any good breeders that I can pass on the info to her. She really wants a chocolate Labrador. It's the only dog that her and her husband has agreed on. " Why do they even want a dog? There is no way I would sell these people a puppy and doubt that any "good registered breeder" would!! I pitty the poor pup these people end up with.
  22. Great photos......as usual ;)
  23. I think it took around 3 weeks for my pups(Rudi the one how got it at 6 weeks) face to clear up. Henrietta who got strangles at 12 weeks took around 2 months to clear up. How is you baby now?
