A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Leah82 replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
I've met a number of boy puppies that were prone to excitement piddles, what's his demeanor like when he's dripping? -
I did a ring around, looks like city farmers are the best bet as no-one else seems to stock it. I even called my Vet will have to go after work tomorrow, luckily they close at 6. and in better news the 9.1 to 18kg packet covers both our dogs, One is just over 9kgs and the other is about 13kgs which usually means I have to buy two packets

awesome thanks, I did some searching for comfortis and found it for $83 for 6 tabs at city farmers. Might give my local pet store a call as well and see if they have it. Now to figure out how to get my hands on it, bit hard when the OH drops me at work most days as is usually too busy to have lunch at work let alone find time to drive to the pet store when they're open

blah, I just went home to open a few windows after we flea bombed our home, no evidence of further infestation which is good however a quick check of Sarah showed up a couple of fleas still alive and kicking. Need to get this sorted before the weekend as we are going camping for a few days which means a few hours in the car with the dogs and sleeping in the same tent for a few nights :p Any suggestions as to where we can go from here, is it ok to wash them with the flea shampoo again a day or so later?
-
I did wait until they were fully dried before putting on the preventative, I wasn't aware you had to wait any longer than that. I will be keeping a close eye on both of them for awhile I think so will reapply if it's not working. Thanks for the tip about the shampoo and tea, I won't wash him again this soon but I guess I can apply the rinse to the sensitive areas without getting him wet all over

I was giving the dogs a brush yesterday morning before taking them to the Big Day Out for dogs and discovered fleas and lots of them Sarah seemed fine and quite happy to share her life with a few (or 20) parasites but Collie has come up in red blotchy skin, we didn't notice the extra scratching he's been doing as he generally enjoys a frequent scratch for no particular reason. So at this point we abandoned our day's plans to deal with the flea issue. I washed them with flea shampoo, re-applied their flea preventative (which I've been a bit lax with because they don't usually get exposed), we used some surface spray outside and this morning set off a couple of flea bombs in the house before going to work. I'm pretty sure we've covered all bases to get rid of them but in the mean time Collie is still pretty red and itchy. Does anyone have any suggests on how we can give him some relief while his skin recovers?

this is the first I've heard of this scam, pretty despicable stuff. are they calling landlines or mobiles or both? I haven't had a landline for a very very long time so that could explain why I've not come across it.

maybe a martingale collar could be a happy medium? It will tighten just enough to act as a correction but no more so you don't risk harming your puppy. then again a training tool like that is only going to useful if you know how to use it effectively, this is where the help of a trainer will be a big benefit btw did you end up getting a play pen for your puppy so she can be contained and play with her toys without having to go into the crate?

and for another look at Kepala, here's something I prepared earlier :) unfortunately we weren't able to show all the dogs, also we tried to reduce the amount of people featured but that lens in very wide :)

yay more christmas doggies! so very cute T&S, we got our outfits from ebay, for a cool $11.26 for both outfits including delivery :p I'm not expecting them to last very long -
Looking forward to seeing the pics of Sarah in her life jacket Rick tried to do some video editing yesterday but my old home laptop wasn't too keen on playing the really high res clips. I'll have a go tonight using my work laptop

Hey in one of them the ball is on the ground not in his mouth! As I was going through the photos, I was trying to make sure I posted at least one of every dog, when I got to the end of my prelim selection (there may have been 500+ photos taken ) there was none of doggie Sarah. I was like what's that about? Then I realised it's because she is with/behind Collie in every single photo! I had to do a tight crop on one to get one of her running by herself! I thought about how you said you got her for Collie as he is going blind and it is so lovely that she will go everywhere with him. Every time he ran off after his ball there she is running with him, waits for him to get the ball, then runs back with him, it is so sweet, she really is looking after him. Every photo of doggie Amber also has Rosie stitched to her side too . I think Sarah is still using Collie as her security blanket, although hopefully when his eye sight gets worse she'll step up and start leading the way for him :) You should see them at the park when it's just the two of them, she just jumps all over him as he's trying to find the ball - more of a hindrance that a help  Thanks for your kind words though :) I'm glad other people can see how adorable they are together

Last minute question: do we need to bring picnic chairs?
-
sorry you can't make it pip We have napkins so I can bring those and the OH is already picking up some chicken skewers with the sausages. I'll just get him to grab some soft drink now as well.

Ringwood is at the east end of the eastern fwy, so a bit over 30 mins in the car

Hey Nushie, Where abouts in Melbourne are you. I have a cocker who loves a good play and is also usually on the receiving end of a telling off by other dogs when he doesn't have him ball to distract him, usually Sarah. I was just commenting to my OH last night. When Collie barks, we tell Collie off When Sarah barks... we tell Collie off :p I'm not sure how that'll help with Jager's manners but it is nice to have dogs with similar temperaments play together Edit: FYI I'm in Ringwood

Thanks for sharing :) Just reading the comments and it seems he'd prefer a home as an only dog, not sure about toilet training though.

We had the very definition of a mutt growing up (beagle, border collie and dachshund were in there to name a few). He died at about 16 and from memory he started slowing with arthritis down around 12. My inlaws put down their cocker this week at about 15 and a half, from what I've been told she slowed around 12 as well. They probably left it a bit late to PTS though as they had to make a rush call to the Vet after she lost the use of her back legs this week despite years of chronic ear infections, deafness, dementia and heart problems Ours are nearly 6 and 8 and aren't showing any signs of slowing down (expect at night time for Collie with his PRA). I suspect Sarah will take awhile to slow down as with her past she hasn't had much use of her joints up until now.

Ok we did a little photo shoot with the dogs tonight in their new Christmas outfits, some need a bit of editing before I put them up but with this one I just couldn't resist sharing it straight away :p -
I thought I would share this here. Kippers is being looked after by the rescue that I got Sarah though and he's been looking for a forever home for 6 months I'm sure he would be very grateful if his details could be shared around :) http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/246245 https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.709751085703393.1073741844.202870679724772&type=1
