That lens has such epic reach!!! Jealous (my 230mm of limpness just doesn't cut it haha).
-
Nice work keeping her(?) within frame!!! The upside down one, second diving one and maybe the last one are faves.

Some wonderful shots in this thread. Not being something I've tried to really shoot much (birds) the opportunity came up at the local wetlands yesterday when out walking/exploring with the hound. Pelicans are perhaps a bit boring/common, got to test the camera on something other than dogs at least haha, seems birds are easier work for it than dogs! ^This, I wouldn't worry about it. Modern society seems to have some weird monetary values on things, the same person that seemingly thought $5 bucks was too much for a great capture of their most beloved dog in action, a shot that most people cannot replicate, and certainly cannot that moment again. They did however more than likely spent $5 on some boiling water with some coffee in it the following morning.

Some Dog/pet Shots With My New Toy Fujifilm X-t1 - Feat. Striker!

Cheers :) . Was the first 'semi' photoshoot (be it just for a friend) I've done with the owner willing/wanting to go to a location and help out......... well no that the staffy listened at all, it was best to get Striker to herd him up or the tennis ball, haha. -
You've done really well, some awesome shots in there. Flicking through your Flickr it seems the long lens (600mm) got most of the use, seems to have worked nicely! LOL at Kirislin's comment about 'keeper rates', every time is switch the camera to 'constant high burst' shooting, it triggers something in my brain that says 'be conservative, you have go troll through all this later in LR dopey' haha. I guess the positive with the lure coursing is you have a much better idea of the past they are (or well should) be following.

Haven't played with this myself but it is a cool effect. I think a tripod would certainly make post processing time easier/quicker. For me the wide angle sequences work best.
-
Awesome, he loves it! Black dog on white snow, doesn't get much harder to shoot, you've done pretty good hey!!
-
Nice Shots and what awesome happy dogs! The sprint/pull racing is cool as!!!. I go Mountain Biking pretty often with my boy, maybe I need a harness to make life easier on the hills..........for me at least haha.

Cool dog! She certainly can pull a good 'sook' face! lol.

haha true. I'm hanging for the 50-140 2.8 (which will be $$$'s no doubt, 75-210mm equiv ). The XC 50-230mm is still sharp and clean, just slow, so once the lights fading it's not much chop, and really keen to be able to isolate subjects in a wide range of locations. That lens wont be out till the end of the year apparently though, it would be really interesting seeing the X-T1 with that equivalent lens (be it probably lots cheaper and lighter than L glass)and how it holds up in the same shots/shooting style vs the big boys over multiple days, *ultimate test. *I shall contact FujiFilm now and get them to sponsor me + provide pre-release lens to use! haha /dreaming. You do have me looking at 'options' juggling funds now though. haha. -

Cheers :) Oh that sucks SirSnook! Guessing you would have taken the X-T1 too?. Would have been interesting to hear thoughts/comments as I've little doubt it would be an SLR camp. It would be pretty awesome, being sensible with funds are the only issue. -

It's probably the best dog beach on GC I think, combo of creek and surf. The earlier pics of striker are all at the same beach. -

Palm Beach, those shots were taken in Currumbin Creek, at low tide there is a sand bar in the middle you can wade out across to. -

Went to the beach on the weekend with some friends and their Border Collie to get some pics. Hadn't shot a black and white dog before so was keen, Striker didn't really get much camera action at all haha. It was the first time he actually swam too and I didn't even get it snap it! lol. ^ I was semi thinking the same thing. I think with more practice in shooting and post + some more gear (faster 2.8 tele zoom will get later this year for one, + some lighting stuff) can improve myself, experience, time and practice can't be replaced with simple 'knowledge' when it comes to photography. It's managing the dogs and probably more so the owners (haha), somewhat being a movie director to get one one really wants is where the most practice is going to be needed. Need to use more friends and their dogs to get this happening haha. In saying that I still have no doubt though that I'd learn heaps of little things (and not necessarily just technical)I hadn't even considered in such a workshop. The fun factor would probably be enough alone if stupid cash wasn't a concern lol. Haha, that's a classic, bonus they probably have is living/working states apart and not really 'competing'. Charlotte's very active on social media and very open with info etc, which begs much respect when it's you're bread and butter. -

I have seen that, and super tempted. Are you going? So much knowledge there! Kaylee's shots made me think about not just getting a wide angle for the usual landscapes and architecture type stuff. After Harv & Chilli's (my last two dogs with cancers) many $10k's expenses I've only sort of got my credit card and funds to a 1/2 ok level (well still spending money I don't have on camera gear haha). I should perhaps maybe look at it as an investment rather than an expense though.............hmmmmmm. Charlotte does also do her own private workshops but as one would understand not for anyone considering setting up a similar business in her own backyard haha. -

The responses above are a fair portion of why I'd love to make a living (or part there of) out of it. Owners have such an awesome emotional attachment to their pets, capturing their spirit in time forever can mean so much. Oh and it's also heaps of fun. I current shoot for a few rescues to help out, bonus is some experience too. Kirislin, some greats shots of your own! looking through your redbubble. Which is an interesting avenue I haven't considered and will look into. Have you had many buy your work on there? While Ken from Zoo Studio kick started me shooting my two, looking further a-field and loving dogs in their 'natural' environment it's work from the likes of Charlotte Reeves, and as you mention Ruthless etc that's given me a level of direction and inspiration. -

cheers all. I figure a bunch of dog/pet lovers would be the best to ask this, mind you it feels weird asking. It's pretty obvious I love shooting dogs/pets, and as I get a little more experience and a broader range of gear I'm considering making a business of it in the future (on the side for a while at least, how awesome would it be for a living! :) haha). I guess would love to hear peoples thoughts from a pet owners perspective on how close some of the images are perhaps getting to what people may be willing to pay for. I print largeformat as my day job, which gives me the opportunity to offer a product range also at good pricing. -
Good move practicing full manual. While often shooting in priority mode is perfectly fine (I usually use A ) there are times where it just wont cut it, it's then when previous play time really helps to lock in what you need set quickly. I wouldn't worry to much about flash, especially for the type of shot's you've taken, it would have likely ruined them. Direct flash can be a nasty thing that can sap what draws one into the image. Handy if you really need to get a pic, less so if you're trying to be creative, well unless you really get into strobe lighting/systems an make it work for your shots.

Picture Of My Puppy.. Love To Hear Feedback!
Spoony replied to SirMick's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
The shooting angle and wide lens angle works really well. I can see the eyes are in focus, which is great, but the only thing I'd suggest with such a wide shot is ensuring the noes is also in focus, sacrificing some focus at the back end of the dog if need be, though you might be able to stop it down a fair bit to achieve this depending what lighting you had available. Being a bit picky I know, capturing 'that moment/pose' especially with pup's is a challenge to begin with! -

I figured, being a bit more active on here of late with a new pup and camera, I'd post up these videos I made at the start of the year in memory of Harvey & Chilli. Back it this time I use the forum and users for info and help with their struggles. Harvey was 6 years old, a Traditional (bonemouth) Shar-pei whom got Lymphona. He was on chemo which gave him another 15 months of good times. Chilli was a Shar-pei cross (maybe dingo? lol), she was to be a friend for Harv during his last 6 or so months. Sadly less than 6 months after I got her she had a tumor that had grown off the front of her brain which was un-treatable and took her before Harvey left me, certainly didn't expect that one. She didn't even make it to 2 years. Anyways I figure they both deserve their place on here. Harv's video is somewhat longer given 6 years with him vs Chilli's 6 months. Not sure how to embed youtube on this forum? Harvey Chilli
