I've had consults with both K9-pro and Kersti and I'd lean towards Steve for this dog. We did not have a bad experience with Kersti by any means, just Steve's approach clicked for me.

If you believe you can put the money away and not dip into it for frivolous unplanned purposes - then perhaps a special bank account with attached Visa or Mastercard branded debit card. If the funds available are only likely to cover part of a big bill ($3000 snake bite and only $1000 in the bank account) then clearly you'd need a credit source as well to cover you while you build up your reserves. I would tend to avoid a GE type facility for 'just in case' as storing a positive balance in it may not be possible (may be against t & c) and they won't give you any interest on your balance. And they'll charge you for the privilege. I can see that it may help flatten out the cash flow, esp if you have multiple pets and human health bills too. But if you have a little to put away regularly it would be more cost effective to use a bank account (imo, natch).

Great news that you can get treatment for your pup! This type of product is a god-send for those of us caught without the 'readies'. Do read the fine print and make sure those payments are on time though .. the interest rates and penalties can be savage when you get into late payment territory. If you haven't already - join the IBDogs group on yahoogroups. There's a wealth of info about canine IBD and a lot of support. A lot about diet - although discussion of 'out there' treatments are discouraged. My local vet knew nothing about IBD - we just stuck with our lovely specialist (Sydney). Finding food they can tolerate is so hard ... I hope you can find something that works for her quickly.

If the footpath is that hot then the heat radiating off it is probably too much for the dog to be exercising anyway. There can be quite a difference in temp between human head height and down on the footpath where the dogs are. (my dogs were double coated, so I was very careful about heat)

I'd be interested in hearing your method for this. Maybe you could start another thread just for it. actually you can It's just a matter of training them to go ON COMMAND .. and then,when walking, there is no peeing or pooing except where YOU want them to go . I trained many many dogs to do this, when doing Guide dog training ...as a lot of guide dogs go to work ..and at pee breaks , there is often only a small area in which toileting is possible/permitted. Must admit- seeing dogs peeing everywhere when walking is a pet hate of mine

They called you the King of the Pound. My big placid boy who was never much bothered by other dogs ... well, except for the malt next door. You got over your fear of garbage trucks but never really trusted little girls wearing pink - although your only reaction was to want to run away, not a mean bone in you. You seemed sent to help heal our hearts in 2004 when we lost Neelix - and stayed just long enough to begin to help us mourn Suki. I'm not sure our hearts will recover this time.

We've been having some problems with our old boy. We know that, realistically, he won't be with us much longer as his rear end weakness is beginning to impact on his quality of life. But in the meantime - because his exercise level has reduced - so has his frequency of bowel motions. He's always been a dog that needed a good walk to get him going. Extra veges, cooked pumpkin doesn't really seem to help. The vet suggested psyllium which I've started today. Has anyone had any experience with it for keeping aged dogs "going" ? How much do you feed? Any other suggestions? (he's 39kg) He's on previcox and tramal (which very helpfully (not) has the side effect of constipation). He's under the care of a vet and an animal physio.

floorboards with non-slip mats all over because my old boy can't handle the boards. every day... ... hah hahh haa ... falls off chair. I have a hall runner mainly to mute the sound of dog stomping at night. My old girl was incontinent so the runner was a cheapy and the boards easy to clean.

I've had a similar thing happen with a security company ... they just didn't bother deducting for ages and then sold the "debt" to a fairly pushy debt collection company ... not happy Jan. I check my statements pretty thoroughly for trx that should NOT be there ... somehow it's more challenging to check for things that should be and aren't. Time for another bloody checklist.

I do think the bowel obstruction scenario was exaggeration for effect (and a little dark humour) but the caller was scary indeed. The presenter distances himself from her comments later in the segment .. A comment later on by Angela Catterns(?) that the rule should be that you look after costs for your own dog because (paraphrasing here) shit happens was worrying too... she gave a cat example so perhaps her dog park knowledge is limited.

Disturbing but at the same time somehow hilarious response on ABC sydney radio this afternoon to the question of who pays the vet bill when dogs fight at the park. I could describe it but it really should just be listened to. Link to online recording of the segment. (It would be disturbing if anyone took it as actual advice)
