Thanks MM - thats a very good point - there are two barking mini schnauzers across the road and a dog behind a fence next to them and another down the road - interestingly opposite the people who I think might have complained. Hmnn... Might get the mother on point duty Monday if it isn't too hot while I think of some way to record... thanks! audacity is free to download and works well - it has a nice graphical interface so that you can actually see from the soundwave pattern when a dog has barked - saves having to listen to hours of audio :-) I can pick a bark from a plane from a winge after a bit of practice.

That sounds promising - if he is up to standard perhaps ask her to mentor you. Head on over to the akita thread and show us some pics too!

Delta Society Seminar In Grafton
dwynwen replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The 2-day one that is the intro to their trainer program? I went last year in Sydney - and really enjoyed it. I would happily listen to Kerrie talk all day for 2 days - a week for that matter. I considered doing the course but decided not to due to the narrow focus on purely positive (and the cost). But the two days was interesting and worth the investment as a standalone (IMNSHO). -
We're also a long time patient of All Natural at Russell Lea - Karen has been beyond great with some difficult conditions and one particularly difficult dog ... I understand completely the "where did I go wrong" thinking .... it's natural and we all do it.

I'll vouch for Veronika Langova - she's very good with canines and their very worried owners. My boy had a surgery done at North Ryde by Stephen Fearnside - He's very good if you need a surgeon All the best with your girl.

OR this one from Etsy for big treats - or lots of small ones ....

I've been using chicken jerky from aussiepethealthtreats.com.au - all Australian sourced and processed. Hope you get a diagnosis and treatment plan for your girl soon Lilypily.

NSW, Sydney Brush Farm Dog Training Club http://brushfarm.com.au Brush Farm Park, Cnr Marsden Road and Lawson Street, Eastwood, NSW, 2122. Primarily an obedience club, with a bit of agility. Training is on Sundays. They allow martingale collars and check chains, but do not insist on any particular collar. Grounds are dedicated to the dog club while training is on (ie does not take place in the middle of an off lead dog park!) Brief info from the website. -
I want a cat just so I can get one of those funky hollow things....

We've always used an upturned reycling crate as a step which worked pretty well but we have a ute to put it in (dogs in back of dual cab), I've been eyeing off these rollup ones from ramp4paws though .. never seen one in australia. The big one is fairly heavy (15.75lbs). cleanrun have them too. Ramp4Paws 18-Link Dog Ramp

Me too. Assuming the boat wasn't about to go to the bottom and I was in a position to wait then it makes sense to save the dog and come back for me - the dog is less able to rescue itself. ... Of course I wouldn't be out there in the first place .....

Denise Fenzi - Seminar Announcement
dwynwen replied to Jigsaw's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It was brilliant - I was there as an auditor. I really appreciate the handlers being willing to put themselves out there in front of an audience. Loved the way Denise did/said NOTHING to make any handler or dog feel bad about themselves in any way. Awesome trainer. -
Bushwalks/ Conditioning Walks/ State Forests
dwynwen replied to leopuppy04's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am near a national park, a state forest and lots of private bushland (NSW) - wild dog baiting is usually done around this time of year - although the SF would have notices, I'm fairly sure some of the land owners would be less diligent - it's particularly annoying as in the summer my dog can't run offlead on my own property for fear of snakes and in the winter I worry about baits relocated onto my place from the neighbours..... eta: I have had a dog snakebit in June - I realise they're there all the time. -
K9pro leather leash all the way - not cheap but will last a long long long time.

A city person with a country property (or connections to someone with one) would be able to access 1080 pretty easily - although there would hopefully be a paper trail. That said - there are other poisons more readily available to those crazy enough to want them. Hoping this was just an innocent upchuck or some dog burying his treats.

Went to Castle Hill for a looksee today - there were Huskies, mallys, lots of staffy type guys, a couple of rottweilers and a samoyed (apologies to any I've missed) Seemed like lots of fun. Next time I might take a dog!

I had an akita bitch who used to have occasional episodes like that - she was eventually diagnosed with a heart problem and put on heart meds - she did not have another seizure once she was on the heart meds and lived to be 13.

There are some who disagree with the concept - there was an article in the Age recently. Age article about yellow ribbon/bandanna etc (I don't agree with their argument - just putting it up for interest)

Ours is a front load Siemens .. I've finally worked out that we need the cleverest machine we can find. I hate hate hate handwashing and this one does it for me. Not too bad with the hair but I still use the dryer to shake the last of it off.
