When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
Malakita replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
We are going interstate a couple of times this year and have booked really nice dog friendly accommodation. One allows pets on furniture and the second one doesn't allow pets in the bedrooms (it is carpeted) nor on furniture. Our two are not allowed on furniture at home anyway. So we will see how both places pan out. -
The general public don't know etiquette most times so asking about a puppy is no different . When I was looking for my first puppy, I was obviously calling at the wrong times, so I emailed breeders. It is wasn't just a hi, how much either. . I barely got a response. It was very disappointing. The same happened with the second puppy also. So I don't know. The breed I didn't go with, Siberian Huskies, the breeders were brilliant.

Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
Malakita replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Gapvic, of course you are upset and saddened. And very understandably so. I feel so much for you at this time . But a few others have rightly said that if people are going to be so judgemental based on what they 'think' they know about Greyhounds, then they do not deserve to own one. I am so sorry you are going through this. All the Greyhounds I have seen are so well behaved. Not interested in other dogs. I even saw one today walking with a small fluffy. I felt bad for the owner though. We kept looking at her not because she has a grey but because we were wanting to keep some distance between us. My girl isn't terribly friendly. -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations

Gapvic why did you delete your post? I met a guy who adopted a grey from you guys and he is so loved and so docile. How can people make such ignorant comments! -
Her story made my heart break particularly when she said that was the last nice thing they ever did for him. I do empathize for her. So many of you slammed her, branding her a less than perfect owner. I am not defending her actions but I can understand how and why it all went so wrong. Too many people think a dog is just a dog. No biggie. And they assume when people who own dogs will just give up their dogs simply because children come into the equation. After all, it is just a dog. I have two dogs now and if children came along ( never going to happen ) they would never be shafted just because of children. But I know people would give me ther misguided 2 cents. We have to to realize that here on this forum, we are not your average dog owners. We are committed to our dogs for life, no matter what. We will go to the ends of the earth to be dedicated owners. And we need to remember that most of the public are not like this. For example, I told someone recently we want to take (drive) our dogs across 1 or 2 states for a few short trips. He looked at me Iike I was crazy. He said kennel them. Then I felt I was justifying myself as to why I am bringing them along. They don't understand. And to cowanbree, I felt fat drops of tears fall when I read your post about Jasper. I am so sorry.

Hi all, The last time we went away, I got a lovely girl to look after our animals. But now she is working in another job as well. So I am just putting out my feelers in case I need an option B. It also wouldn't hurt to have someone else anyway. So if anyone has used someone really trustworthy and very reliable, please let me know. There are no dogs involved as they are coming with us. It is more the poultry, 2 cats and cocky that need looking after. It is a pretty easy job.

I was at that Knox City pet store the night before Denra Tranter was there. All the water bows had minimal amount of water in them, definitely not more than a couple of cms. The malamute puppy had just had the squirts right in front of us and I went to tell the girl. Other girl very begrudgingly came to clean the diarrhoea. She didn't even clean the glass on which it had squirted onto. We stood there until they cleaned the enclosure. And yes, the staff are always chatting when I walk past. So they have the time. Why can't pet shop animas just be banned? It seems simple in theory.

Pity you don't need tablets. I have 8 never touched 50 mg tablets sitting around doing nothing. My boy was on 100 mg twice daily , then 50 mg twice a day, and it was still too strong and he weighs more than 10 times your dog.

Yes, very good video. He seems like a real nice vet. Lucky patients.

The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17

Awesome digging pics! They look so happy and pleased with their gigantic hole :) -
That IS wonderful news! Poor puppy! Thank dog for home security cameras.

I agree. So you reward the breeder for doing something dodgy. And now you complain? Unfortunately - this just means they will probably do it to someone else. I agree with the research part not helping. I thought I had done my research. Found what I thought was a responsible, ethical and reputable breeder. And this was my second pedigree puppy in less than15 months. I thought I knew what I was doing. I was so sucked in in the end.

This sounds very similar to what we went through last year. That is one hell of an unethical breeder! Your son has my deepest empathy. Did she not send any photos of the puppy before you went to pick the puppy up?
-
The second breeder wanted to see pics of the yard, and where the puppy would sleep. For our first puppy, one of the breeders I was on the wait list with, wanted to also see yard pics. And google your address to make sure you really lived there. She had been stung before.

We took our boy to the vet for something else, but while we were there, we mentioned his knee. He would be walking then he would hold up his leg, put it down then he would continue walking. Like what the OP said, a skip and a hop. She had a feel and just said to keep an eye on it. We could always X-ray later if his knee became worse. So in the following two months, he ran around, did sledding and walked as normal. But it kept happening, we got X-rays done. He did have a luxating patella!! I was horrified! When we googled patellar luxation, I was shocked the vet didn't pick it up. Needless to say we are never going back to that vet.

Unregistered Pups From Registered Parents
Malakita replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
Had their breeder not given them an almighty kick, things would be very different. And the worst part is that I would have just left it and gone oh well, lesson learned. But we still joke that she comes from a backyard breeder really. -
The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17
Malakita replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Denali! :) Only a true dog enthusiast would call these hooligans 'cute' I needed his name on the harness so people didn't think I had named him after Ronan Keating :D Yeah that'd be embarrassing  Where did his name come from Yonjuro? :D The name comes from the Japanese term for a masterless samurai - I actually teach Japanese swordsmanship and often travel to Japan. To me the name was pretty original and was strong, I felt it matched the free spirited nature of a Siberian Husky. He was born on Halloween so his full pedigree name is Articpower Grey Ghost - the breeder let me choose his pedigree name (minus kennel name obviously)and all littermate had a halloween theme :) Yonjuro, is there a bit of a Game of Thrones happening here too? I saw the Winter is Coming on Ronin's harness :) -

Owners Of Large Powerful Dogs - Do Not Let Your Kids Walk
Malakita replied to labadore's topic in General Dog Discussion
What a frightening ordeal for you and your poor dog . You are right, things could have been so much worse. So glad your dog is ok but sorry to hear your pain has been made worse. Your post highlighted something for me. Complacency. The owner you encountered that night wasn't your typical dog owner. He sounds like a responsible guy who unfortunately became complacent. He didn't think of his dog, his child or the public. But I am pretty sure he will in the future. Responsible owners are different, they are humble enough to learn from a wake up call. -
Unregistered Pups From Registered Parents
Malakita replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our girl came from a registered breeder. She was their first and also oops litter. Both parents are papered. The breeders came really really close to not registering the litter. They got a boot from their breeder so the litter got registered. My girl was 16 months when we got her paper.
