Dogs And The Melbourne Botanic Gardens

Both mine have been in there. Just obviously quite humid but a little squashy if more people are in there. -
I got one done recently which cost $280. The bloods were sent overseas.

Is anyone able to recommend the services of a 'pet nanny' (sorry it is very early and my brain can't think of the 'right' term) who comes to the home to do stuff around the house for pets? I know there are websites for pet services but you all know how fussy we all are with security. Someone who uses or knows of one, would be terrific. A personal reference would be even better. Thanks so much! :)

We used to pay $37 at the RSPCA, but that was in Feb/ March. Then we went last week for a yeasty ear and it was $57. Yikes!

I have an especially soft spot for greyhounds ever since my girl (who usually hates all other dogs) kissed and was completely non reactive to a couple she met. I always thought they were beautiful but since she thought they were terrific, well that sealed it even more for me :)

Okay, I got out the two guinea dogs and tested out their ramp. It is light and easy to carry. Almost feels filmsy as it is so light and nothing 'holds' the telescopic bit together. So I put it on the front porch as we have a couple of steps going down. Got the first guinea dog. She was fine. Paraded happily up and down as though she was a catwalk model. At one stage, she sat on the middle part of the ramp. It looked and felt sturdy extended to a metre. But as the anti skid material is very much like sand paper, she left scratch marks in the first 2 minutes!! The original color is a dark grey, now I have white scratch marks. It also holds fur well as it sticks to the 'sand paper'. Might need to look at covering it with an anti skid rubber down the track. Second guinea dog isn't a fan of ramps but humored me. The ramp sits well and doesn't wobble. So, so far, so good :)

I don't think you are being unreasonable. I think very much like Stressmagnet. We kennelled our girl once and never even thought/ considered to drop off or pick up out of the stated hours. We dropped her off a day early as we couldn't get there at drop off time plus it gave her more time to settle in.

Yes ramp arrived without issue on the Friday. We haven't road tested it yet but it seems sturdy enough. The material for the ramp bit where the dog walks down on is almost like a coarse sand paper feel. It slides up and down ok, but it doesn't lock in. You have to make sure that the two points touching the car and the two points touching the ground is secure and stable. That is how it 'locks' in. Will try it tomorrow.

Suggestions For A Dog Breed For New Dog Owners.
Malakita replied to Lhok's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would say a greyhound also. The ones I have met are so docile and such snuggle bums. But I am not sure how realistic they are about having a living breathing being. They should adjust to the dog and not vice versa. -
At the time, we had a holiday booked and were waiting on waiting lists for puppies. We got an email from a breeder saying she knew of a litter ready to go from an oops mating. We were torn as we were due to go overseas in 5 weeks. We spoke to the breeder of the puppies and only as long as they were okay to have the puppy back for 2 weeks, then we would go ahead. Our baby girl is now 3 :)

Just bought a Solvit Telescopic on eBay for $199. Hopefully will be here Thursday.

Just absolutely beautiful.

Just rang up the pet shop to ask about the $449 ramp. For me, it is no good as it is a step ramp. My boy can manage a couple of steps but not more. Yes I have also seen the Moorabbin one, ? Dogs in Motion price on the Solvit telescopic. Need to do more research :)
-
Well we went to have a look at this ramp. But naturally as I didnt ring ahead and with Murphys Law, the store didn't have one in stock. They had one at their Balwyn store but we didn't have time to go before and after we went out. So maybe Monday. But the price sounded hefty. Although it is meant to be quite good. She said $440 and I didn't even think to ask the model. How much is the one you can get in Moorabin?

From memory, he was on pred for a good two months. He started at a 100mg a day then eventually got down to 5mg every two days. The vet is looking at auto immune issues. When he was sick, his thyroid levels didn't even read. The vet put it down to he was sick at the time. We can't do anymore tests until his body recovers more. Hopefully we can do all his tests done in the next few weeks. She said if we do it too late, the results won't be accurate.

How To Approach Breeders Listing Mature Dogs
Malakita replied to McMiffy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't think your questions were too over the top. Just organised. But my two cents would be to throughly research the breeder. I know a well known breeder who rehomed a young dog without telling the new owners the dog was sick. -
Hi Steph, I wondered that too. He is taken back to those areas, and his tail is down, ears back, eyes wide. Pulls you to get out of there. He sniffs the air, sniffs the ground and seems to remember so we can't trick him. We don't want to stress him out but at the same time, we want him to know there nothing bad there. Well I can't see or smell it anyway.......
-
Oooo good topic :) I am also thinking of a ramp. I am going to have a look at a Solveit one at Planet Pets in BoxHill tomorrow. As we do a fair bit of parallel parking and we have a 4wd, , hubby is concerned that the ramp won't be able to extend fully due to the lack of space. But it won't hurt to see the ramp and make an informed judgement. Hubby is already a trillion percent sure a ramp won't work :)

Thoughts please. My boy is almost 2 and a half. He has grown up with another dog and has been exposed to a large variety of situations. He has no problem with thunder noises and also goes on trains regularly. Nothing really fazed him. Until the last 3 or so weeks. He has been sick prior to that and only came off prednisolone 3 and a half weeks ago. At the moment he is fine health wise. But we are finding more and more that he is getting freaked out over smells. The majority of the places we have been to before and one he hadn't. He just sniffs the ground and his tail goes down and his ears go back. He will refuse to go further. Our other dog is totally fine each time he has been scared. We try to take him back to the 'scary' spot and sound happy but he will not go. This has happened 6 times. The first time it happened, though we didn't realize until we got much closer and could smell it, it was at the back of a butcher. Today, it was just walking down a main road. He was sniffing the ground then jumped in fright. Once he goes past the scary area, his tail goes back up. It is not things he reacts to but smells. Although on the way home today, we always drive past a funeral home, which is on the main road. There was a group of people today right out the front drive way entrance, dressed in black and not crying and sobbing. The guy leading the group was holding a large floral display and the group was following him, not sure where they were going. There was no hearse in sight. I didn't look because I was startled by my boy growling at the group from inside the car. As we were at the lights, he growled at them until we drove off. And yes, he has been inside a cemetery with no reaction. That was last September. Maybe I should try him again? Has anyone noticed their dog more freaked out in regards to smells that they don't like? It is not like these are areas he has never walked around. He has never done this until very recently. Any thoughts? As long as he doesnt see paranormal activity, I will be relieved.

Phew! That is great news for Ernie :) Glad it wasn't too serious!
-
Would have liked to back hand that smirk off his unrepenting face. $5000 is no deterrent.
-
Glad to hear Ernie is feeling much better this morning. It is so stressful when they are sick. When our dog was sick, it was our first claim and it snowballed into 9 separate claims in the space of a month aprrox. He is with Real. We were paid upfront close to $3000. My worry was the time it would take with the paperwork to get processed. But they were terrific, we got the money back in about 3 weeks.

Me too.

Our first breeder loves getting updates. I never had Facebook until my girl came along! So now he sees her all the time and just loves it. We also see them a few times a year. Second breeder couldn't give a flying fig about the puppy she bred.
