It can be a slippery slope thinking about these things sometimes... :) I'm fairly sure Nixon loves me - he certainly follows me around everywhere, and likes cuddles (possibly just because I make him!). He wiggles all over with happiness when I get home. 90% of the time he clearly prefers me to my husband. But, I remember watching a dog documentary that said something about signs of empathy from your dog meaning they value you. The one that stuck in my head is if you yawn, they yawn. I don't really see that sort of thing from Nix, but I also suspect that he's still quite young, and is a spoiled rotten only child, so he expects most interactions to be about him. I also wonder sometime if he thinks he's the boss of me, and needs to look after me, which is why he sticks so close? Not sure, but he is definitely a gorgeous, good natured boy and I love him to bits!

Goregous photo! Where were you camping - it looks amazing! A property called 'The Gorge' on the upper reaches of the Clarence River NSW. It's magic there. A quick tinny trip, longer canoe paddle or even longer walk up river and you get to this. Still on private property. Not many places like this in Aust. one can take their dog too. Striker posing as 'The Gorge' - Clarence River by dPphodography, on Flickr WOW!! Thanks for sharing, it looks amazing! We love the clarence - we camp there with friends at least once a year for a wakeboarding trip, but it's great to know there's somewhere in the area so awesome for dogs. I'll check it out - thank you! We stopped at Ulmarra pub for lunch on our way south at Christmas - lovely food, right on the river, and they allow dogs. have you been there? Just north of Grafton. It's great! ETA us at Ulmarra:

I'd rather have my dog piled in a car or truck willy nilly in an emergency than have him left there to die... In fact I'd prefer they even just open the door and let him free to fend for himself. I really don't see how crates would ever be practical. they're heavy and unwieldy, and would take a LOT of time to be loaded in an emergency.

Oh god! Cheeky buggers!

My pest control people use baits that are not harmful to pets if the rats say, crawl outside to die, then are eaten by a dog... I have no idea what it's called, but it definitely exists.

it looks like jumbo pets have the 3kg bag, if you're worried: https://www.jumbopets.com/index.php?_route_=dfrc10615-royal-canin-german-shepherd-adult-3kg&filter_name=royal%2520canin%2520german It looks like they ship to tasmania. I've ordered from them before and they're very good!

That's right near where I live! Can only hope I end up somewhere that allows pets... Love the pic of the bantam on that man's shoulder! :)

With the RC lab food the kibble was larger in the adult food, but it still fitted in the kongs fine. See if you can do a google image search - you might find a pic of the kibble.

Awesome news!! Congrats!

Six Month Old Puppy Won't Eat His Kibble

I was in the same situation, so switched to royal canin because I'd heard it's meant to be particularly palatable. He loved it! Problem solved :) Hope you can find something he likes. -
Nexgard - Has Anyone Tried This Yet?

Keep in mind, people only ever post those reviews if something bad happens, and there will always be dogs (or humans) with sensitivities to particular medications. -
Hollards Pet Insurance Quote Comparisons
aliwake replied to Sail_Away's topic in General Dog Discussion
If they only cover 80% of the amount, I'd prefer to have no excess - it's like a double whammy otherwise - paying excess AND 20% of the costs. -
our lab boy was the same, except we reached a point where he was crying every 30mins through the night! My husband and I caved and crated him next to our bed, and it's the only way we got our lives back! He definitely settled MUCH better. At about 9 months he decided he didn't want to sleep in our room any more and moved himself out, so it may not be forever :)

They have definitely been a mess since their restructure - lots of people didn't get their renewal notices before they started getting charged (me included), and their customer service has been terrible. However, the cover is still good, and they have been paying claims. It certainly sounds like you have a good case to dispute with them - if they applied the exclusions without notifying you. I would lodge a dispute with them, and if you have no luck, contact the ombudsman.

I have tried a few of the Earthborn ones. Most are very small kibble, ie less than 0.5cm probably. I'm currently using the new large breed one and it's a nice decent sized kible. At a guess I'd say 1.5cms, but I'll check for you later on.

I feed twice a day, but his larger meal is in the morning. I feel like he would need more energy through the day? For those that feed one meal at night, is there a reason you choose night time, or is it just habit? Curious to know if there's something I haven't thought of.

It is allowed, but it might not be too late to cancel seeing as it's early in the policy. I'd give them a call asap

Nexgard - Has Anyone Tried This Yet?
aliwake replied to Tilly's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Tilly, it has only just been released, so it's early days yet, but it sounds promising. There is another thread around somwhere if you want to search for it. Eta this is it http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/260737-nexguard/page__p__6609410__hl__tick__fromsearch__1#entry6609410 -
We've always had a feeding routine when I leave, so I'm used to it. nixon knows it inside out and can't wait for me to leave for work so he can start chomping on his peanut butter kongs! It is seriously the best part of his day and he's so freaking excited. The excitement makes me happy, and the whole routine is very quick and easy. I give him his stuff, go back inside and shut the door, then do my last few things like washing hands, grabbing handbag, turn on dishwasher etc, then leave. He couldn't care less. If I have to go out unexpectedly I usually just give him a carrot cos it's quick and easy. He expects to get fed when I leave so it keeps him happy. It's like it's a signal for him not to worry. I'm sure once you get used to the routine it won't bother you at all! It sounds like the dogs are adapting really well - hang in there!

Do Your Dogs Stress Your Relationship?
aliwake replied to Aleksandra 157's topic in General Dog Discussion
My husband hates me getting advice from an Internet forum :) But, we mostly agree on how to raise our boy. The biggest division was probably on when to desex, but now we're past that it's all good. I can see how things could go bad quickly with a more difficult dog though! -
Very interesting! I guess it's consistently warmer here in Brisbane though

Such lovely updates. He sounds adorable Seren :)

If Only All Councils Were Like This One
aliwake replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I filled out my own rego details online, so it's possible it was the owner not a council worker. Super cute either way though!
