My vet prescribed something that pregnant women use for incontinence. I had to blow it up Giz's nostril with a tiny straw. From memory it took 2 bottles before she came good. She'd been on steroids and became incontinent when she stopped taking them. Nowadays I'd be looking at seeing if there was anything herbal I could try.

Dog Behaviourist In Townsville Area?
JackieW replied to puppiluv's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Try these http://www.dpdta.com.au/trainers/browse/4/qld or http://www.apdt.com.au/trainers-directory/find-a-trainer.html -
Thanks for that, nowstarin.

How safe is it to swap brands of collars? Eg when the 8 weeks for the Preventic is up, putting Kiltix on the dogs instead? Should be safe according to this from Nowstarin "Has only a 62% efficacy rate (efficiency) and tests prove efficacy drops at end of life span dramatically and collar takes 48 hours to distribute" I guess.

A friend has just had the treatment for her dog. I mentioned this thread and she said I could pass this on - one of their vet nurses has a 4 y.o. dog (not sure what breed) that couldn't walk 400m without needing to be carried back home, couldn't climb stairs, in/out of car etc., with bad HD. They did the stem cell treatment and now do can go 4km+, in/out of car, completely normal range of movement. Also she's happy for me to pass on her email to sterlingsilver if you'd like to discuss it all with her (she's got copies of studies too) - contact me by PM if you'd like it.

Seeking Dog Artists To Draw From Photo? Melbourne Area
JackieW replied to cbgirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bea did two great pictures of my beloved Jamie - http://www.pbase.com/greytails/artwork&page=1. He's on page 2 -
I think this is what my first dog had. The vet prescribed something that pregnant women use, and I had to squirt it up her nose with a thin pipe. She was blind, so that was easier than it might have been with a dog who could see me coming... She had 2 courses of treatment and that fixed the problem.

Jamie was on it to raise his BG (he had insulinoma - is this what your ferret has, Amstaff Ambition?). He was on it for 14 months, as low a dose as I could make it but towards the end he was getting nasty skin problems from it, plus rear end weakness. He probably would have been getting that at his age anyway but my vet thought the Pred was making it worse. Then his BG started dropping and we didn't think it was fair to try to raise the Pred when Jamie was already having side effects, plus the vet said more Pred might not necessarily raise the BG anyway, so I had to make the decision to have Jamie pts. RIP gorgeous boy, gone 2 years on 11 June.

Founding Fathers (labrador): An Interesting History:
JackieW replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
These names bring back memories. Mum had Countess Howe's book for years but lost it moving house 20+ years ago. It probably ended up at Lifeline... She was always cranky that it'd gone. Dual FC-CH Banchory Bolo was the first dog to earn a dual championship by winning both the bench Championship CH as well as becoming a Field Trial Champion in England. Each of his litters produced either a Field Champion or a Show Champion. . . . Bolo came to Lady Howe in 1918, when he was a bit more than two years old. Heartbroken about the loss of her first Labrador, Scandal of Glynn, she had decided to find the only male pup that Scandal had sired. When finally found, he'd been through several trainers and all had given up on him. (Lady Howe said that in human terms "he had a really bad police record.") She was offered the dog for nothing with the proviso that if she did not want him later on, he should be destroyed. . . . -
My GWPs have eaten them with no problems. I don't give them anymore though as I'm not sure about the glue that's used. I could never give my dogs empty boxes to destroy for fun as the old boy would then attempt to eat the whole box.

My first dog Gizmo because she looked like the character in Gremlins. My second dog Jamie because as a pup he looked like Animal or Agro but I couldn't call a dog Agro so named him after Jamie Dunn. My current dogs are Aja (I wanted a "rock" name and couldn't find any female singers whose names I liked so I went for the name of an album from a band I like) and Granville (who is a rehome and was already called that).

Breed Spotting At The Million Paws Walk
JackieW replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
There was a gorgeous OES at the Petrie walk and a Bulldog, a couple of Belgian Shepherds, a GSP, a few Labs, a couple of Beagles, a Samoyed pup (I think), lots of little xbreeds... Not a bad turn-out and a pretty good place to walk AND nice and cool -
Not only that, but the vet said straight out, she's almost 10, I wouldn't vaccinate at her age. She also didn't recommend anything but the 3 year C3 for my younger dog, but I said I'm only vaccinating to take him to training, they want the kc and bordatella component too. Now I feel obliged to keep training for the rest of the year while clubs will accept him :D .

Is That A Male Newf, I Want To Use Him To Breed
JackieW replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Someone once asked whether he could use my GWP on his crossbreed for pig dog puppies. I said no thanks, but he wouldn't be much use to you anyway, he's neutered. Today in the paper someone is wanting a male teacup chihuahua, "working". Working at what? -
I've just had Aja tested again. Same results as when I posted almost exactly 3 years ago (post number 18 on this thread) Dog: Aja Breed: GWP Age: 10 in June Vaccinations had: Annual up until Dec 2006 (C5) Titre result: Parvo and distemper both >= 1:80 Southern Cross Vets at Woodford is now clued up on titre testing (and they do 3 year vaccs too)

At gundog training, being dragged along on my back in a dried up dam... And with my 2 current dogs, just managing to stop on the edge of a swamp when they decide to chase ducks...

I've used Pets in Peace three times and they've been excellent. The second time I organised some memorial jewellery through them as well.

Another vote here for BVSC at Albany Creek. They were very good with my old fellow's insulinoma. Not cheap though, but worth it IMO.
-
The only symptom I noticed of my dog's insulinoma was that he went "wobbly" a couple of times after exercise. My vet mentioned a hunting dog collapse syndrome (can't remember the name now) but after it happened a second time we did blood tests. I think the original poster said the dog had had a blood test but it might be worth doing again after a fast. They'd be looking for low blood glucose or the glucose/insulin ratio.

Pine Rivers club at Lawnton used to do a good one, don't know if they still do. 0410 638 212 or 0418 719 180 or [email protected] -
I'm so sorry to read this, my condolences to you. RIP Smudge I know it's all very raw at the moment, but when you can, could you check whether either vet has submitted an adverse reaction report. From the Australian Veterinary Association website "Any adverse event should be reported, identifying the product, animal and reaction involved, to the manufacturer and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) Adverse Experience Reporting Program." http://www.ava.com.au/policy/67-vaccination-dogs-and-cats

Glad to hear your dog is OK, Monah. Sorry about the other ones on the sick list though. Things happen in threes so hopefully that's it for you. One of my dogs killed a brown snake a couple of months ago. She's killed blacks and tree snakes before. Both dogs are into toads in a big way. I too think NZ sounds good....
