Yeah, I guess I'll have a think about doing that. Unfortunately I don't have any contacts with the breed so would be going in cold so to speak.

I've got lots of work to do but get sucked into the same trap, although I've been watching clips of Beauceron specialty shows and tracking trials!

I know right!

haha that looks so funny  popping out of the shrubbery

My male has a warped sense of humor, or at least I think so. He puts his toys in our shoes or throws them on the roof , sits in his dinner bowl, lies on his back and sings to passers by..... but maybe its all just attention seeking behavior but my female doesn't do it

Yeah, I'm worried about getting a lemon, thats why I was wondering how people here would pick a breeder in a different country. At least I like dog sports too which I could enter on an associate register I assume. As for breeding, put it this way, I'm not interested in breeding the dogs I have at the moment because I have a breeder I love and she gets to do all the hard work with raising puppies  but if I went to the trouble of importing and did land a good dog I would consider it if it were possible.

oops I was thinking of the 150 days as being from birth. I wonder if I can convince hubby of an overseas holiday to look at expensive dogs? I've been saying no to a new motorbike for years, looks like that might bite me on the behind lol. Anyway I just love the look of the Beauceron being very Dobe like and a sport breed, and I've read some good things about their tracking ability. It's probably all pie in the sky but a girl can dream :)

Totally agree with the no change out of 10K !! You also have to be prepared for the possibility of spending that small fortune on a dog that you may not even be able to breed on from for one reason or another. I'm a member of the 'expensive pets' club. To have the breed recognised here you will have to actually import one of the breed & obtain an FCI export pedigree for the dog. The ANKC won't even consider your application without AQIS proof that the dog has arrived in the Country. Cheers. . Does sound expensive but I've owned horses all my life and that is REALLY expensive lol. Thanks for the info on ANKC breed recognition, that's what it would all come down to really. So am I right in thinking that importing an adult dog is a safer bet than a six month old puppy? I guess like in Australia adult dogs don't change hands very often but I know in the Dobes that others have imported proven adults (which would have a heftier price tag attached too). The Beauceron has it's ears cropped in many countries, if I was looking to buy an adult to show in Aust it would have to be natural so I guess that limits where the dog can come from?

Thankyou!! I can start dreaming....

I've laid 2 test 6's this year but both in warm climates. Was very nice curled up in a ground sheet watching the birds for an hour or so :D very nearly dozed off both times

Well I have fallen in love with a breed over the internet (Beauceron), and was wondering for those of you who have imported dogs, How do you get in contact with a good breeder overseas and know that they are a good breeder and have good dogs? what is involved before the Australian quarantine requirements like rabies vaccine and quarantine? What extra costs are involved and are purebred dogs a similar price internationally as they are here in Aust? If you import a dog that is not currently in Australia, how does the breed get registered with the ANKC? Is visiting the breeder overseas a norm?

I have quite a few issues with one of the vets we use due to cost and upselling. They also do not offer subsidised desexing for dogs over the age of 5 months because in their opinion the extra cost will encourage owners to desex early. Too bad if like me you believe in waiting until a dog is fully developed before neutering. They blame the cost of visits to them as a result of locality but the other vets we use have a much smaller practise in a more remote part of NT and charge far less.

Thats my good news for the day -
Don't have a good answer for you on this but I went through the same things with my male. The year we got him we were flooded in at our house for a good part of the year so he never saw other dogs or people and was a nightmare to take anywhere where there was another dog. He is now about to turn 3 and has become a lot more social just through going to shows and trials and playing with neighbors so I wouldn't worry that the ideal time to socialise has passed.

Gold Giving a lawyer a lesson in law was really quite funny! It can be. We gave the Ranger and the City Council Lawyers a lesson they won't forget. Lawyers are not God and some are not Saints. They also get things wrong, they're not exempt from human failings. Because the only person exempt from human failings is you right?

I went there once, they had a beautiful red panda, hope it's still there

At What Age Do I Switch To Adult Food
DesertDobes replied to Leela and PJ's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is easy to overfeed kibble of any type because its so energy rich. I think the nutrient ratio is more important than the type, I still occasionally feed giant puppy kibble to my 18 month old although shes normally fed raw but I'll swap her over to adult when this bag runs out. I also subscribe to the idea of growing pups slowly and keeping them quite lean, less weight on joints while they are growing. Maybe in addition to feeding the VAN mix, just cut back on the quantity of food if he's a bit heavy. -
No Tralee, WE DON'T KNOW. And you donning the cape of self-appointed social justice defender doesn't alter the fact that you have no idea what really happened in this incident. Your negative experience with police and your own dogs doesn't mean that every case is the same as yours. You instruct "counsel" by the way not "council". All of this over an incident that a closed door or a hand in a collar might have prevented. I agree that feeding, housing, exercising and caring for a dog's needs is not enough. You have to keep them safe. An ounce of prevention.... An automatic assumption that the police were wrong and a whole bunch of rhetoric about rights won't save other dogs whose owners allow them access to the front yard and to "bark and growl and that". How hard is it to lock your front gate or keep your dog away from access to the front door? You don't get police having to deal with aggressive dogs if the dogs' owners don't put them in these situations. I call that win/win. Education is a far more powerful tool than litigation. You should know that better than most. Want to be a defender of dog owner's rights? Then educate them on their responsibilities. That includes telling them what the law is as it pertains to their dogs and their property. Well said HW

Good News Family for the little dogs have been found! And we found out their names are Jess and Sammy so we don't need to call them little boy and little girl anymore
