  1. Sniper has been to the vet, vet said he was a picture of health and his anal glands were empty and there was nothing wrong with his rear end at all :) So diagnosis is he is suffering from an over-reactive imagination/ mild neurosis lol which I am not surprised about. He is the most sensitive dobe I have ever met. Big plus is that after a 7 year long battle to have raw feeding accepted by the other vet in town, new vet supports and recommends it, I also ran into an owner of a 10 year old dane who has only ever been fed raw
  2. My 4 year old desexed male has been licking his bum an awful lot lately and sometimes there is a bit of slimy stuff there. I could not find anything out of order down there apart from that and considering he eats lots of raw bones I thought he should be pretty safe from getting anal gland problems. He is regularly wormed/ treated for fleas so shouldn't be parasites. Any one got any ideas? I have been putting dynamic lifter on our plants and I have seen him pick up the odd pellet when he can find it but the licking started before that. I will take him to the vet as he is due for a visit anyway but was wondering if any raw feeders have had anal gland problems with their doggies. Cheers,
  3. x2 Mine definitely would not snuggle up now they are adults, but like to be near each other so separate beds works really well.
  4. Oh no, sorry to hear that, hope for the best
  5. lol, funny, I've pinched it for facebook
  6. At maturity and not before unless their are retained testes or other VALID veterinary reasons
  7. Maybe share on the dobe club vic facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dobermann-Club-of-Victoria-Inc/158313724245589?fref=ts Also could inquire with Cheryl from Sundobe, she might be familiar with the bitch if it was ever shown up there. Edited to add, I have sent a message to the Vic dobe club
  8. URGENT - ASSISTANCE NEED FOR PORT PIRIE RESCUE DOGS Just saw this on facebook if anyone can lend a hand with these dogs..... Port Pirie Rescue have been devastated by the sudden passing of their founder Marilyn Larcombe. PPR have approached RSPCA South Australia to assist in urgently finding homes for the dogs currently in their care. This photo album was put together today by an RSPCA South Australia volunteer to assist in providing adopters with information relating to the dogs available for adoption. Port Pirie Rescue will be holding an adoption day on Sunday 16 February between 11am and 3pm at 352 Nelshaby Rd, Napperby SA. 30 dogs and puppies, currently in care, need to be urgently rehomed. All adult dogs are available for a $50 adoption fee which includes desexing, microchipping and vaccination. There are also two puppies available for $150 desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. Please share this album on your Facebook page or Facebook group in an effort to spread the word and help find homes for these dogs in need. The South Australian animal welfare and rescue community has been saddened to hear of Marilyn's sudden passing. The community's thoughts are with Marilyn's family and the volunteers from PPR.
  9. Yes, very true that Heres me and 2 judges, fashion statement from me with nice black joggers and a pink suit lol. I enjoy the dressing up, but back in the real world I have a laugh at the array of coloured suits in my wardrobe and hubby thinks they are disgusting heehee
  10. yes you'll get that lost money back in breeder support anyway
  11. So make sure your dogs mc actually works- I found out recently that my nearly 2 year old dog's didn't.
  12. One last thing, Pawz n Clawz can give you web updates and photos of Em while you are at Uluru for a small fee I think. They gave me Christmas themed photos when they visited in December.
  13. :) No worries, hope you have a great time! Rawnsley Park was a great place, when I checked the website it made me want to go back!
  14. Hi Popsicle, I have stayed at Glendambo (North of Port Augusta, its just a road house with some hotel rooms/ camp ground) and I believe quite a few of the showies travelling between Alice and Adelaide pull up there. Not really sure south of Port Augusta- I have camped at Rawnsley Park near Wilpena pound and the Flinders Ranges with the dogs and it was beautiful and very peaceful but it is probably a 300km round trip detour for you. They have very good camping facilities and if you were going to stop somewhere for a day or two that would be the place IMO, nothing much else once you head away from Adelaide towards Alice. They had a dam near the camp site that the dogs could swim in and lots of bushwalks. Here's their website. http://www.rawnsleypark.com.au/main/accommodation/caravan_park Hope you have lots of fun!
  15. The dog might have a health problem, but yeah some people are nut bags and want to pretend dogs are mini humans
  16. I wouldn't worry about the law at a time like that, but I wouldn't put my life at risk. If something had happened to the humans the cat wouldn't have made it to the vets IMO
  17. Mai is the owner at Pawz n Clawz, she is very good, an ex vet nurse I think and spent a lot of time working in the Alice animal shelter. I've taken our dogs to Yulara (the resort at Uluru) but we stayed in a residents house as they are allowed pets (Yulara isn't actually inside the NP). One other thing, when we do the run south we stay anywhere but Port Augusta. Lots of crime I believe.
  18. I have lived in Alice for a few years (not at the moment though) I still board our dogs at Pawz and Clawz and they are very good. Camping wise, all the roadhouses along the Stuart highway are pet friendly but in Alice they are not so great- Heritage allows pets and some of the others will allow dogs in dog trailers but nothing else. Bed and Breakfasts are nearly all very pet friendly. If you are not fussed by facilities Blatherskite Park (showgrounds) allows camping and there is lots of room for dogs to run around. Hope you have fun
  19. The other day Savvy did a big upside down stretch on the couch and fell off onto the floor- whoops She always looks very apologetic when she does something silly
  20. My current bitch is brown but reminds me quite a bit of our first dobe (Black) we had who got bitten by a snake and passed away when she was only six. When the current girl developed a suspicious lump recently I started accidentally calling her by the name of the bitch that came before her, must be a kind of subconscious thing... and I started dreaming about the other dog dying after many years of not thinking much about it. Anyway it all made me realise how much the two girls personalities were the same- big smooch bugs and very dippy
  21. Just wanted to add- I know a lot have people have mentioned measuring height, that is a much better indicator of growth than weight. I have a dobe bitch who is very gangly at the moment as a nearly 2 year old, still is on the light side but she is a correct height and as I have seen quite a few of her female relatives I know she will eventually put on more muscle. I feel your pain though, sometimes I think my girl looks like a mini dobermann especially compared to some of the really big males but my point is I know she is correct and to the standard!
  22. I have the lofty dream of running the endurance test with one of my dogs I will keep working on it but have started getting the dogs used to running along side the bike just in case I don't get it together.
