  1. Get them some quality brand puppy kibble and soften with warm water, feed 4 x day. they should have constant access to fresh water. As there is no mum around, you could give a small milk drink in the evening. I would feed them separatly if you feel the big one is eating more then their share. In their pen you should have a bed and a separate toilet and play area. Have some toys in there for them to chew on to help puppy teeth come through - I also tie a few toys to the sides of the pen, to give them something to tug on and exxplore. You can swop the toys around for variety. Hot water bottle, radio etc to keep them comfortable and you can start to get them used to household noises/sights/smells
  2. The only thing my laube was ever good at cutting, was the silence! Total waste of money, used a couple of times and now lives in the cupboard. I have 2 pairs of Osters on the go, so they never get to hot and I don't need to keep changing blades. There is also no reason why you would need to sharpen the blades after a couple of clips on a Sammy, clean coat and not forcing it through the coat and the blades should last a long time between sharpenings.
  3. I've just skimmed through the posts, another thing you can try is to work with you sitting on a chair with your legs stretched infront of you. If your dog is taught to target something small, like a beer mat (or peg as was suggested before) you can start with it by your foot and slowly move the target closer to you.
  4. I think they are fine for smoothing off the nail after a trim, or you can use them on a weekly basis if you have the time. Care is needed not to keep working for long on one nail, or it will be hot and uncomfortable for the dog.
  5. yes, a food they have been fed awhile can appear to suddenly start to cause problems as the dog builds up a reaction to it. If you do worm again so soon, try using a different brand of wormer - ones from the vets work better then the cheaper brands. You say she has been on Black Hawk for 10 days, has she been changed over to this food over a week or so? What was she on before? It could be the BH doesn't suit her tum as much as the food the breeder had her on.
  6. I'm off to bed soon, so here is my question a. What breed of dog was Greyfriars Bobby b. What significance to him, was the 1 o'clock gun c. How many years did he stay by the grave?
  7. load them onto photobucket and you can post as many photos as you like!
  8. Depends on what breeds you wish to see & the time off year you go I have been to Crufts & wouldn't go again. very hard to watch breed judging as males/females are in sep rings & you need good friends to save front row seats (which we had).Very much a giant royal show with alot of stalls aimed at the public. Westminster in the US is also a benched show & you need to buy tickets. Crufts & Westminster you need to buy group judging tickets . Eukanunba is in december & back to Florida next year & again you need tickets We did all 4 days of Crufts. There are certainly shows in the US that are free & some super cluster shows during the year Crufts is the 10th - 13th March 2011. You can buy a ticket on the door to get into the show or on line from the Crufts website. Most breeds are judged in the same ring, just a few of the breeds with huge entries are split into dog and bitch rings, otherwise they would never make it to the group ring in time. Groups are judged at the end of each day and these are only for the Best of Breed winners. You only need to buy a ticket for Best In Show on the final evening, at all other times the events and groups are FREE to watch from ringside, since they moved the BIS ring into a new hall and it is now bigger then it used to be. It is easy to get to by train, which stops closer to the NEC then the carpark!! The airport is also next to the NEC. If you go to the show for the first time, you may want a day to watch breed judging, a day to go around the stands and another day to take in all the extra events - gundog demos, agility, obedience, flyball, discover dogs where you can meet all the breeds recognised by the KC, junior handlers events, good citizen demos......... etc etc.
  9. I believe that recently Jersey can now offer a CH title, been awhile since I read about how it works though. Plenty of Jersey exhibitors make the journey across the water to show in southern england. We can line up anyway we like in a class, it isn't confusing as we all have ring numbers on! It means we can choose who to show near, ie away from the dogs who maybe naughty or a bit non dog friendly, or go to the front if our dog likes to run faster, or we can stand next to another dog of similar size if ours is a little under or over size - try standing 2 larger dogs either side of a small/correct size one and see which looks correct!! It's all part of handling, like don't stick your dogs front end in a dip in the ground!! Crufts is a 4 day show, most of our champ shows are 3 or 4 days in length (they need to be with 8,000 + dogs at a normal champ show, with Crufts getting more then 20,000 dogs in the show ring - not including the sports dogs)
  10. There is some cross over of breeds in your working and our pastoral, but no direct corelation. Guessing Corgi - will now go and read question!

  13. I'm surprised a pet shop will give a refund on an open bag of food. What is the shop supposed to do with it? It isn't their fault or the products fault. how quickly did you make the change onto the new food? Some dogs need as much as 2 weeks to slowly change over, anything less and it can take them awhile for the stomach to get used to the new food.
  14. but how do we know the person making that comment was the real owner of the dog and not someone pretending to be her?
  15. I came across this on facebook and thought I would share it http://www.facebook.com/#!/note.php?no...100001735671334 INFORMATION ON THE VIDEO OF ANA MESTO JUDGING This video is part of a smear campaign against the judge Mrs. Ana Mesto, which has been very well organised by a person whose dog failed to win under her and who is now seeking vengeance in this way. The video has been manipulated: some of the footage is repeated -such as the part where she takes the pup to the edge of the table several times- and the speed has been increased to make it look more violent. Can anyone imagine that a judge can examine a dog on the table, give an oral critique to the handler, teach the dog to behave on the table, view its movement and finish judging it in only 1.33 minutes??? A judge like that could judge almost 300 dogs in five hours!!! The video was put on Facebook and YouTube under a false identity. Mrs. Mesto’s lawyer has complained to YouTube and required that the video be removed, but the damage has already been done. The real story is that the exhibitor, who had absolutely no experience –and neither did her dog-, came into the ring with the dog dragging its bottom along the floor. It did not walk at all. When she lifted it on to the table, the dog tried to jump off twice. When she again tried to stack it, it turned on her and tried to bite. The exhibitor apologised to the judge and the latter told her that it was not good for the dog to leave the ring immediately after this negative experience, thinking that it could jump off the table whenever it wanted. She said that, if the exhibitor so wished, she could explain how to control it. The exhibitor said she would be very grateful and this is where the filming began (the events described above do not appear in the video). The judge explained that she should take the dog by the neck decisively, but without hurting it, because the dog had the habit of turning its head and biting when it was held. She said that it should be taken to the edge of the table so that it would become afraid of jumping off, etc. The exhibitor was delighted and thanked the judge. When she put the dog on the floor, it walked for the first time and kept its tail up. A few minutes later, the same lady showed another dog under Mrs. Mesto. We feel that, if she had thought that Mrs. Mesto had mistreated her pup, she would never have shown the second dog. This is the simple truth. Mrs. Ana Mesto always treats all her exhibitors and their dogs with courtesy and respect, since she considers them to be the most important part of a show and, therefore, they deserve this treatment. Today, a campaign has been launched against this judge but, tomorrow, the same thing might happen to any other. There is always some dissatisfied exhibitor who might decide to organise a similar campaign. It is very easy to do damage when the facts are not known. FB is a very useful tool if it is well used, but it can also be a very destructive weapon if used for the wrong purposes. Before publishing anything, we must check that it is true!!!! Because, if not, a great deal of damage may be done to somebody. Mrs. Ana Mesto is an excellent person and an excellent judge (she has been judging for many years in many different countries) and you can see the support she has received from all her friends in the FB page Ana Mesto Sup, which has been created by ALL HER SUPPORTERS!!!! 16. What happened to the poor dogs face?
  17. try putting the wet towel or frozen bottle on one side of the bo, so they can get away from it in they want to. What bedding have you got in the box, that and the close proximity to each other when at the milk bar may be making them hotter then they need to be.
  18. Hi Miranda can i ask what you mean by "If you use the 3mm blade with the lay of the hair"? using the clippers in the direction the coat grows, going against the lay of the hair will result in a shorter clip eg a 7f against the coat will give a similar length to a 10# with the lay of hair.
  19. So if someone doesnt honour their contract to spay but breed instead would you want to know? No breeder is going to spay an 8 week old GD puppy and you couldnt know if there was an agreement in place or not. If it were mie I would want to know and I would give them a serve to make me feel better but reality is there isnt anything to be done about it and its probably better to let it go. We follow up the with all our puppy owners ,we have an age stated in our paperwork & if we haven't heard back after a set time we follow up. If a breeder is interested they will ring & see where things stand. We have a 100% success rate on all our pups being spayed it isn't hard to keep track of pups & do follow ups. Without knowing what agreements have been made with the breeder you can't very well phone up & give them a mouthful. How do you know for sure that they have been desexed and it isn't just the owner telling you it has been done?
  20. harness and life jacket on next time!
  21. The Hackney action is mentioned in the UK breed standard, but why is it there when the FCI (and therefor the country who created the breed) don't ask for it? Hackney action isn't seen or wanted in any of the closely related breeds.
  22. I'd like the premium support package, but to save on postage - just send the first and last items!
