Champion Class- Should We Have A Seperate Class?
becks replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in General Dog Discussion
Actually, having a big winner does affect the entries. eg in Giant schnauzers when Philip Oliver was winning so much, we were lucky to get even 6 or 8 males turn up at a show, prior to that there would be 30 or so. Since he retired we are now slowly starting to see a few more males being shown. There are many breeds where a dog is going for the CC record and it does affect the number of dogs entered, why pay £20 - £25 pounds to enter a show when you know there is a really good chance your dog won't be the famous one? -
haven't got the breed but PBGV makes the cutest pups ever!
-
Have you tried to just pluck the hair from her head? or weaving elastic bands through a comb and using the extra grip from that to get the dead coat out?
-
I imagine it would be good for sucking a lot of dust and dirt from the coat too.
-
most mini schnauzers lie like that at times

Darn it, I was going to try these for my litter due next w/e!

We have just over a week to go here, so tomorrow my girl will have her final tidy up and I will try to remember to get the belly shots. She surprised me tonight, I have been feeding her in a crate which sits ontop of a large crate (which she can normally get to by jumping on the sofa and then walking across another little crate to gain access to hers.) I had removed the small crate for cleaning in the afternoon and left it elsewhere to dry off properly. Feeding time tonight Connie has gone missing..... she had managed to jump up into her crate!! She has a big belly and is a lazy girl, so it was a shock to see her impaitently waiting for her dinner!
-
Sounds like he wasn't socialised enough and it nervous of these visitors, so telling him off and using a crate or barking device isn't going to work, you need to go back to basics with him

The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
becks replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I was training to be a groomer we had a westie x lab come in, looked just like a large westie but with a very long back - like most x bred terriers I have met, he had the most vile temperament. -
I came across a good add in the paper today, it was for a crossbreed litter and in big, bold letters underneath the 2 breeds involved was "HIGHBREED" took me a while to realised they meant hybrid and not a kennel name! lol I hadn't had my coffee at that point!
-
Don't worry at all, i've never cut them up for my dogs!
-
Maybe she should have had the tests done before returning the puppy? The breeder is well within their rights to keep that puppy now or sell on to someone else at a future date.

Hilaryo.. your poor girl sounds like she's been through a lot  Fingers crossed you got some sticky babies. OMG... I went to Canberra for three days.. have come home and I can't believe how much Lola has changed... she has no waist and a big 'ol pot belly.. such a huge change in such a short time.. I can't imagine what the next three and a half weeks are going to be like! I know what you mean, I had to put mine into kennels for 5 days and when she went in, she didn't really look any different but when I picked her up, there was a definite belly. We have 2 weeks to go now, so she will get her belling shave at the w/e and maybe do a belly picture.

I just soak a small amount and if you have some left for mum to eat afterwards, then that is about the right amount, none left over then I make up a little more for the next meal. It's all done by eye. I just make sure mum has been away from the pups for at least an hour before feeding them, so they are hungry. I have a clever girl who would always sneak back in with the pups to feed them when I was soaking the puppy food as she knew she would then get more left overs!

When we breed a dog our kennel name goes at the start of a dogs name but when we buy in a dog we have the option of adding our kennel name to the end of that dogs name everyone has been looking at their website so you will have to wait until the bandwidth has reset http://www.soletraderpbgvs.co.uk/ or contact them via their business page http://www.avalonkennels.co.uk/

Calling On Mini Schnauzer Breeders/owners
becks replied to meluchja's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
1. What is the best shampoo/conditioner to use on him? The groomers evening primrose oil shampoo is good for dogs with dry skin. Always condition the furnishings to help prevent the fur knotting easily, type of conditioner doesn't really matter. Try not to wash him to often. 2. Is there anything more she should know about coat care, apart from grooming? A good weekly/twice weekly groom with a slicker and followed up with a comb to make sure any knots are out is all needed for maintainance - unless dog is getting wet/going into undergrowth etc which will need more coat work. Ears should be plucked at least every couple of months. A haircut should be done every 8 weeks to keep him looking tidy. Be careful on choosing the groomer as most have no idea how to do a proper schnauzer trim. 3. Will she needed to offer anything more than good quality dry food? Mine enjoy lots of fresh food, veg, fruit, mince, tripe. The main thing is keeping the diet below about 12% fat. 4. Can MS eat lamb flaps? Some might but the fat content could cause problems. Hyperlipidemia and pancreatits can occur in some minis. 5. I have read 1x fish oil capsule is good for MS, is the true? Should she give this? No real need to give this. 6. Is there anything more she should know? Schnauzers are a pretty hardy breed, keep the fat content low, keep them the correct weight with regular exercise and some brain work (they are generally clever dogs), enjoy the company of their family and not being left at home all day. They aren't as a breed sensative to any particular medications. some lines can be susceptable to bad teeth, so keep a close check on the teeth cleaning. Oh, and there is no such colour as 'silver' unless there is a puppy farm involved! The correct term is 'pepper and salt' unless of course your dog is a faded 'black and silver' -
No, the harsh coat doesn't just suddenly start growing, it takes the correct grooming for it to happen. It sounds like you need to go back to the vet, if you are sure the skin hasn't suffered any trauma, then it would suggest and underlying health problem.

I would put into that contract that the buyer agrees to have pet insurance - I also send pups off with 4 weeks free insurance from Petplan.

Have to agree with this. Unfortunately, the technical problems with the live streaming meant that I didn't get to see all the BIG judging, only the final 8. Would have been nice to see how some of the other BOB winners compared to the judge's final picks... I do wish that they would at least show the BOB judging for the breeds. It couldn't be too hard to put that online, surely. Westminster manages to do it...why not Crufts??? It is, after all, the world's largest dog show, and while I enjoy watching the other arena events, I want to see the breeds being judged! ETA: Yay, just saw the whole group There is a lot of BOB judging going directly to youtube. because he doesn't need to be 'standing to attention' to pee!

Pup will be fine to just travel in the crate or on someones knee on the trip home (some settle better on a knee). take straight outside when you get home so pup can toilet, then let them follow you back inside the house and show them the water bowl. Feed when it is next feed time according to breeders schedule. Leave it a few days before having friends around to meet pup. Book vet check asap to be sure pup is OK and have first injection if not already done.

I just use a deep layer of paper, doesn#t matterif it gets ripped up as it gets changed regularly. How often are you getting them outside?

Panadol? Is that for you or the bitch?
