  1. Depends what in particular about the dog the person is allergic to, but Fauves are a stripped breed, so don't have a seasonal drop, but the longer coat can drop hairs
  2. My friend had one, they are notorious for escaping and going on adventures. Hers would take a few hours to catch each time, if she knew which direction to look in.
  3. My mini schnauzer BLUE has got through to the semi finals in the Mikki Pet Top Model competition! I now need the help of as many facebook people as possible to get those votes up to get through to the finals (3 will be chosen and then the winner selected by judges, so no more voting rounds after this one) This is a direct link to BLUE Direct Link: http://apps.facebook.com/nextdogmodel/?show=entrant&e_id=33 you will need to 'like' Mikki Pet if you haven't already. Please vote for her, she will love to take part in the photo session and I have said I will donate the grooming products to be raffled as a prize for the Joint Miniature Schnauzer Eye Fund which is raising money to produce DNA tests for the eye conditions minis can be affected by. VOTE BLUE please!
  4. If the hernia needs fixing, then i would have that done before pup goes, otherwise, small ones can be left without any problem. If the bite is causing problems then this needs pointing out to the potential buyer, if it isn't causing any problems, then I would charge as normal. Overshot mouth may come right with time anyway.
  5. Mine just accept that a pup will be getting more meals then them. I would feed twice a day but then mine all do get 2 meals daily anyway. I'd keep him on adult kibble, see how he does foe keeping weight on and maybe add some tripe.
  6. How is he normally groomed by you in this area? What blade do you use?
  7. For something like this to be changed (and I speak after being involved in the addition of the white colour to the mini schnauzer breed standard) firstly the breed club members need to ask for the colour to be discussed at a club AGM and the club members need to vote on whether they want a change in the breed standard to happen - this may involve a postal vote being organised for all club members, or a show of hands at the meeting. EACH breed club must do this, until a majority of the clubs agree to get together to request the KC consider a change to the breed standard - the BS subcommittee will then look into it (and will look into whether there are health implications - eg for the merle chis, white mini schnauzers). Things are not going to change just because a couple of people from the other side of the world send an email
  8. I've now been to a few puppy parties and it is interesting to have a group of people there at the same time to go over a litter. We tend to have the person who has owned/bred/judges the breed longest to go over each pup and say what they like and don't like about each pup and the rest of us then look at the pup and see if we agree or not over what was said about the pup. I'll be using this method to help pick my next show pup
  9. Does Aus post do any proof of posting? We have this in the UK from Royal Mail, and any show has to accept your entry on the day of the show, if you can provide proof of entry before the closing date.
  10. Trouble these days, there are no accidents anymore, it is all a case of where there's blame there's a claim. What happened to the phrase sh!t happens?
  11. PF start a new thread and the judges can tell you!
  12. my dogs enjoy them, but you do have to bin them when they get small enough, mine have also had them wedged between the top teeth and had to have them pinged back out again. They also smell like burning hair when they are being chewed on for awhile - but then a lot of dried animal body parts smell! One of mine does vomit but only after going a bit overboard chewing them when a new batch arrives, just beacuse there is to much in the tum to digest
  13. I wonder how she will manage to persuade anyone to talk to her this time around?
  14. Not all borders are dog friendly, i've come across a few who are just aggressive with any dog that takes their fancy, one even had a go at my Giant Schnauzer - luckily for the BT I got infront before any damage was done. The ones that come for grooming are generally good with people but again, there is the occasional one that just has to snap without warning. Cairns have all been nice dogs that I have met, though interestingly a couple that were nearly black (one had a yellow undercoat) both started out as blonde/yellow coloured dogs for the first couple of years of life!
  15. I have an estate car (station wagon?? not sure what they are!) with one large breed dog who goes where the back seats would be in they weren't flat, to stop her getting onto the front or flying by in an accident I have a metal cargo 'net' with the tops fastening into things fitted at standard to the roof of the car. this can also be fitted behind the back seats. Have a look and see if the company who makes you car do a similar thing. The other dogs then travel in a purpose built crate with a removable divider. Luckily it is just the small dogs who go in this as the doors are to small for a medium/large breed to easily fit through. Doors hinge from the centre which is also a pain as you can only have one door open at a time, I would prefer them to open outwards like van doors.
  16. lol, not as if England - which is in the UK you know(!) hasn't got any pups available!
  17. One other thing to consider, is how you will manage a puppy with their training and heading into teenage time while pregnant/with a young baby demanding your time too. Some people manage great and others realise it is a little to much all at one time. Large breed pups can be a handful and bouncing around.
  18. I would want it out as soon as, all that infection is going around the body and can damage things like the heart, at the very least a trip to the vets for antibiotics is what I would do. tooth that loose may just come out with a wiff of gas and a quick pull instead of a full anaesthetic, but the vet would be the best one to sdvise as they can see the tooth and know about the health and age of your dog.
  19. I would take him now. Let us know how he goes if you do take him to see the specialist.
  20. I wouldn't want a dog on the seats with kids in an accident, scared dogs can get snappy at the closest things to them and I would worry about kids being bitten. My dogs travel in a split crate in the back of the car. Having heard about car crashes reported in the dog press, dogs who have been in crates have at worst been a bit bruised, other dogs have run off when the car door has burst open or helpers to the rescue have opened doors to get people out and dogs have run off, sometimes getting run over. I'm not convinced about the safety of the travel harness and I find it much easier to pop a dog into a crate then have to fiddle with getting a harness on and off and fastening them to a seatbelt.
