And the interesting part of breeding this colour, is watching the pigment arrive, here you can just see the stopper pads are black and the rest are pink atm. and to save me going back and editing. born 15th April 3 boys 3 girls all white. 5 are good weights and one tiny male, hopefully he will catch up soon to his siblings.

After staying up to early 4am and deciding nothing was happening, I went to sleep on the sofa for a few hours and woke to this

ME, we are next!! Here is a pic of Donna taken last night - guess how many are in there? Vet at scan at 4 weeks said 3 maybe 4 Vet at scan last weekend when Iwas worried about the discharge said he could see 2 heart beats.

I've been on the other side of this. I imported and showed a white mini schnauzer before the colour was put into the breed standard. In the UK we don't have DQ's. That dog qualified for Crufts and also won BOB at an open show under a big mini entry. Why did I do it? The colour needed to be seen by others in the breed and get them talking and maybe interested in the colour. I originally didn't like them but all their bad press got me doing my own research and I ended up buying one. There is little point in asking for a colour to be added to the breed standard if no one is interested in promoting, breeding and showing them. At Crufts, just before the colour was recognised, a white won DRCC! Our breed standard states that construction is to take priority over mere beauty points and a colour is only a beauty point (so long as it isn't related to other health problems). The colour is now recognised and I'm expecting my first white litter. In scandinavia there is a breeder of giant schnauzers who is starting to build up a gene pool for the black & silver giant and as they are FCI has been showing them in the pepper/salt category (as giants are shown under separate colours over there). In the USA and Canada, they were recognised on their breed standard until the mid '80s and a couple of the 'black and tans' as they were called over there then, did get titles in american and canada. Given the chance to own a good quality b/s, yes I would show it, the breed has far more problems then coat colour and it would be a shame to loose this stunning colour and not have them available to be bred on from. (and yes, I do judge, albeit not yet and champ level) In the OP I wonder if the comment from the exhibitor about the judge not knowing the colour was a DQ, could the comment have been taken out of context?

Donna has had milk for at least 8 days now. Hopefully pic of Donna taken on 1st april, will try to get another one later today

Still nothing happening with my girl but at least her first due date is this weekend (with last date from last mating being next wednesday). She's a bit of a wierd shape, she has sprung out sideways and there is very little underneath (except the milk bar developing). She doesn't actually spread out more when she lies on her belly.

Sorry you lost one of the boys
-
My minis have a box about 1m square. I think size depends on how you want to use the box later on when the pups are mobile and how big a play area you want to attach to it or if you are going to have them in something else.

fingers crossed for nuddy babies!

Has Anyone Had A Litter After A Puss Coloured Discharge
becks replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
How good it the scanner person? Could they have missed a pup? -
Thanks! No news today, so hopefully no news is good news! Discharge seems to be less then it was.

Thanks! And same hopes for your girl that all is well! -
I am thinking about doing that tomorrow if nothing has happened by then, as tuesday is when the good vets are back at work.

Still the same. Dark discharge, relaxed dog who is still going crazy at meal times!

Has Anyone Had A Litter After A Puss Coloured Discharge
becks replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
I'm having a similar worry atm, one week to go and we have a dark brown/black discharge. Vet check and scan could only see 2 heart beats of the 3 or 4 pups who were seen on earlier scan. Didn't want to give her antibiotics at this stage and said she should whelp in the next day or 2 - that was on saturday and we still have the discharge and a very relaxed hopefully mum to be. -
In the UK there is a loop hole that allows those who breed a working litter (and I think have a shot gun license) to still be able to dock certain breeds - terriers and gundogs.

try searching in this forum, there has been chat about it before and some other breeders have done this.

I'm told her previous litters have been 2 or 3 days early (but then she had always stood much later in her season then this time, so it hasn't started off as normal for her) so hopefully she will hold on a few more days. She's a quiet girl at the best of times, so it isn't easy to tell if she is quieter then normal. atm she is curled up on the sofa after wolfing her breakfast. The noob vet didn't say what is was, just that it wasn't a good sign. He said if the pups heart beats were above 270 then it would have been a c-section that day, even if they were to early to be viable. I've been lucky to have pretty straight forward pregnancies and only one problem at whelping time, so of course now I have an import bitch mated to a dog I can't use again things are not going as easily! I'm stressed enough already with a few other things, including one of my giants who now lives with a family member, has now gone into liver failure. I could use a strong drink, but of course, can't do that incase it's another vet trip!
-
Having a bit of a stressful time of it right now. Donna is due next sunday from first mating and today had a dark brown/black, thick discharge. Took her to the vets (only to find out they don't do consults on a sat afternoon, it has to be 'on call' vet, so £60 just to say hello vet!). of course the on call vets are the newly trained ones (and this one had a strong S.African accent I was struggling a bit with). The internal exam didn't yeild any info as he couldn't feel anything. Took her off for a scan and says he can see 2 good heart beats - bit of a worry as my normal vet could see 3 and maybe a 4th. She looks big enough to have been having 4. Milk is in and newbie vet thinks she will whelp in next day or 2. So now we are on a waiting game.

If There Is An Abscess At The Root Of A Dog's Tooth
becks replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If they are like people in this respect, the abcess would mean the root is dead anyway, so it would be an extraction as I don't think they do root canal fillings on dogs!! -
Getting A White Coat To 'shine'
becks replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
White isn't going to look as shiny as you just don't have the same contrast compared to a dark coat. Good food - sounds like that is covered bathing with a good quality shampoo and conditioner (to smooth down the cuticles on the hair shaft) and you could even use a spray on conditioner too. Also important to remove all the dead coat, as that will remain dull -
Nice to know you are catching up with the UK, we have been doing this for decades!
-
if the pic isn't to big, this is my girl with 12 days to go
-
Really? I've never heard of them called gold (in the UK) how long ago was this?
-
Well said Angelsun! I breed one breed, have shown another for over a decade and continue to follow that breed and see whats what. I have also been following a 3rd breed for the last couple of years (here and abroad) getting to know lines and breeders and going to club shows. The only problem in the UK, groups can be spread over 3 or 4 days of a show, which can make for expensive show weekends if each breed has a good judge!
