  1. How exciting a beautiful Great Dane puppy can't wait to see pics. What colour is she? Have you picked a name? We pick up our little Vizsla girl a week tomorrow I am beyond excited feel like I've been waiting forever!!! She is blue and I am calling her Vida (pronounced vee-duh) :) Oh that is very exciting!!!!!! Have you chosen her name? How long have you been waiting for? Can't wait to see pics of Vida love the blue colour and what a lovely name :). We are calling our girl Indie, we've only been waiting since she was born so 8 weeks lol!!! Seems like a lot longer tho! It will be photo overload when we get Indie - you've been warned :) Feels like forever doesn't it???!! Oh can't wait to see pics, an overload is very welcomed lol ;)
  2. Not sure how to work it out but that's fine don't want to bother you any further. Cheers for all your info.
  3. Btw SAS the guaranteed analysis for HS has changed. Now 23% protein, 12% fat, 1.1% calcium and still 0.80% phos.
  4. I said it was a low qualiety diet. Plenty of Breeders feed it, it doesn't mean they are a bad breeder. Like anything with knowledge comes change, not many people are really look that indepth into the ingrediant panel yet or simply feed it because they get it discounted or free - I mean why else would you feed GMO corn and a kibble with 3 low quality fillers in the top 4? May I then ask your opinion about what you consider the best kibble out at the moment for dane pups? Holistic seems to do well. Holistic Select Lge & Giant Breed Puppy Protein: 24% Calcium: 1.0% Phosphorus: 0.80% Fat: 14% (Calc/Phos Ratio 1.3:1) Price: 13.6kgs for approx $118.00 That's exactly what I've chosen.
  5. SAS, the document you linked me is fantastic and very informative - thank you for that. My choice of Holistic Select is indeed one of the suitable options listed on the document with appropriate calc/phos levels. May I ask why Advance is not recommended on that document? It is recommended in that document It is... AdvanceTotal Wellbeing All Breed Protein: 26% Calcium: 0.62% Phosphorus: 0.51% Fat: 15% (Calc/Phos Ratio 1.2:1) Price: 15kgs for approx $108.00 Yep saw that already apologised lol

  7. Sorry edited my reply as soon as I saw that lol

  9. Wow intense. I still haven't said that Advance is in any way crap, just that there's better options out there. There are no 'trust' issues between myself and the breeder. But, if she honestly thought that Advance was the best choice then she would have told me that and recommended I stay on it. She didn't. She is happy for me to change and made it clear her choice is based on Australian made products (which someone here has stated Advance is not anyway). I have the breeders blessing so not sure why this has turned into a debate when all I was asking was what everyone here is feeding or has fed their Great Dane pups and why. Thank you everyone for your input and opinions, but I've made my choice now after researching the hell out of all the suitable options and I am happy with my decision :)

  11. Thank you!!!!!!! I couldn't agree more with everything you have written. I truly do just want the best for my pup, hence all the research and questions. I was simply asking for food opinions but instead got told to stick to the breeders chosen food, even enough as I mentioned the breeder is happy for me to change over (slowly of course) and did not have any significant reasons for sticking to her current food of choice (Advance) other than she likes using Australian products. I am going with Holistic Select after my own independent research. Would have loved to read what other dane owners are feeding or have fed their pups, regardless of what their breeders did or do, but unfortunately that didn't happen.
  12. Yeah that link is for Advanced, not 'Advance'. Totally different product. I have looked at all options. Ones such as Canidae are great but as Danois pointed out, too high in protein for dane pups. I've chosen Holistic Select because IMO it ticks all the boxes protein, calcium and phosphorous levels wise for a growing dane, and the ingredients are good quality. Thanks Kajtek - good to know someone else here has been feeding HS and is happy with it :)
  13. That's a shame thank you I have requested to join the group :)

  15. Picking up our puppy this Saturday, a beautiful Great Dane girl :) very excited!!!
  16. After speaking with a few people and doing further research of my own I have decided to go with Holistic Select :) thanks everyone for your opinions and comments
  17. Oh I thought all health guarantees were only present in the puppy contracts! That's good hews then :)
  18. Hi all! Just wondering if there is such a thing as training group or club for Great Danes in Adelaide? I know there's plenty of general breed trainers and puppy classes, but would love a breed specific group! My sister has 2 German shepherds and takes them to GSD club for training, so looking for something similar for Danes? TIA :)
  19. Thanks guys, makes me feel better!
  20. Thanks all :) was just curious to know as have read a lot about health guarantees in puppy contracts.
  21. Is it a requirement of a registered Great Dane breeder to sell their puppies with a contract? My breeder is registered and comes highly recommended to me, but does not sell her puppies with contracts. Just wanting to check whether this is considered normal of ok... Cheers
  22. Yep, that's why my initial question clearly asked who had tried either or both of these brands before and what their thoughts were. And yep I did read but was also curious about dane owners personal experiences :)
  23. Advance isn't Aust owned, it is owned by Waltham/Mars, along with other dog foods. They do however have a factory in Wodonga where it is Aust produced. Then her reasons don't make sense lol.., PS everyone can stop worrying I already knew RAW diets aren't appropriate for pups and wasn't at all considering it. Once again, simply asking for opinions on these 2 brands but it seems like I'm asking too much as not one reply so far bar one has even answered my question.
