  1. Awesome SecretKei! Yeah they are long - the tug one is over 5 hrs
  2. corvus Mainly I want to learn how I can be more fun for the dog, and make interaction with me more fun as a reward. The previews I have watched on YouTube look really good with just the kind of information I am looking for. It is going to take more than watching my dog, or I would have figured it out already
  3. Looking around for some resources to help me with tugging with my dog and I came across some DVDs from Leerburg which look great, wondering whether others have seen them/what do they think/any other DVDs on motivation/rewarding/playing/tugging with your dog The Power of Playing Tug With Your Dog http://leerburg.com/221.htm Also found this one on motivation which I think would be useful in helping to master some of the mechanics which I know I need help with Advanced Concepts in Motivation http://leerburg.com/228.htm
  4. Thanks kelpiechick I'm interested in improving my knowledge base. So would go as auditor. I like to work things out in my own time, wouldn't want the pressure of time and also get a bit self conscious in front of a crowd. Certainly improving contacts is a biggie for me atm. Would love to know what you have had a look at so far.
  5. I think whether they single step or double step depends on a variety of factors including size and structure as well as method of training. The little guys can't single step. When my fella is really going great guns he single steps but when he is not as confident he double steps (or rather staggers his steps, so will be two on each side but not at the same time). With Kaos I used a few different methods Channel, slanted poles (V-weaves) and a 3 pole method to help with entries. I am thinking I might try 2x2 next time. ETA: When I said channel I meant what you have in the poll as tunnel (different terminology). I didn't use guides with Kaos at all. Tried them previously with ZOe with no success.
  6. Thanks guys Hope you get a working spot Agility Dogs! I think if I go I will just audit, as I will be travelling from Sydney so not sure I want to bring the dog that far for a start and I get self conscious when being watched by a crowd so not sure how well Kaos will work with me like that, and it might be rather warm. Yes I am also trying to decide whether handling or contacts need the most work - they both need work . I saw Greg briefly at the World Dog Games and it would be great to see him for a longer period of time. Not sure how the e-course works or when it will be on or price or anything, only that it is in the works.
  7. I only have a certain amount of money/time I can spend on training seminars etc. What do people think of seminars vs ecourses/online content? Just found out about Greg Derrett coming out in January who would be awesome to see! And also know Susan Garrett is planning on running an ecourse on contacts at some point which I would also love to do. If you had to choose, which would you do? Why?
  8. Normally goes til 9 or 9:30. I come from near Hornsby, not normally too bad, takes me 30 to 45 mins depending on traffic.
  9. Manly & Districts is the only one I know off the top of my head on the Northern Beaches. There is Agility Dog Club of NSW at Castle Hill Thursday nights and Paws 4 Fun at Castle Hill Sunday afternoons
  10. There is also PICSI in Parramatta on a Friday night - is that too far for you to go? Dan Mahoney Oval 7pm Fridays
  11. I worry most about dogs rushing us. Happened yesterday. I let them get a good distance away before I entered the park and walked the other direction. As soon as the dog saw us it made a beeline for us As fast as it could and intense expression. Now while it may have been friendly just very rude I have had one of mine attacked before and the one I was walking does not like being rushed at by other dogs so I did not want to take the chance and end up with a fight. I yelled out for the owner to call their dog (they had been cleaning up after it), thankfully they did before it got too close and they then put it on lead Gave me a scare though.
  12. I do my own dog's nails. Some of them tolerate it better than others. Kaos had to have an anaesthetic recently so I got his done while he was under to save me doing it when he is recovering as he is one of the more difficult ones to do.
  13. Not sure who it was that told me, don't worry Casima I've just been wondering for a while, as there does seem to be a huge number of people wearing club shirts and I have never been game enough to until I knew if it was OK.
  14. Cool. It's something I've been wondering about for a while, wanted to wear club shirt but somebody a while back told me you could be disqualified for wearing a club shirt, but there are so many people wearing them I wasn't sure.
  15. What is the rules regarding wearing club T-Shirts or ones with training organisations/groups on them? I thought they were not allowed at trials but I see so many people wearing them.
  16. Mine either stay at boarding kennels (individual runs - no mixing with strange dogs) or with Diesel's breeder
  17. I've trained at Western Suburbs (Bressington Park) but I trained on the Tuesday night trialling class, which would be different to the Satruday class as Sat class geared more towards pet people (Sat class was run by Delta trained people when I was there, Tues run by other triallers). I enjoyed the Tuesday class.
  18. What do you currently do when he tries to hump another dog? I would not let him do it - besides being bad manners some dogs really don't like being humped and could react aggressively to it.
  19. Mine is from the dog in the book Kavik the Wolf Dog (and what I named the Schipperke I had in the USA)
  20. Kaos met a Shar pei the other day and had no idea what to make of it! After the initial sniff he wanted to avoid it.
  21. Funny that you say he almost looks fragile - if I didn't know better and had no perspective I would think Rotty in there
  22. Not much help but there was one on yesterday
  23. How long have you had her? You may be trying to go too fast especially if you have only just gotten her and she is still settling in and learning the rules. Can she stay in position for a while if you remain still? Duration before distance before distraction. And I agree with rewarding in position.
