  1. I like to have fun with their names, you can't have as much fun with kids names so why not pets! - I have a Kaos :D and also like the names Sassy and Fanta
  2. At least keep them separated until you can get someone in to help you.
  3. So sad that they can't see the value of working dogs that have helped to build this country

  6. I tried that once, and my lot had the same reaction as yours
  7. If that is the case, it appears the laws are confusing or not well understood by those with and those who breed working dogs, as I know others who have gotten working breed pups who were not microchipped. I will just get my pup done at the next vaccination.
  8. I'm getting a WKC reg pup soon, breeder is on a farm and works his dogs, sells most as workers. The breeder said the pup won't be microchipped so I will have to get that done myself when I get the pup home. This was the case with Kaos's breeder as well (also WKC and on a farm, works her dogs and sells most as workers)
  9. Maybe then get a dog run/fence off some of the yard, make sure there is nothing in there that could be a problem if she chews it, and put shade over the run.
  10. I would get some shelter put up in the yard so you can leave her outside. It's not that difficult. I have a puppy run I recently put shade in as I am getting a puppy in a month - a big tarp attached to the house on one end and the fence on the other end. I have a verandah and lots of trees in the main yard for the adult dogs. Both main yard and puppy yard have a kennel and trampoline bed for each dog.
  11. Walk fun we had today - Zoe was rushed and almost attacked by a cat (yes that's right! It came running at us and was about to attack us, I had to shoo it off!) and and off lead dog annoyed us while I was walking the others, outside its yard on a major highway, which I had to cross to get away from it.
  12. Thanks! I will look for those.
  13. Thanks! That was helpful :) I'll see which ones are at my supermarket and local pet store.
  14. I am thinking of using dog rolls as treats for variety, any suggestions as to which one would be best? I am looking for one that would be easy to cut into small cubes that would keep their shape. Would I be able to freeze them?
  15. Since you are here, why not take the time to introduce yourself :) How did you get started? What made you decide to do what you do? Who are your inspirations? Did you do any study or courses to further your knowledge? What do you like to do with your own dogs? A lot of people come on DOL to ask about behavioural issues, and they are very often referred on to behaviourists or trainers :)
  16. Thanks for the reply :) I find it an interesting topic and would certainly be more likely to get a rescue at some point if I had a better idea of how to temperament test dogs for suitability first.
  17. OT sorry but . . . Cosmolo, Do you have a section or workshop on assessing dogs for suitability for dogsports? That would be very interesting :)
  18. I looked at the site and tried to find any mention of what he has done to gain a status of professional, or even trainer. I couldn't find anything. No mention of what he has done with his dogs, or instructing, or taking any sort of class or working anywhere with dogs.
  19. I do onlead walks to and from the park, where I do some training and they get to run off lead (Kaos and Diesel. Zoe gets walked separately as she is dog aggro - she gets a lead walk and some training which includes chasing a ball off lead and body awareness exercises). Kaos also goes to agility training once a week, a trial once or twice a month and training every day which includes tugging, drive exercises, speed exercises, control exercises and body awareness exercises.
  20. Yep! LOTS of material! Hope everyone is enjoying it!
  21. It's a bummer Diesel has skin problems as I think he would be good at this :)
  22. I wonder why they wanted to visit the puppies so young MonElite? You can't temperament test a 2 week old puppy! I am happy to pay for the expertise of the breeder - their knowledge of the breed, lines, temperament, conformation, drive. I acknowledge that it takes time and money to test their dogs in their chosen arena, and raise a litter.
