Susan Garrett Recallers Online Course

Great on the tug - drop - run game! Took me ages to have success with that one! (Kaos used to just stand there holding the toy instead of chasing me . . . but he is good now! Not quite up to that with Nitro yet, soon though!) -
There may be some ideas in this video

I think that was a polite way of saying they were shot :) -

This was doing the rounds on FB - looks like fun!

Thanks for the update :) Hope she continues to improve!

Hope it is nothing serious! Let us know how you go.

Try shaping it - so first reward as close to your hand as he will put his nose and gradually increase criteria so he is touching your hand, and then harder pressure on your hand. Also helps if you reward by putting the treats in the hand that he has touched. All of mine have picked it up very quickly! Here is Nitro using the nose touch for contact training

What about a custom made one? Like a place that makes custom made enclosures for cars? Welded instead of collapsible. http://www.caddystorage.com.au/pdf%20files/CaddyStorage_DogCages.pdf

For a wire crate I have found Vebo Pet to be the strongest I have seen so far http://www.vebopet.com.au/ Or you could try the plastic airline crates - one like this http://www.mypetwarehouse.com.au/PETMATE-VARI-KENNEL-FASHION-5-XLARGE-BLEACH-LINEN-%28AIRLILNE-APPROVED%29-%2A%2B-~-p-14855 Also, have you trained her to enjoy being in her crate? If she is constantly trying to get out, it sounds like she is not that happy being in there. I have found feeding them in there, and throwing some treats in every time they go in, helps a lot. Also, you could try Crate Games, which I have also found a very useful and fun way to teach them to enjoy the crate and have self control

Parents State Dogs Responsible For Critical Injuries To Toddler

RIP little dude I have been pulled over walking a dog (not mine) and tore the medial ligament in my knee. I don't always have my phone on me. When I hurt my knee I didn't own a phone then, had to catch the dog and hobble to another client's house to ask to use their phone! -
If I am uncomfortable with the body language of a dog in the waiting room at the vet towards mine, I will avoid them (stay at other end of reception) or tell the nurse/receptionist/vet so that they can either move the other dog so I can get past (take them outside/into consult room), or take me out a different way (Zoe was dog aggressive, so I would wait outside til my turn, and if it was busy after I would go out the back way).

Diesel is fed around 7:30 am and all the dogs are fed around 8pm

So sorry PD When Zoe passed in Feb we were quite honest with the kids - she was old and sick. They did ask where she was and/or talked about her and her death for several weeks afterwards though, which was quite upsetting as I felt I was forever repeating that she wasn't coming home . I remember reading that you shouldn't mention sleep as it could make the kids scared to go to bed at night time.

Best Agility Dvds Or Online Courses
Kavik replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Success With One Jump - SG :D (really great ideas using no or one jump, so great for limited space - great for obstacle focus, understanding different handling moves etc) Shape Up Agility - Justine Davenport, similar to SG's H360 in terms of handling, but from what I've heard isn't into the same amount of detail as SG so may be more straightforward to follow - I am going to her seminar in October. 2X2 Weave Training - SG :D Recallers - SG :D (though not strictly agility, so many of the games are really useful for agility! And could work for obedience too) I've been really tempted to get the Silvia Trkman DVDs! -
They do seem much tougher and 'harder' than Kelpies. Some friends of friends of OH had one - got him as a pup, a lively friendly thing. We only saw them occasionally with the dog, but as he got older he developed some difficult habits, probably typical of ACDs that have not had a proper outlet for their drives or proper boundaries - chasing and nipping people/bikes etc. Unfortunately this was not gotten under control, and one day he got out and bit a child which got him declared dangerous. The last time I saw him at a party, he was in a crate and overweight, and he went absolutely berserk when he saw my son, I am sure he would have attacked him if he had not been contained . What really scared me was that they then had a baby of their own! I was so scared of what that dog would do to the baby I found out earlier this year that they had him euthanased.

I also struggle with the Game of Deke and Smoke Ya. Sometimes I can get them to work, sometimes not. So I don't play them as much as some of the others. -
Colourbond fences here too - they are great! It was also the first thing we did when we moved here. The dogs are quieter and I know they can't get out.

Very interesting! Mine are gutses and will eat anytime  Though Diesel was a bit like that - but he was never really motivated by much. People did tell me to feed all of his food as training, which of course is an excellent idea and pretty much what I do with Nitro (even if some of it is just scattered in his crate when he goes into his crate at various times of the day) but it is harder with a big dog - they need so much more food! -
What? Truly for people with more money than sense

I agree that the behaviourist advising not to go to the club yet is not necessarily a bad thing - clubs are very high distraction environments!
-
They do like a bark though! Kelpies do too at times  Maybe one day when I decide to get a little dog and am looking for a training challenge . . .
