  1. Wow! Impressive run! *thinks about how on earth she can get that level of control while retaining speed*
  2. A lot of SchH dogs heel like that GSD. I think in ANKC obedience you would be penalised for that heeling style though. One SchH comp I watched the dog bounced its way through the heeling
  3. Anyone else have videos they really liked?
  4. Nice second Dobie vid MonElite! Couldn't get the first one working for me. Left about turn is impressive!
  5. Has anyone who has done the NDTF course before it was Certificate III managed to get their qualification upgraded to Certificate III? PM me if you prefer.
  6. I thought it would be fun if we would post agility videos that we have found inspiring. Here is one from me to start - a Kelpie of course!
  7. I thought it might be fun if we have a thread to post obedience videos we have found that are inspiring. Here's one from me to start it off - a SchH obedience video
  8. I use the plastic ones, don't know where to get wooden ones (esp that would fit a Kelpie)
  9. I decided to give it a go with Zoe. Very interesting. She came to about 9 o'clock the first time, 10 o'clock the second. We were in the novice trialling class last time I took her (before CCD was in place) but never trialled. She is now 9 years old, we don't do much formal training any more, just bits and pieces for fun. I haven't done as much find heel position with her as I have with Diesel.
  10. Just did it with Diesel, and as I expected he came to heel position, not in front. We do lots of find heel position so that is what I thought he'd do. We're pretty much up to CCD standard, apart from focusing in busy areas like trials
  11. I'll try this one with Diesel later. My prediction is that he will go to heel position.
  12. dogdude Do you mean for them to focus even when you look straight ahead instead of looking at them? That is what I am working on with Diesel at the moment.
  13. Have you looked at Clean Run? They have a variety of treat bags. I am finding I prefer the ones with drawstring as the ones with hinges I found didn't last that long. ETA link http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...;category_ID=54
  14. I don't know if Kaos was marked with a ribbon.
  15. not necessarily - Kaos went mental when I put a flat collar on him the first time
  16. I've seen them just with Domitor, nothing else
  17. I agree with poodlefan - go back and try to get a short period of focused heeling. Even if it is only a few steps to begin with. This is what I've been doing with Diesel - just really short periods of really good heeling then release and reward. I've built it up to about oh, 12-15 steps so far but really good steps
  18. A send away is when you teach the dog to run away from you in a straight line - normally taught to a food or toy target which you move slowly further away and then you can fade it if you wish. In SchH the send away includes a drop at the end after running a certain distance. Dogs with drive pick this up very quickly, they really like it, it is a lot of fun, and they do lots of running Here is Kaos (who is the best at it) doing one to 40 paces, he can now do up to 54 paces. Diesel is the worst at this exercise, though he is improving a lot recently, he can do up to about 18 paces.
  19. I microwaved chicken for Kaos's recent bout of diarrhoea (after fasting 24hrs), worked fine
  20. Very important to have goals Even in agility, on specific pieces of equipment, I have been asked (and been able to answer ) what my goal was and exactly how I wanted the dog to perform the exercise (was asked about dogwalk). Like this week, my goal is to increase Diesel's send away distance, and (weather permitting, not looking good though) get a good tracking session in where he tracks consistently without hurrying or circling - so focussed and calm in a straight line. Kaos is to improve his send away to a toy as we have had issues with his stay when I go to place the toy. ETA: and weaving - getting close now!
  21. Mine aren't perfect either not by a long shot! I just try to focus on what I want to work on that day or that week. Occasionally needs a change of plans like today with the rain, just means we do stuff we haven't practiced in a while. And Diesel surprised me today by actually enjoying his retrieving
  22. The first vet I worked at ages ago used domitor for cat castrations, no other anaesthetic (no gaseous general).
  23. I agree there are heaps of tricks you can teach! apart from those already mentioned: retrieve, target training, put object in box Today, even though it is wet we did: * ladder hind end awareness work * contacts for agility * retrieve * send away
  24. You don't have the correct option for me - I'm sure the dogs are great but I am the one holding us back on the photo front, I am not a good photographer, have no idea what I am doing
