There is a lot of foundation work you can do for agility with a puppy that does not require equipment and does not stress joints I'll try to search a few threads for you.
-
Really? I didn't know that.

If you are concerned about descrimination based on your breed (which is fair enough) maybe a private trainer would be best? club instructors are volunteers, and have varied views on things, I don't know of any clubs off hand which are particularly bull breed friendly, but I don't have a Bull breed so never had to deal with that. Maybe Ruthless knows? I think she goes to the one in Centennial Park with her Bull Breeds (Eastern Suburbs Dog Training?). Private trainers I know that would not descriminate on breed are: K9 Force from this forum http://www.k9force.net/ and Nathan (you'll have to PM MonElite for his details, I don't have them off hand, can't remember his business name)

Pet Resorts Australia has lifetime training support for your dog if you do boarding and training through them GDTC that you originally posted is also B&T. That is why I asked why you wanted Boarding and training? Where are you located? Would you be interested in club training or one on one? I know both clubs for group club training and some private trainers that could do one on one training in the Sydney area

That's a good question huski, I just assumed obedience

I would not recommend Guard Dog Training Centre, do a search on here about them. Is there a reason you want boarding and training as opposed to going to a club? Clubs train weekly all around Sydney, don't cost a lot of money, and train handlers and dogs together instead of someone else training the dog and then showing you what they've done. Training is a lot about the connection between dogs and handlers and about consistency in rewarding/correction. If you really would prefer to send your dog to a centre, Pet Resorts Australia is Steve Austin's new place in Dural. http://www.petresortsaustralia.com/

I Think Im Getting Too Old For All This

That is a great shot She is beautiful! -
That sounds interesting. I don't know of any clubs that have a similar structure. What happens if you miss a week?

Yep I have a couple of scratch marks on my arms and legs that are permanent -
So you have to do all the equipment separately before you do any sequencing? EFS

Yep white pants maybe not such a good idea! (though I can't talk, had beige pants on yesterday, and though did not do tugging, the dogs still managed to get them pretty dirty with all the mud we have!) -
Great to hear her progress

Good stuff So you're going to try four on the floor instead?
-
Thanks OH made it for me - he is better at graphics stuff than I am.

No I don't have my own A-Frame (yet). I will have to train on club equipment, so it should be interesting I will do all the groundwork including jump grid to make it easier once I get on equipment. The other tricky thing will be the difference in size between ANKC and ADAA equipment. I might try to wrangle one for Christmas but that's a way off
-
I'm curious too I am going to try to teach a running A-Frame (don't laugh ) with Rachel Sander's Box method. Out of the running contact methods I've seen it seems to make the most sense and a big enough target area to see whether the dog gets it. We'll see if I suceed with only access to club equipment. I am going to do a 2o2o dogwalk though.

Try this on the wrong dog and you'll be on the receiving end of a very serious bite. What works on a dog of one temperament doesn't automatically work on another. A serious resource guarder would be provoked by such actions. I'd never ever behave in a way that deliberatley provoked a dog to to bite me. Ever. Hi poodlefan What is your method for a biter? Belinda Summon a qualified professional with a lot of experience in dog aggression. No other method is recommended by me. I don't believe in online diagnosis of these kinds of issues. Its dangerous. You need to know WHY the dog is biting. Currently you don't and anyone here would be guessing. If its dominance then you work generally on the relationship. If its resource guarding then you work on lessening anxiety about losing food or again work more generally on the relationship. If a dog is growling or snapping at you these are warnings. Ignore the warnings and the behaviour may escalate. Discipline the warnings and they may disappear, leaving you with a dog that bites without any. You've got to remember that your dog will not differentiate between one member of that household and another. If you're poking him and taking resources, what do you think his reaction will be when your grandson comes near him and he has something he treasures. When a dog bites hard, it learns that unwanted human behaviour stops. What you can see with dogs that have learned to bite is that the bite threshold plummets - they bite earlier and harder for less provocation. Dont' play with this DRC.. get professional help now. This is a safety issue - for your grandson AND for your dog. The results for both of them if a serious bite occurs will be tragic. This is precisely my concern with TV training shows. Watching a professional with hundreds of hours of experience in both evaluating and training dogs work with one dog will not give you a surefire method of solving your own dogs's problems. More physical forms of correction are fraught with risk for amateurs. :p ETA: Over do the corrections and you're teaching your dog that confrontation with you provokes a physical response from which he needs to defend himself. That's a lesson you never want to teach. If you'd not be game to use these very same methods on a 40kg Rottweiller dont' do it to a pup. To do it because he's smaller is simply bullying IMO. Completely agree Poodlefan

One of the hardest things for me to learn was to allow the dog to make mistakes especially in shaping behaviours. Also I tend to want to add a verbal cue too early. Am getting better at that though. I have a lagging problem with Diesel too so that is why when I do practice heeling (not that often now) it is in short fun bursts and using shaping with the clicker. If he is enthusiastic I will throw in a few steps and maybe a turn.
-
I agree with Staranais I have been doing the find heel game with a clicker and mark when the dog is in heel position and throw the food. Diesel gets as enthusiastic with this as he gets I start off moving (tried stationary first but he got bored and started sniffing the ground and wandering, if I am moving he is more interested) and then stationary so he had to scoot his behind around to get into heel position. I may teach it this way from the start next time

Kaos is definitely a 600 dog Did a brief attempt to measure him at ADAA and they said, well he is obviously a Maxi dog! and left it there
-
I called Manly's trial secretary and they said to come and they will fit me in sometime during the day so it may just be ADC's policy for measuring after trials.
-
I'm going to try to make it to the trial on the 4th to get him measured before his trial on the 11th. Trial secretary for the one I entered said they are only measuring dogs after trials now.

Cool I am going to try to make it to watch the SchH III obedience and character work -
When entering ANKC trials, when it asks for agility class, , what do I put? I am entering Novice Jumping, is that what I put?
