How did you train this initially? Did you use a target?

Are you covering the crate at agility? They are often calmer if they can't see.

Not sure how to help just saying that dogs don't need a bath every week unless they have a skin problem that the vet says needs attention that often. I try to do mine once a month, my skin problem dog more often if possible.

Agree with the others - flat collar is all you will need on a puppy. Nylon burns, canvas or leather is much more comfortable. and also agree with SecretKei - if you decide on a check chain later on when the dog is older, go for Herm Sprenger brand as it is good quality

Ah, fenced dog parks - the joys! I think I know the area you are talking about and I avoid the fenced areas when I am there for a trial, don't trust the people or the dogs! I do my warming up and rewarding in a grassed area behind the fenced area.

Having had an aggressive dog, I just now err on the side of caution I only go to parks where there are few to no dogs and watch interactions carefully. Knowing the types of dogs mine aren't comfortable with , if I see a dog with that interaction/play style we avoid it and leave if necessary. I have talked to lots of people with Kelpies and watched Kelpies at training, competitions, parks, dog daycares and there certainly are some situations that they are not comfortable with in general.

I would be careful of dog parks, especially if your Kelpie has a tendency to be fearful. I tried to socialise Zoe like that, and she turned dog aggressive. I've since learned that Kelpies do not always like exuberant, in your face, rough play that often occurs at a dog park. I was much more careful with Kaos.

Yes, Vickie does this and did a bit with Kaos when he was having issues with the dogwalk at the start.

Bummer, this is the product I use Any heartworm prevention that does not do fleas too? I need to do fleas/ticks so currently use Advantix for this, don't want to double up on meds.

Well done I meant to come up and say hi but didn't get time. It was my first trial on Sat since having a baby. She was well behaved and I was able to get my 4 runs in. Got a quallie in JDX and I think in GD (got someone to pick up my cards cause I didn't want to stay too late with baby so need to check GD). I went in just wanting to have a good time and a go, and had a much better result than I was expecting!

Cosmolo neatly summed up my reasons put better than I can atm with fussy kids in the evening lol. A lot of my rewards are treats (I train for agility and obedience)and I would not want them being given treats like that for so long in my absence. One of my dogs would absolutely get obsessed with it and stand near it all day - she is an obsessive type and will stare at a spot for ages where she last saw a lizard etc. Pretty low call that I would not want my dogs to be happy. I put a lot of work into them.

I wouldn't want my dog to get treats all day long. I have read your explanation and still not sure it would work. sorry.

Another to crate training here. Positives as everyone else has said: * holidays, camping, travelling with dog - gives them their own 'home' that they are familiar with, allows you to stay with dog in places you otherwise would not be able to * Training, trials, shows, seminars - somewhere safe for them to stay when you are not working them, again somewhere familiar for them to relax * injury, grooming, vet - gets them used to being confined so they don't freak out if they have to be confined for a procedure or rest etc * sleeping, when tradespeople come, at home when you cannot supervise - you know they are safe and not destroying the house, and many tradespeople are scared of dogs

You don't have to wait. You can lure and cue. You don't have to free shape behaviour and personally I don't as I know what I want to the dog to do and can illicit it. A clicker is a marker.. nothing more, nothing less. Its quick, has no tone and sounds the same every time you use it. That's why some folk prefer it to verbal markers. A clicker is used in training to mark desired behaviour but it is NOT a training method. Quality of clickers varies. I like the Blackdog clicker that has a button and a wrist strap. For those who have trouble juggling everything, put the treats and the clicker in the same hand. True, you can lure and cue. I like free shaping though, even though it can be frustrating sometimes. It is good for my training skills as well as for teaching the dogs how to offer behaviours.

I agree with the others - would certainly not let her off lead at a dog park even if she is muzzled. Not fair on everybody else.

Yes cat was not very happy - why would you just sit there and not stop it?
