After much confusion and deliberation I picked up a Nikon D3200 kit today! I literally got it out of the box and my neighbour was out the front with her Border Collie, with another dog from up the road....... so with permission here are quite literally the first pics with it in fully auto mode. i look forward to getting to know it..... ps, i do not groom either of these 2 scruff bags!

Thank you. I will send you a message about this later once I finish work. :)

Its beautiful seriously people, see it for what it is....a beautiful furry peace loving creature! More people get injured by their dogs than they do by Huntsman spiders!

Any updates? I don't follow any dog rescue or dog sites on FB anymore so I probably miss updates. Cheers. -
And I might be interested in something pre loved if anyone has anything suitable.....

Hello good people of the photo forum. I am looking at upgrading my little camera that i use in my shop to take pictures of my clients. I currently just have a little point n shoot Olympus SZ-14. Its been doing the job but its getting a bit tired. I really think I would like a major upgrade. I would like a camera I can have a bit of fun with outside of the salon too, but for the most part it will be taking pictures of dogs, indoors, under fluorescent lights, and quite close up. I can usually only get approx 1 to 1.5 metres away from the dog at best. Any suggestions? Is there something in the middle between what I have and huge expense of lenses on a camera, or would just the sort of camera I can upgrade with lenses be great. Im a complete novice so be gentle ! . TIA :)

What the heck sort of vet would let an owner do that while they were in surgery anyway. Surely that would not be legal here and get the vet into some serious hot water?

Just because we can, doesn't always mean we should.

I have worked with dogs for 29 years now doing things to them that most of them would prefer not to have done but even then truly aggressive behavior from young puppies is rare. Every now and then I do meet a pup that is overtly aggressive and some of them come around with training and some of them go down a fairly predictable path. When I was running the dog rescue I went out to a country pound to assess a whole litter of kelpie cross pups approx 8 weeks old. I couldn't get near any of them. I had to refuse the whole lot and they were pts.

Link to competition details I heard about this on the radio on the way home today so I thought I would see if I could find a link. I thought some of the DOL photographers may be interested.

You have too many dogs when training and socializing them all becomes difficult, and they are not recieving enough life stimulation, when the dogs are stressed amongst themselves because the owner wants all the doggies, but can't see that it's not working for the dogs, when you can't afford the basic vet care for each and every one, with a bit left over for emergencies, when grooming them all properly is becoming too expensive or time consuming, and all that depends a lot on the owner and the type of dogs, so it's a bit subjective. When any area of any of the dogs lives is compromised due to the volume of dogs....that's too many. I wrote here once before that I used to be one of those people that wanted to buy land and move to the country so I could have lots of dogs.....and I worked bloody hard and made my dream come true, only to be confronted with the harsh reality that what I wanted and what was best for the dogs involved, were perhaps not the same thing.

All the lagotto I have handled have also been skittish with weak nerve, unfortunately. For hypoallergenic in that size range with great temperament and nerve I would consider Bichon and Bedlington. Neither need to be kept in 'silly floofy hair cuts' and can look great in basic all over puppy type clips. Eta for something a little more robust there is the Portie. I have met some with weak nerve, but many with awesome temps. And they have a choice of wavy or curly coat, both of which can be kept in basic non floofy haircuts.

Border Terrier.

I don't particularly like it but I work all day with it! I even have a friend in Canada who called her salon FurBabies. It appeals to the audience we are after, so good for business. Show me a written breed standard that refers to fur and I might come on board. Same with snout. Is their a breed standard that refers to a dogs muzzle or nose as a snout?

I haven't had to board dogs for many years but a lot of my clients use Pampered Pets Resort at Montacute.

LINK TO STORY A PIT bull terrier that mauled to death an 11-month-old girl in northern England was a dangerous dog banned under UK law. Ava-Jayne Marie Corless was asleep in bed at a house in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Monday when she was savaged by the animal. Police and ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate her but she was pronounced dead at Royal Blackburn Hospital a short time later. The girl's mother, Chloe King, 20, and her partner, Lee Wright, 26, are being questioned on suspicion of manslaughter. Local police said the dog, which was destroyed after the attack, had been identified by experts as a pit bull terrier-type dog which people are prohibited from owning under Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. Ava-Jayne's father paid tribute to his daughter. "She was the most beautiful and adorable little girl, she was just the best. She was my whole world. Her mum and I aren't together any more, but I saw Ava-Jayne all the time," Dean Corless told the Daily Mirror tabloid. "I will miss her every single day. I just don't know what to do now. It is so tragic. I have my family around me, but we are all devastated." The girl's grandmother, Bernadette Corless, added: "It just can't believe it, it's such a shock. She was so young, it is so unfair for a baby to be taken away. She was just beautiful, like a china doll. She was a lively baby and was always happy." Locals claim to have made previous complaints about the large dog's behaviour to police. It was reported that the RSPCA had been called to the house after claims that a neighbour's cat had been killed, but the charity concluded it was an accident. King and Wright were said to be downstairs when the attack took place while Ava-Jayne was in a front bedroom. The couple were initially arrested on suspicion of child neglect before they were re-arrested on the more serious offence of manslaughter.

I just looked and I don't think the CC range has one as fine as the 76, which is 22 teeth to the inch. Even my CC face comb that i use in the bath to pick of eye boogers and pooberries isnt that fine. I'd stick with what you know and love!
-
I love sprats combs and use them as a professional groomer. I get them from the uk as I haven't found them over here either. I don't mind paying they are worth it! I'd also be interested to know if they are available here at a reasonable price. My next choice brand wise would be Chris Christensen and then the original Greyhound brand. Ooh, thanks for the link!

Cairn Terrier. Or perhaps a Border Terrier.

LINK A WOMAN who owned 20 cats was brutally killed after two of her neighbour’s dogs attacked outside her home. The battered body of Klonda Richey was found naked in the snow outside her house in Dayton, Ohio. Police believe she was mauled to death by a pair of male mixed breed Bullmastiffs who tore off her coat in the attack. According to the Dayton Daily News , Richey, 57, had complained several times to authorities about the animals but no action had been taken. Owners... Andrew Nason and Julie Custer are being held by police. Police attending the scene shot dead the dogs after they tried to charge them. The Bullmastiffs’ owners, Andrew Nason, 28, and Julie Custer, 23, who lived next-door to Richey, have been arrested and are being held on a charge of reckless homicide. The paper reported that Richey was a keen cat lover and an active Republican party volunteer. “It’s so ironic that this devout animal lover would be killed by animals in such a brutal aggressive way,” Ann Stevens, who worked with Richey for 16 years at the Montgomery County Job & Family Services Administration Services Division, told the paper. Dog pic... Julie Custer posted this photo of a dog on her Facebook page in 2012 with the caption ‘My right hand man!’

I have a short coat Chihuahua client that I shave reverse 7# every 4 to 6 weeks. He looks great and is a very much loved house pet. Who am i to judge how the owners want to care for their dog, if what I do doesnt harm the dog, and in fact makes him much more part of the family in this particular case due to good hygiene and reduced shedding. After 28 years of grooming I shaved my first Labrador (cross, but almost a Lab!) last week! I did a reverse 4# so the dog still had a bit of cover. shaved Lab x before /after shaved SC Chihuahua
