  1. Hi Phil Looking at the DOL listings it does seem as if there is a drought of young Fox Terriers in Vic just now. I would suggest contacting breeders listed in Vic as they may have litters about to be born, planned, or know of available dogs from other breeders. Here are links to breedr listings for Fox Terrier Smooth, Fox Terrier Wire and I have included the Tenterfield Terrier as well in case you were thinking of a 'mini foxy' Smooth Wire Tenterfield
  2. There was a Blue Tic Coonhound in SA probably 15 years ago now. Not sure what happened with him. There was one here in the ACT too. I know of two people considering bringing the Black and Tan Coonhound in. They are already in NZ. The Redbones look great - big dog with a big voice for the 'burbs though Haha yes! One day at a show years ago in SA I certainly heard the Blue Tick before I saw it! I spent the night with a family interstate one quite a few years back that had a Blue Tick Coonhound and an Otterhound. I fell for the Otterhound <3 I don't believe there are any in Oz now?
  3. I would just be aware of how potentially scary it could be for puppy trapped in there while people bend down and look in etc, without a reassuring hand present like there would be if you were holding the puppy. As long as you didn't use it as a baby sitter so to speak, it could be quite useful.
  4. I love and admire pure bred pedigree dogs. I have owned a few, and may again. Just now though, I have a pure mongrel. I'd love to see yours too! Here is my Grufydd
  5. The Silken Windhound is a small Borzoi type dog yes? They are very pretty.
  6. There is the Norwegian Lundehund or Puffin Dog which interests me but I believe they have a health issue? something to do with digestion maybe?
  7. you're right the poor dog in an abomination of canine design. Yeah he may have had a nice temperament but it's no excuse to perpetuate disasters like this. Yes I know this particular dog may have been a 'freak of nature' but it seems to be whenever something 'unusual' (read defective) crops up in a pet species it seems people want to perpetuate it no matter how detrimental it is to the animal.
  8. Zeus dies age 5 THE world’s largest dog, a Great Dane named Zeus, has died, his owners say. The five-year-old, donkey-sized dog stood 112cm at the shoulder. His owner, Kevin Doorlag of Otsego, Michigan, told the Kalamazoo Gazette that the beloved family pet died last week. Zeus had been declared the world’s tallest dog in the 2012 edition of the Guiness World’s Records. He topped 220cm when standing on his hind legs. Doorlag family photos showed Zeus dwarfing a sofa that he sat on, and drinking from the running kitchen tap without having to stretch or strain. Doorlag described Zeus as a “wonderful dog” who loved to sit on his family members’ laps, oblivious to his own size and 70kg weight. Zeus’s daily ration was up to 13kg of dog food. Guinness World Records picture editor Michael Whitty, who had met Zeus, said the dog was “the gentlest giant you could ever wish to meet.” “He will be greatly missed by his lovely owners and will live on in Guinness World Records history as the tallest dog we ever measured,” he said. Great Danes and other giant breeds tend to have short lives, which veterinarians attribute to the strain that their huge bodies put on the heart and other organs. Zeus would have been 6 in November.
  9. No you really shouldn't have to use a plastic guard. On the Wahl Super Trimmer the adjustable blade has 5 length setting built in. The blade itself has plastic parts preventing heat transfer to the blade surface. You can run it with just the blade on it for 45 mins and the blade should be as cold as when you switched it on. When I clip hairless I use just the blade on the shortest setting and never use the plastic guard combs for this job.
  10. What a cutiepatootie ! If you are using trimmers the blade should not heat up as they have plastic components that do not allow heat transfer like regular clipper blades. I don't know about the beard trimmers you have so check the blade surface after they have been running a few minutes to make sure there is no heat. the Wahl trimmers you have purchased should not conduct heat to the blade AT ALL. Very safe and completely eliminate true blade burn. The very small trimmers have extremely short blade cut so it *may* be so short as to cause irritation. Again, even the shortest setting on the adjustable blade on the Wahl trimmers should not cause irritation, although it may not cut quite as close as the beard trimmers. Also be careful how much you manhandle the skin while clipping. A lot of hand movement over the skin can enhance irritation on some dogs. Keep the skin taught and try not to go over and over the same spot. also be careful of the angle of the blade to the skin. Try to keep the blade flat to the skin and not kicked up at an angle to the skin. Some dogs are just more prone to irritation, so as long as it settles don't worry too much.
  11. Wow such great pictures. Leanne is that the wetlands at MB? I live in Mannum on Purnong Rd right opposite the river and the Gass Bird Reserve. I love to sit and watch the birds. I recently got what I thought were some good bird shots with myliitle point n shoot but you all put mine to shame so I think I willleave them off !
  12. another vebo fan here. I use both their wire crates and plastic carriers.
  13. I have to say I prefer male dogs as pets, although I have owned 1 noticeable exception. Rita my SC Chi many years ago was a doll. The best male dog I have ever owned by a stand out mile was Sonny my Chow Chow, followed closely by the Bouvier boy I had as a teenager. I think I will always have boys in the future.
  14. That light-bulb was freaky too Yeah! So honey, is the dog acting a bit brighter, or is it just my imagination?
  15. What breed is your puppy? Remember that your puppy's name is not a punishment word. Never use it when you are cranky with the puppy. And like someone else said, if you want your puppy to come to you every time you need to be the most exciting thing in it's world at that moment in time.
  16. Done properly by an experienced groomer hand stripping should not hurt at all. Unfortunately if your dogs coat has been softened by clipping, it may take a bit of extra time/ work to get the hard coat back into condition with hand stripping. A groomer well versed in this technique will be able to assess your dog properly and tell you what can be done. I love hand stripping. Being able to groom an entire dog with just my fingers is really neat!
  17. Haha as you can see poor little Pepper has lost a canine :p
  18. $900 I didn't think cresties even had that many teeth!!
  19. It sounds like you need a groomer that offers hand stripping. That is the correct way to groom a broken or wire coat. Depending on your dogs tolerance and coat texture will determine what can be done. Not that many groomers do hand stripping so make sure to ask specifically if they offer that service.
  20. Did you end up with any clippers/trimmers CC?? Here is a bit of hairless eye candy for you....... Angus & Pepper visited the salon today. Pepper is hilarious using every scrap of hair he has to rock a mohawk! Angus Pepper (before!) After....
